Over the river and through the woods to Mickey's house we go: The Remix

Morning everybody! Hope you all had a good weekend!

For all of you who have read my previous reports, you know that nothing ever comes easy for my family nor do we ever have anything happen that's the "norm". :sad2: Go ahead and say it "Uh oh, what's she gonna say happened this time?"

Our carport has a door that leads into our utility room and that's the door that we go in and out of the majority of the time. I have been telling John for a week or so that I smelled something funky but I'd only get a slight whiff of it every once in a while. It wasn't an overwhelming stinky smell but it was a smell nevertheless.

Friday, as I walked out the door, I smelled it again. Remember when John killed the snake that was climbing up our house to get to the bird nest? I thought maybe one of the eggs hadn't hatched or one had died in the nest or something. Friday evening, John got the ladder out and pulled down the nest. There was nothing at all in it. Mama and babies were gone. Well, I guess that wasn't it.

Saturday morning, we woke up and it was raining a bit. John and Lacey got up early and went to the job he was working on to put up some trim and pick up all his tools. I was doing the normal Saturday chores and had walked into the utility room when I could smell "that smell". We have a cabinet that has our breaker box in it and I opened up the door and BAMM the smell hit me square in the face. Oh crap! The wires from the breaker box go directly into the attic. Something must be dead in my attic.

Mama called and I told her that I had tracked down the smell and that I was about to climb into the attic to see what was up. At the same time I was talking to Mama, John and Lacey pulled up. I finished up my call with Mama and told John that I had found the smell but we'd have to track down what was causing it.

First, we looked on top of the breaker box and didn't see anything. So, we climbed into the attic to take a look around. We could smell just a little bit of a smell but nothing at all overwhelming. John started pulling back the insulation and didn't see anything except some "pellets" a/k/a poop. Great! NOT! Something was pooping in my attic and I didn't like it one bit.

I pulled back a piece of insulation and CRAPADELIC! There were eggs! I'm not talking about eggs like in a little fuzzy cocoon type eggs. These eggs looked like itty bitty miniature chicken eggs. The first thought that popped in my mind was snakes. After all, we had just killed one about three or four weeks ago. I had freakin' snake eggs in my attic!

Most of the eggs were already busted open and there were quite a few that were completely shattered. By this time, Lacey had climbed into the attic too. We showed her the eggs and she was just as freaked out as we were.

As we kept pulling back pieces of insulation, we found more and more eggs. This time, they weren't all busted or hatched. There were some that were still "live" or whatever you call it. We got a pieces of wire and busted one open. All we could tell was that it had two eyes. The rest of the body was just goo. We gathered up more and took them downstairs to see if we could tell more about them.

Hunter had gotten up by this time (it was only about 9:30 or 10:00) and he and Lacey started looking at the eggs while John and I continued our investigation. John said he wanted to take the front panel off the breaker box so we could see if some of the eggs had fallen into the breaker box. In the meantime, the kids had cracked open two "dud" eggs that had never hatched. I don't think I have ever heard more beautiful words when they said "I see four legs". I think I heard the angels singing! :lmao: Four legs meant it wasn't a snake!

John got the panel off the breaker box and the smell was horrendous! There were two gecko lizards wrapped around the main breaker. One was completely fried and had dried out. The other was pretty fresh and he was the one that was stinking to high Heaven. We couldn't figure out how to get them out since they were around the main breaker and there was no way to cut the entire breaker box off without calling the electric company.

After some thinking, we got a pair of wooden skewers that I use to grill meat on the grill. He was able to pull the geckos out with the skewers and toss them outside. After that was done, we saw another lizard running around inside the breaker box. We tried to scare him out but couldn't. There's really no way to get anything out of a breaker box without shocking yourself because of all of the wires.

Once we got the two electrocuted lizards off the breaker, we set to work cleaning up all of the eggs and poop in the attic. We pulled out a whole lot of the insulation and we're going to replace that. John used his shop vac to do the cleaning and while we were doing that, three more lizards came scurrying out. We caught one but the other two are wandering around the attic still. Once it was all cleaned, we sprayed insecticide all around the attic. We'll replace the insulation once we get home from vacation.

All in all, it took us about 3 hours to clean up the mess. I am so very glad that it was just lizards and not snakes, rats or other varmits. I can handle lizards. They don't scare me one teeny tiny bit and they do eat the insects that are constantly flying around outside. We think we found the one little place that they were using to get into the attic. John put some caulking in it and we are hoping that will work.

See.....I told ya'll we aren't normal. Who else do you know that had electrocuted lizards in their breaker box and hundreds of lizard eggs in their attic?

Let's move on to more pleasant news. As ya'll know, Hunter turns 14 tomorrow. Since we'll be on the road to Walt Disney World on his birthday, we decided to have a family get together yesterday afternoon. My side of the family came over and the kids swam while I grilled hot dogs. The food was good, the company was good and the gifts were even better. Hunter received $90 in birthday money as well as a new set of stacking cups, some cologne, a movie and a Survivor Wii game.

Tomorrow, John and I will give him the rest of his birthday gift which is a Criss Angel magic card set and some money. Mama also has some money that she is going to give him. He's going to be so happy that he has extra moolah to spend at Walt Disney World.

On the Disney trip front: Guess what!?!?! We have almost all of our stuff packed already!

Hello?

Hello?

Hello?

