Paid or unpaid?

When I got into work this morning, there was an invitation from my boss to the Christmas party. The party will be on a Thursday and in the office from noon-3pm. I work from 11-5 every day, so obviously I will be here, but she sent out the invitations because most of the other people here are agents, and are in and out all day long.

So my question is, since she gave me this invitation (knowing that I will be here no matter what), do you think I will be paid for the 3 hours that we are "not working" or not? Truthfully, I will probably have a small bite of whatever is brought, and stay in my office the rest of the time anyway. Its not a big space here, and if there are 30 people, it will be rather stuffy for me!

I would assume paid - although I'm sure there are some employers who would not..

I'd say paid. Anytime I have worked anywhere that had an on-site party during normal business hours we were paid.

Paid. I doubt your Boss would schedule a Christmas party during work and then not pay you. Boss would have scheduled the party after hours if that was the case.

Our company whether its on site or not, does not pay for the holiday party.

Yup

But you are not required to attend and you can leave but you can not work.

My office's Christmas party is from 12 to 2 on a work day, unpaid. Now, the party itself only lasts about 1 hour. We exchange our secret Santa gifts, eat a delicious meal provided by the office, get our Christmas bonuses:cool1:. After that, you can either clock back in and work, or, as most do, work on Christmas shopping. Our office is near the Prime Outlets, the mall, and various other places to shop.

We really lose no pay over it because we have a 1 hour unpaid lunch everyday anyway!!! It's our choice of what to do with our extra 1 hour after the actual party is over. Work, or shop!!!

If we held our party during the work day, we were always paid. If it was held offsite during non-work hours, we were not paid.

I would think paid but based on other people's experiences, I'm not so sure.

Is there anyway you can tactfully ask or ask a veteran worker there?

DBF's company party is off site, after work hours and is not paid, spouses/so's are allowed. My company party is off site, during work hours and IS paid, no spouses/so's are allowed.

Whenever we have had a party during work we are paid for it (and for our Christmas party we are allowed to leave early that day-paid). BUT we don't get any type of Christmas bonus at all so that IS our bonus so to speak.

If it's in the office during work time I would assume paid unless told otherwise. Is your office still officially open?

Paid, consider it a christmas bonus!:goodvibes
