On 2/4 we had reservations at CRT for dinner. My 4 yo GD was dressing as Cinderella and begged my 28 yo niece to dress up with her. (My niece had purchased an adult Cinderella outfit from Disney for Halloween.) My niece dressed up and the two of them together were absolutely adorable. When we got to security my niece was told that she would not be permitted to enter the park dressed as Cinderella. We were stunned and embarrassed. We explained that we had ADRs for CRT and wouldn't have time to return to our resort to change. The guard was most unpleasant but did call his supervisor. The supervisor escorted us to the Emporium and nicely but strongly insisted that we purchase an outfit for my niece. We complied and when we went to the cashier we were informed that her new outfit was "on the house". :) So, a bit of Disney magic came our way after all!! I wish that they would let people know that this is not allowed. We would never have agreed to having my niece dress as Cinderella if we had known that it would be a problem.

Wow, very interesting. That is one I haven't heard before. I can somewhat see their point. I'm sure they were worried having an adult dressed as a character and the fear that other guests may think they were the real thing. But I'm glad they picked up the tab on the clothes, especially with the prices of Disney clothing. That is definitely some magic.

Thanks for the tip. I had been considering (but not for long) about dressing up the family my son the prince my dd Cinderella me the fairy godmother my hubbs the king. If I ever take on the thought again I'll make sure that I call in advance.

Actually I can picture the mob scene then the complaint (not from you but from overzelous complaint happy people) of how come Disney didnt keep all those people away from me when I showed up dressed beautifully as CINDERELLA in Disney World. That really stinks though. Another time Disney has to cover their own butt. If your neice had been fat and ugly they probably wouldnt have questioned her 'costume' lol.

The problem was that while no one would confuse you 4 yo GD with the real Cinderella, the same could not be said for your 28 yo niece. Someone should have explained it to you better. Glad it worked out though.

EDIT: Guess I'm a really slow typist.

WDW does not allow adults to dress up as characters - I've seen it in print somewhere, in one of my file folders, maybe in the ticket info? They also do not allow fake weapons like play guns, and full face masks for their Halloween parties either. That was on our MNSSHP brochure.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm that is very interesting... I wonder what the cut age is... honestly when does a little girl dressing up like a princess become too old.... anyone know

That is the policy that adults are not allowed to be in costume except for the Halloween parties so as not to confuse the guests (and I'm sure to cover their behind in cases of trouble). Sorry you found out the hard way.

I doubt there is an age, it's probably just.. as soon as you look like you could be old enough to play Cinderella in the parks, you can't dress up.

Yeah, anybody who doesn't see the logic behind this rule needs to seriously think about it. Let's say my wife dressed up as Cindy and tells some kid "$%# buddy!" Then you think that a Disney employee said it. Or.. you have some weirdo trying to kiss kids or something while dressed up as Aladdin.

Common sense people!

Interesting that you can't bring fake weapons since they sell so many fake guns and swords in the parks.

I don't know their reasinong on this, but I would think it's because they know if it was bought at the park it's a fake (and most likely looks fake). However, there are lots of toy weapons that look real that it's easier to just not let them in rather than the CM's at the gate needing to determine if they are real or not. Mainly I guess it's a security/liability issue.

Wow, I never thought about it before, but I guess it really does make sense.
And it's probably for your safety as well as covering Disney's behind. All the characters have "handlers" that go through the parks with them, I'm sure for crowd control and to protect the character ect...if a bunch of people saw a Cindy just walking through the park unescorted she'd probably be mobbed. Another thing is, if the idea caught on for some reason, I'm sure they wouldn't want tons of non-Disney Princesses walking through the parks.

It would not be safe for Disney to let adults walk around dressed in character. I mean any crazy person can dress up like Cinderella & go into the park. Now you have some crazy person, talking with kids, taking pictures with them, etc. Parents think "well this is a Disney Cast Member & they are safe", so they let their kids go up to "Cindy". When in reality "Cindy" is a sex offender or something.

So no, adults are not allowed to dress in costumer (except for the Halloween Party).
