Are there over the counter medicines available for purchase on the ship in the event someone would need some? (Think pepto, allergy meds, etc) I'm flying so I'm trying to minimize what i'm taking. I'm an OCD planner/mother LOL ;)

Yes there are. I do not have a picture of the selection but they always have some basics in the shops. If you have any allergies/sensitivities/prefer a certain brand I'd bring your own as there are only so many choices. If you've ever been to a Disney Resort and looked at their selections I'd say they are similar with the obvious prominent addition of Bonine for motion sickness.

Yes. I couldn't tell you the details of the spread, but I'm pretty sure the basics were covered. When in doubt, there's the medical facilities. Also, one night DH needed something (tums I think) and we got it from guest services and they charged it to our account.

I got pretty sick on our May Fantasy Western. I took this pic & circled the 2 items that saved my life! Well, in addition to the antibiotics I bought OTC at a Mexican drug store. LOL! I took the pic for trip reporting purposes. I swear I'm not really that crazy!

oh I think that's awesome! this pic says it all. i'm always amazed at what people say they pack for their trips. I know it costs a bit more to purchase on the ship but for the few times I have needed anything its well worth it to us to purchase while aboard. there was a thread recently and the list of what was being brought went on and on.
to each their own and I would never suggest not to bring what your comfortable with but as I say, this was a great reminder of what you can get if you don't pack it or just forget to pack it.
thanks.

We left my deodorant on our bathroom counter the morning of a cruise. The purple Lady Speed Stick in that picture was $2.75 at the time. :rotfl:

Careful though--almost no meds are available for any common stomach problem (looks like only one is milk of magnesia in that pic, and that was my experience as well).

I often get some stomach upset from traveling--richer food than normal, probably drinking less water than I normally do, etc.--and on one cruise I forgot to bring anything like Pepto tablets. Nothing in the shops! I'm guessing this has to do with them not wanting anyone to be "covering up" stomach problems that could be symptoms of norovirus or similar?

Anyhow, I'll never again make the mistake of cruising without my own stash of stomach meds--I'd bring Pepto tabs and immodium just in case!

Hi sweetpee! Did you happen to notice how much the seabands cost? I am considering buying one for my DS1 before our march 2014 cruise but if they are available onboard for a reasonable cost, I may just wait and see if he really needs one. Thanks!

Also, keep in mind that the shops are closed on port days. On our recent B2B we only had 1 sea day so the shops were closed more often than they were open. They were open in the evenings though.

Guest services can help you get OTC meds when the shops are closed though. We needed children's Tylenol for a fever one night- nothing serious but cutting a new tooth, had a fever- any way guest services was able to sell us the gift shop OTC that night and said we could come back if we needed any the next day while docked in Port. I'm pretty sure medicine is the only thing they'll do this for so no luck with sunscreen or something similar while in port.

I am so glad you posted that photo. I was about to pack a medicine cabinet suitcase!

Yeah that's something I noticed. When I fell and went to first aide/the medical center... I didn't have the best experience, so now I am bringing everything/anything just in case something happens. Because you don't know until it happens...I pack pepto, tylenol, aspirin... I even have an ace bandage in case I need to wrap something.

I pack my daily meds, Zyrtec, Imodium, pepto and alieve and sore throat/cold meds. I brought our melatonin last time and we never even took a glance at it

Yes there are. You could also buy some from the medical center (at a vastly inflated price) so if the store doesn't have what you need, try asking there.

I had terrible reflux during our cruise last year on the Magic. I was able to get Zantac/prilosec in the med center. They had to check with the doctor (it was OTC so not sure why) but I was able to buy a small supply. Cost more than Target but I was happy to pay to stop the pain! Will be bringing my own this trip.

As an aside (and as a previous poster noted) the staff certainly weren't the happy helpers that I've always experienced from other ships personnel....

Our son got pretty such with a cold and the selection of kids cold medicines wasn't that great (we may have had to adjust dosage on adult). The selection for adults is decent. You can always buy something at a port if you had to
