Packed & Moved..Disboutiquers Part 6 Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes we sew

Not open for further replies.
I know, I read about it a couple of weeks ago, right after we got home from the pool. Scary!

For the big give, does it have to be clothes? I can do clothes, but right now I'm mainly doing hair pretties. LOL BTW hope you guys don't mind my "butting" in. ;)

Here's my latest hair pretty. It's my first try at it, so it's no perfect, but when I do my next one, I'm going to put a minnie mouse resin in the middle.

bow009.jpg

Please, butt away :rotfl2: Hair pretties would be good! Some of us around here are hair pretty challenged (ahem--me). Yours looks great, but is that your DD? Her hair is GORGEOUS!

Sadly as little girls get older Saying I won't be your friend etc is a common thing. I don't like it and i like to think my DD8 wouldn't do that but who knows.

I wouldn't feel guilty about not making it BUt if the little girls bday is coming up then maybe as her bday gift I would but not a just because outfit.

Thanks. I know little girls say things like that but I couldn't believe that she wouldn't take responsibility when I called her on it. When I was a kid I would never speak to an adult that way.

I know Megan is a little immature for her age and I probably encourage it because she's the baby. Making her a birthday outfit is a nice compromise: I did that last year too.

Geesh! What a kid! It sounds like unthoughtfulness runs in the family! I wouldn't make her anything under any circumstances!

I'm sorry you've been down. But, Jacob sure made Arminda's day yesterday! ;) :thumbsup2

LOL! Jacob only asks me 20 times a day if Arminda has written him back yet. Not that he's impatient or anything!

That is gorgeous! I have some of that fabric somewhere I think--I will try a peasant nightgown from it. :)

You're not petty. Sewing takes a lot of time and effort, and it's not like handing a kid a juice box out of the fridge or something... I would just "forget" ;) that the conversation ever happened! My pat response is "oh, I only have time to sew for my kids!"

Thanks! That's a great line, I'll have to remember it!

Steph I love the nightgown and would not make one for the neighbor either! I love the Marie Big Give too.....really cute!

Thank you!

We have been twice in January- Most days we could wear shorts during the day, but needed sweatshirts and pants at night. Of course I live in MN so unless it gets to about 35 degrees I wouldn't need "winter" attire. We did have one cold day and I saw some interesting outwear- Blaze orange and camoflage hunting clothes- And this was at AK :confused3 :rotfl:
I would do shorts/pants and appliqued tees. Maybe disney up a couple of those hanes plain zip up sweatshirts. Those are on sale/clearance at walmart all the time. Maybe a couple bowling shirts. Are they doing any of the character meals??

STEPH- Sorry you're feeling down. I have to say I've been a little blue too. I didn't even get a card from dh for my Birthday he was being kinda jerkish the whole weekend :worried:  He didn't even help the kids make me a card. And my sister didn't even call me either. :sad1:

1) I usually make short sleeves and bring long sleeved tops to wear underneath. The weather is certainly unpredictable.

2) That is crazy! One time they all forgot my birthday too and I pouted for a while. Those DH's don't know how lucky they have it.

Steph, I hate mean kids. I wouldn't think anything of it. I'm sure she's forgotten about it. Really that is not your responsibility. Nor should it be. The divine miss M is gorgeous as usual.

Thanks! Megan has a memory like an elephant, but I am sure she doesn't remember the altercation at all. Except when she asks for a playdate with this girl and I tell her no! Did you get any bites on the website yet? Are you making to order or did you make a bunch to have on hand?

I love the nightgown and I would not make one for the little girl. I feel the same way as you do. If I give someone something and they don't say thank you or show some form of appreciation than I will refuse to sew for them again. I love sewing for Jenna's friends because they always give me hugs and tell me how pretty they think everything is. Even their mother tells me how much she appreciates what I make them. Now my aunt I won't sew for her granddaughter, because she sent something that I made her back to me and told me a bunch of things that I needed to change about it. Hummph!!! See if I do.

