This may have been discussed before, but I was wondering what kind of pain reliver do most people use for everyday ordinary aches and pains. I was using tylenol and have heard from many people that they use motrin.

Just curious.

I visited a non-surgical orthopedic surgeon recently and she explained to me that Motrin type products are better for muscle aches and pains (and back problems), while Tylenol is good for headaches but not muscle aches and pains.

So, if I have a headache I use Tylenol. If my back hurts, I use Motrin.

I agree. We use Tylenol for headaches and we keep generic Ibuprofin 200mg for pain. I will take two Ibuprofin once in awhile for neck or back pain. But, I have a prescription for Ibuprofin 800mg that I use once in a great while when my back is really, really bad.

I rotate what I take but take Aleve most. If that isn't enough I go to the script stuff. ALso us Tylenol Arthritis or Motrin

Like others said, each does different things based on the active ingredient. We keep a bottle of each around so we're ready.

I hurt my back last week and I've been taking Advil every day since.

Advil and Motrin are both ibuprofen. That is what we use. Store brand though.

Another vote for Aleve.(store brand at least) It works for pain and inflammation and lasts longer than ibuprofen.

Ibuprofen is ok to take with alcohol - that's the only difference I know

I take only tylenol since I had an anaphylactic reaction to Advil last summer. Holy cow! :earseek: I never want to do that again. But i sure do miss my Advil. There's nothing better for a migraine or low back pain.

Bayer Extra Strength for everything! It woks great!

Tylenol does nothing for me. Motrin and Advil are basically the same thing, but I mainly take Advil. I absolutely notice the difference between the store brand and Advil too. The store brand is not as effective for me. Aleve never does anything for me either.

If I have a bad headache though, nothing comes close to aspirin. I take it rarely though because while I'm not allergic to it (mom and brother are) I usually always get sick from it. If I have a thumper though and it's the difference between feeling sick in the stomach or a severe headache, I'll take being sick any day of the week. I've only ever had maybe 3 headaches that have been that bad though. One was so bad I could hardly get myself to bed.

I can't take Ibuprofen because I'll get an anaphylactic reaction (my lips and tongue swell.) Same for NSAIDS, I can't take them!

So it's Tylenol for me!

Just an FYI; drinking alcohol while taking Ibuprofen increases the risk of stomach irritation and bleeding. Everything carries risks, unfortunately!

I use Tylenol, because that is the only one my doctor said won't interfere with my Asthma.