Have you picked yourselves up off the floor yet? :lmao: I know it's hard to believe since we are pretty much "last day" packers. I only have to pack up our every day toiletries and our overnight bag for the first night we are on the road. Oh and since Hunter is wearing some of the shorts that he's taking on the trip, I have to wash those this evening so I can put them in his suitcase.

I can't believe that we have this much done already. I'm thinking I'll even have time to put all the extra luggage that we didn't use back into the attic before we leave. I don't usually do that until we get back.

I know that my ticker reads crazy to everybody but a few of you. I don't count today because....it's today already and I don't count tomorrow because....it's the day we leave. If I was to count like everybody else, I guess I'd say I have one more day instead of "Congratulations....".

There's absolutely no way I can get the rest of our trip plans posted using pictures and lots of details. So, if I can get my boss to leave me alone for a little while this afternoon, I'm going to at least post our calendar and what we are doing each day.

TTFN!

Ewwww...lizards. But I agree with you - at least it wasn't snakes. *shudder*

Yay! How exciting - tomorrow's the big day!

I hope you have a spectacular time on your vacation! Have a Dole Float for me! :goodvibes

Awwww, I'm sad for the little fried lizards. :( Glad it wasn't snake though.

Happy Birthday Hunter!

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: I'm sorry...it really isn't funny, but the lizard story just has me :rotfl2: You are right, Lisa...only you guys! God, I love your family.

Glad Hunter had a great birthday.

I hope you guys have a safe journey and a most magical vacation.

Oh my goodness...my stomach DROPPED when you said you had snake eggs in your attic! I would MOVE! ;) Thank goodness it was just lizards....not great, but SO much better than snakes! :thumbsup2 What a way to spend a Saturday morning..... :rolleyes1

So....almost packed and ready to go. Sounds good to me! In case I don't get on before you leave and I don't get a chance on Facebook, please wish Hunter a HAPPY 14th for me. Isaiah got up this morning and the first thing he said was "only 6 days till my birthday!" I'm sure Hunter is just as excited!

I know! Why can't we have normal stuff happen to us? We always have weird things.

Hunter was more than pleased with his party. Poor thing, he always has family birthdays because his birthday falls around Memorial Day and all his friends are out of town.

I was scared to death that it was snake eggs. I guess adrenaline is what kept us digging around up there instead of jumping down and calling somebody...........anybody!

I'll pass along the birthday wishes to Hunter. I will be gone when it's Isaiah's birthday so give him a hug for me and tell him Happy Birthday. I'll be texting you when we get to the magic store.

First of all, Happy Birthday to Hunter (well, almost!) :cheer2:

So glad it was lizards and not snakes that had eggs in the attic. I'm not afraid of snakes at all, but I still don't want hundreds of them in my house! :scared1:

Yay for being packed!

Thank you! I am hoping that the drive is extremely "uneventful" as we have had some "eventful" ones in the past....i.e. saw a wreck, road construction, turned the wrong way, etc.

Hunter's going to be excited that he's getting so many birthday wishes.

Fried lizards stink! Literally! :rotfl:

You are so much braver than I would ever be!! I would have waited for Keith to coem home and then I would have sent him into the attic alone!! Atleast it wasn't snake eggs! I can deal with lizards as well but NOT snakes!!! That story was hilarious!!!

Hooray for being almost packed!! We are usually last minute packers also so for me to be done except some last minute things I feel very accomplished!!

Not really sure how I missed this for well over a month, but I am happy to see that you are just about ready to depart for another trip to the world. I hope you love POR. I loved it earlier in the month!

Have a safe trip and an awesome time and I look forward to hearing all about it when you return!

:lmao: so happy I could contribute to your diet! :rotfl2: A stinky lizard story could completely ruin an appetite.

I can handle lizards but I could NOT have handled snakes. They scare the beejeezers out of me! And, these were not the magical Disney lizards either. :lmao:

I'll tell Hunter you said Happy Birthday!

Gross for the lizard eggs, yay for finally finding the source of the smell!

I hope you have a great travel to WDW!!!!

I kept saying that I was so glad to have found the stinky smell. I would have hated to come home from Disney to that smell.

When Lacey said that she saw four legs, I was more than relieved!

Thanks for the birthday wishes and safe travel wishes!

I hope you have a wonderful vacation! Drive Safe!!!

At first we thought the eggs were decorations from a Fall wreath I had in the attic. The wreath had little white berries on it. You can imagine my surprise when I saw they were eggs.

I hope that our drive down is smooooooth sailing!

You are so much braver than I would ever be!! I would have waited for Keith to coem home and then I would have sent him into the attic alone!! Atleast it wasn't snake eggs! I can deal with lizards as well but NOT snakes!!! That story was hilarious!!!

I told John that we have the weirdest things happen to us. Who ever heard of hundreds of lizard eggs an attic? Oh wait.....I HAVE!:sad2:

You've gotten a lot accomplished on the packing front too. :cheer2:

Not really sure how I missed this for well over a month, but I am happy to see that you are just about ready to depart for another trip to the world. I hope you love POR. I loved it earlier in the month!

You sure haven't missed much because I've been too busy to write about the actual trip itself.
We ended up changing our POR reservation to the CBR just so that there would be a chance that we could stay in the same room. The more we thought about it, the more of a hassle a split stay sounded. And, I'm a wimp about changing resorts.