Outrageous! I cannot believe she sent it back and I don't blame you a bit for not making the changes. Honestly! I don't think people realize how long it takes to make something (at least for me anyway). My husband, however, knows that it takes forever to make something, lol!

Love the nightgown. I probably wouldn't make one for the little girl either! I don't understand why people find it so hard to say thank you for things!

Thank you!

Awww Steph, how sad. I hate it when kids are mean to other kids. Poor Megan. I would NOT feel quilty about not making this girl a nightgown. Your talents are TOO GREAT to be wasted on someone who does not appreciate all the love and effort that went into it.

And I am sorry you have been feeling down lately.....you have LOTS of friends here who love ya!!! Are you excited about your upcoming trip to PA?

:confused3 Hey did I miss something? LOL.

1) Aw, thanks.

2) Ok, I am not exactly looking forward to this trip which is part of my bad attitude. We spend a week in an one-bedroom cottage on the Allegheny River in the middle of nowhere. And this is spent with my in-laws (parents, sister and her boyfriend), whom I very much love, but would love more in my own room with a shower that was higher than my shoulder blades. That is my petty rant of the evening.

That is beautiful! I am so jealous of those who can make cute hair bows.

Wow that is scarey. I am going to be so afraid for Jenna to go swimming.

Ugh, I am going to have to go back and read it now, I really don't want to. I just had a conversation with Jacob about a game that involves strangling yourself with a belt until you get high. An eleven year old died from playing it and it was in the paper today. I just wish they could stay little and protected by us. :(

I love the expanded big gift idea. I think most of us love disney clothes the most so maybe make a wish is the best way to go.

bow009.jpg

THAT is your FIRST BOW? WOW! You're good! That is a beautiful bow.

I think doing some gives for other groups is a great idea too! I know for things like pillowcases, I ALWAYS have scraps of fabric that would be great for that type of thing. It would also be good to have some projects that every skill level can attain, and still be able to be involved with helping others.

It may be good to have different people heading up different sections so that it's not overwhelming for any one person.

How do I always end up so blasted far behind? Even now that I have more time lol. I had a stomach flu the last few days first time I have been sick in years but I did it BIG lol.

First thank you all for the sweet thoughts. I greatly appreciate teh prayers. We feel like God led us to fostering for 3 reasons and all 3 are well worth all the pain and heartache we went through because of it. The cool thing is I can now name all three reasons! First Shelby and Halie (my first little blond haired model) we helped fight for them go to thier Grandparents. I feel honored to have taken care of them for the short time we were with them. Then there is Princess April. Who we saved her life twice and if I told you the stories of how many people she has profoundly affected in her short little life you would weep. She is a beautiful child who without a doubt is meant for great things.

I will freely admit we were selfish and wanted something to take with us to hold forever from our time but honestly now that I have stepped back I see that we took three things. I am a VERY blessed foster parent. Most never see thier children again. I have 3 that I can see anytime I want, and can continue to love them and be a part of thier lives. I think that God still has a plan for us to be parents more than just twice and I fully believe that we will be led down the path that we need to be led. I am just unfortunately an impatient person and God is apparently working on that with me. :rotfl:

For those of you that have contemplated becomign foster parents. It is not for the faint of heart. It is a long journey and while the children are well worth it you have to be completely devouted to that because the system is horrible. :(

Now that I have written a book I will tell you all something you all probably know! I wanted to find some of those cardboard thigns that they put fabric on to put all my fabric on my shelves with. Well I found some on :wizard: for a pretty high price when you factor in shipping. I thought ofr a while and decided to call Hobby Lobby and Hancocks to see if I could order some from them! They throw the blasted things away! She told me to come get all I wanted! I got a ton tonight and I thought I without a doubt had enough to put up all my fabric. It is looking like not so much now. :rolleyes1 I will have to make another trip to the fabric store in a few days ... you know I am really dissapointed. DH just kind of looked at me when he saw all the fabric though. I don't think he knew how much I had as long as it was all shoved in the bottom of my hall closet. :rotfl:

th_IMG_0579.jpg

Tinkerbelle nightgown for Megan. The fabric is shiny on one side and soft on the inside. She said is a princess gown and she loves it.

th_IMG_0577.jpg

I love love love that nightgown! My mother made one for me when I was little out of holly hobby fabric that I hav ein my cedar chest and it reminds me so much of that! I adore the marie outfit! So so sweet!
BIG GIVE OUTFIT

So here is my BIG GIVE outfit I have been working on. It didn't turn out exactly as I planned but I hope it doesn't look too bad. :confused3 I used CarlaC's easy-fit pants pattern and made the capris. (They really are supposed to be capris...LOL... my little one is just younger and (hopefully) shorter than Isabelle. Hahaha. Then I was inspired to paint princesses all over them. I had to paint Snow White twice because the first shirt I used was way too big!!!! I guess I bought a boy's tshirt instead of a girls and it was way too long. This shirt looks better. Oh and then I got some white hightops and painted them to match. I have to admit though, painting princess faces on the side of shoes was NOT as easy as I had hoped for either. Hahahaha. Anyway....what do you guys think????

Here is my little one modeling it:

th_1PrincessFront.jpg

Beth that is BEAUTIFUL! So when I have a wee one you know who I am going to be calling right! The model is pretty cute too. :goodvibes She is just growing like a little weed!

Lookee what I just bought! I think it's from the UK. Bambi was my mom's favorite Disney movie :lovestruc

th_bambifabric-1.jpg
Cute cute fabric!

OK - for the NEXT ROUND of the BIG GIVE. I know that someone mentioned something about making customs for foster children. I have a question about that. Are foster children allowed to go on vacations (across state lines) with their foster families? I know that probably sounds like a dumb question, but for some reason, I thought they couldn't?

It may have been mentioned - I wonder about setting up some sort of thing for children that are going to Disney with Make A Wish. I wonder if there is a way to set up a thread here where people who are in that situation could "sign in" and make requests? I guess the biggest difficulty would be in the verification that whoever is requesting has actually been granted a trip with Make A Wish.

Anyway, just a few thoughts.

I think it has already been answered but I will say that in Texas you can go across state lines with a judges order. They rarely say no from what I understand.

For the BIG GIVE for Foster children. Why not just make them clothes. What I'm trying to say is that these children have been through alot in their short lives and I'm sure any sort of kindness would be appreciated. I'm sure that any size clothes would be appreciated by these children. I think just receiving a random gift from someone might help to restore their faith in adults. Just a thought.

I do agree that any clothes will be appreciated. I have a theory that all girls are princess' and everyone should have a chance to be one just once. I have yet to have a little girl in my home that didn't twirl in a twirly skirt and giggle. :goodvibes

Here's another dress I made today.

th_2KuteKidzwatermelon2.jpg
Oh that is really sweet. Did you mention what pattern you are using if you are using one? That looks like something I might be able to master now lol.

I read about this last week on the internet but totally forgot to put it here for everyone to see (if you haven't seen or heard about it yet). It is about dry drowning. A 10 yr. old boy in SC died a week or so ago after he had been out of the pool for over an hour and they said he had drown. There is an article and a video as well. It is something that everyone should be aware of -- I had never heard of it before!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24982210/

DH was telling me about this AS we were swimming! Sure freaked me out. I had never heard of it either and it was plastered allover the news media then.

I know, I read about it a couple of weeks ago, right after we got home from the pool. Scary!

For the big give, does it have to be clothes? I can do clothes, but right now I'm mainly doing hair pretties. LOL BTW hope you guys don't mind my "butting" in. ;)

What a head of hair! Gorgeous! the hair and the bow! Great first try!

Absolutely :thumbsup2

I know for certain that holiday clothes or halloween outfits would be really appreciated by most. I can't tell you how many children I have on my caseload who go without something as simple as a halloween costume.

I have always wondered this, can you easily donate to foster kids some how? Each year we buy about $1000 worth of toys to donate and we have always wanted them to go to foster kids or the like vs just the salvation army or toys for tots. Can you donate clothes? Thanks for any help/answers.

OK - for the NEXT ROUND of the BIG GIVE. I know that someone mentioned something about making customs for foster children. I have a question about that. Anyway, just a few thoughts.

I am in for whatever is decided, if we can just please post a BIG message so I don't miss it. I gotta admit I don't read it all all the time! I try though. Even if the foster kids couldn't wear the customs at disney I am sure they would love owning them.

Of the couple of foster parents I personally know, I know that it took alot of effort on the foster parents part to get permission for the kids to leave the state, so much to the point that they just chose not often to leave. The hassle was horrendous. Not sure if the type of visitation the birth parents have matters at all in a situation like this. These people were adopting both the little girls and up until the day of the final adoption they couldn't even cut their hair. It was up to the mother how their hair was and how/when she got it cut. Thank goodness now everything is finalized, such beautiful little girls!

Oh that is really sweet. Did you mention what pattern you are using if you are using one? That looks like something I might be able to master now lol.

I am not using a pattern, just doing the same as a pillowcase dress, just not cutting for the arms.

Here is what I have been up to:

th_IMG_0579.jpg

Here is the outfit for the Big Give. I just need to add a ruffle on the bottom of the peasant top. I tried the rolled hem on the bottom of the skirt and I am not sure if I did it right. And the ties in the back seem too short so I might take them out and try a few rows of elastic thread instead. So I guess it's really not done yet, lol!

The nightgown is so cute! LOVE the BIG GIVE outfit!!!!!!

Adorable!

I have a friend that is taking her DS3 (will be 4 in Dec.) on his first trip to Disney World Jan. 23 and she wants me to make him some clothes for it. I have never been to Disney at this time of year and I'm wondering how he would need to dress? And, I am also looking for some ideas on what to make him, got any?
I've been to Disney 3 times in Dec & twice in Jan and the weather really can be anything from near 90 to lows in the 30's. I would go with items that could be layered-t's or bowling shirts that could go over turtlenecks.

I totally do NOT have time to post except WOW princesss-o-rama!!!! That is tooo fabulous!!!

and now... the big news. T-BERI TOG'S HAS LAUNCHED!!!!

you can see my first outfit listed (and a very cute pic of Little may I add) at www.whoababyboutique.com

WOO HOO!!! I DID IT!!!
:woohoo:

No, she never did. I don't think she even remembers it because I would have been mortified if my kid asked someone to make them something when I hadn't acknowledged the previous stuff. But this kid is pretty nervy. One time she told Megan if she didn't do what she said she wouldn't be her friend anymore. Megan locked herself into her room crying. The little girl told me I needed to make her come out and play with her. When I tried to explain that Megan's feelings were hurt she said (and I will never forget this as long as I live), well, I don't know her that well, so how would I know what would hurt her feelings? That was the last time she was invited to our house for a playdate.
That's a pretty sophisticated and aggressive response from a young child. I don't think I could come back with something like that. That's pretty scary. I wouldn't feel bad about not making something for her.

Sorry you're feeling down. I have to say I've been a little blue too. I didn't even get a card from dh for my Birthday he was being kinda jerkish the whole weekend :worried:  He didn't even help the kids make me a card. And my sister didn't even call me either. :sad1:
 My DH has done that to me many times. Now I go to Disney on my birthday.

Also keep your fingers crossed DH mentioned going Back to WDW in Feb 09! We are already going in Nov 08! Not sure it is a good idea to take the kids out of school again for a week in the same school yr but at least he is thinking about it! I really want to go for Star Wars weekends next yr but DH says it is too nice in IL and we should go when it is icky here. Which is a very good point. so we will see!
:wizard: With DVC you'll get a nice discount on APs.:thumbsup2

Cute!

Beth, on your painted princesses what did you use to fuse them onto the pants? This is the part that would scare me!

:rotfl: It kinda scared me too....I can't even really tell you as it was something I had here at home. But it is the kind that irons on both sides so I had to cut it out exactly in the shape of the princesses and then iron on together. kwim? I'm sorry I don't know the exact name...the little paper thing I had from it when I bought it was missing.

mousetripper
WOW, DID YOU PAINT FREE-HAND THE PRINCESSES OR FROM A PATTERN?
awsome job
Tahnk you. I painted them free-hand. I have always loved drawing. When I was younger I always wanted to grow up and become a Disney animator. I still think that would be the ultimate job...! I did illustrate a children's book that my Mom wrote. We are now in the process of self-publishing it. It was a lot of fun!

WOW, I thought maybe this trip had something to do with it. Now let me get this straight....are you really saying that the 4 of you guys stay with 4 more relatives in a ONE BEDROOM cottage ALL TOGETHER????? Okay, that is just too close for comfort. I need more space than that too. I am totally feeling your pain....

Here's another dress I made today.

Oh Callie....I am so keeping you guys in my thoughts and prayers. Like you said, we both know fostering and fostering to adopt is not for the faint of heart BUT when it works out it is absolutely a BEAUTIFUL thing. You are so very lucky to have those 3 children in your hearts and they are very lucky to have you in theirs. That is wonderful how you are able to see them anytime you want.

Thank you for the sweet comment on my BIG GIVE outfit and my little one. She is getting big so fast....where does the time go?? Yes, when you get your wee little one...give me a hollar. Hahaha!!!

For the Big Give..... I think the best way to make sure people are actually legit is to work hand in hand with a local Ronald McDonald House. You don't need names- just a little kid and their size, and they might be willing to put you in touch with someone that needs it. It's worth a try to speak to someone there anyway. They are really wonderful and would love the offer I'm sure. If they can't do anything for us- I'll bet they would have an idea of who to contact.

Also- can't someone just contact their local MAW Foundation? I'll bet they'd respond in a positive way as well.

Sorry if this has already been brought up- I skim sometimes too- but caught Revrob's comment and wanted to make sure you all knew that Ronald McDonald house folks are really easy to work with!

PLEASE post big when you know the next project- it'd give me the chance to actually make something!

Hi everyone! !

Here is another pic that I love...I was a little lazy for this day...just made shorts...but I love the orange shirts!

Oh, what a sweetie! My dd4 said he is sooo cute and he must have a cute, pretty cradle. When she saw the pic she said...awwwww. She wants a baby brother, but daddy says no...

Here is a couple of dresses, still have to add the straps.

Hi Everyone,

Here is Abby in the watermelon outfit I made her. I used some peoples suggestion about 1 button on the shoulder, and found watermelon buttons to use there!!

I used the 4/5 size for her - do you think i should have bumped her up a size for the round neck part? does it not cover the shoulders enough???? thoughts??? thanks!!

Such a cute outfit! I love the whole watermelon thing!

OK I can only skim again today but awesome outfits as always! Mousetriper I am just blown away that you painted the princesses, they look incredible :cool1:
I got my degree results a couple of days ago, and I passed!   I feel so relieved to be done with education :)
I'll have some pictures of my own to post at the weekend (hopefully) but in the meantime, I thought i'd share my sister's final project from the art course she's been doing. She got a distinction (highest mark you can get) :goodvibes It's fairytale themed and Alice in Wonderland features heavily!

You are SOO not being a pain about it! I wasn't sure if you saw my response. A lot of times people skip over my obnoxious multi-quotes and miss my responses.

My JoAnn had an unbranded ruffler foot. All you need to know is what kind of shank you have on your machine- low, high, or slant shank. Then, you need to find a ruffler that coordinates with the type of shank, no matter the brand.

These women are wonderful! I've learned a LOT from them in the last year, too!

Thanks! I just know I have so many questions and to some one experienced I bet they could be come a pain and i didn't want to be that.

I will head to Joanns maybe this weekend. I think I have a coupon.

I love that idea! I'm sure many Make-A-Wish kids might have some special clothing needs as well such as to acommodate things like a colostomy bag etc. Not a medical expert, but I'm sure there are needs we could help with. Maybe there could be one person to serve as a verifying party and someone could send them some sort of proof???

Not sure I am to the point i want or can give an outfit to a child in need it may scare them but i wanted to tell you al how simply wonderful it is you guys do this! What about contacting StJude's? Or some other children's hospital? I doubt they would be going to WDW BUT maybe bringing a little Disney to them in a hospital might be nice.

I can answer the question about the colostomy bag. DH had one for 10 weeks when he 1st had his colon removed. If that comes up just make sure the material is soft and you use elastic for pants or if it is a girl I would say dresses;) Lived that one 1st hand!

Here is the top that I asked the question about a page or two back.

The gathers are not what I thought they would be but it is a sweet top.

I plan on making shorts to go with this top and possibly putting a ladybug on one of the legs of the shorts.

This is so sweet! I love the applique you did!

Sorry I have not been on much. Things at our house have not been wonderful. :( The adoption fell through and we have decided we are done with fostering and CPS. We are going to hopefully try IVF or some form of it next year, we are still looking at the specifics of it all including the cost.

 I am so sorry. I know how hard it is. I have been watching my friend wait for adoption news forever.

linnette

you are so talented to make all those things without pattern! that first top is awesome I want one.

I bought a McCall's round neck pattern for my DD(9) and the pattern has a 16" zipper in the back.:scared1: The zipper goes through the round neck, the bodice, and the skirt of the dress and I want to use all different fabrics for those parts. I think I'm going to try to alter the round neck to make it button so I don't have to do a zipper. I'll save that project for a day when I feel brave.

I just finished an outfit with this pattern and I have to say, I did not like the pattern! The zipper was a pain and there were directions missing!

Hello everyone! How I've missed my sewing friends! I am still sick with sinus crud and three things in our house broke and we are leaving for PA Saturday so I have been swamped.

Love all the new things, especially Linnette sewing for herself. Here is what I have been up to:

th_IMG_0579.jpg

Tinkerbelle nightgown for Megan. The fabric is shiny on one side and soft on the inside. She said is a princess gown and she loves it.

I am going to try to finish this today so I can mail it out before we go.

Love that nightgown and your big give outfit is great! Where did you get that material for the nightgown. My dm and I have been trying to find it!

I hope you are feeling better. I have the crud. Trying to avoid it at all costs!

Yes it's the blue one...and it's gorgeous otherwise. I did contact the seller and she said that most likely it was nail polish that she found her dd playing with...egads! She did offer a refund, but I want this petti...LOL. So I'm taking it to a bridal shop tomorrow to see what they recommend. I think the nail polish remover will eat through the nylon, so we will see. The seller was very nice, but I really want to keep it. It's really pretty with the top and fits her perfectly. So we'll see. After I get it cleaned I will post a picture..anywho, I'm off to work...ick.

Since you love this one maybe ask the seller to give you back the money you had to sped on dry cleaning?

I read about this last week on the internet but totally forgot to put it here for everyone to see (if you haven't seen or heard about it yet). It is about dry drowning. A 10 yr. old boy in SC died a week or so ago after he had been out of the pool for over an hour and they said he had drown. There is an article and a video as well. It is something that everyone should be aware of -- I had never heard of it before!

OMG so tragic! I just keep thinking about me growing up on my family boat ad all of the water I would swallow since I was such a fish in the water. OMg I am already terrified of my kids in the water!

That is really pretty! Ok once I master sewing I might have to try to make these!
