Our "most excellent" dinner at the Flying Fish

Flying Fish is one of our most favorites. DH and I both say it is the best steak in all of WDW. Although we have not tryed Shula's, because of the kids. It is however, way better than Yachtsman! They are somewhat "crusted" on the outside yet very medium rare and juicy on the inside (what we ordered). I love the snapper too.

We have still never eaten at Flying Fish. What is the Chef's Thunder, please?

You certainly had many good meals this trip!

Thanks for the reviews. We have an ADR in a week and really looking forward to our meal. By the way, how was the dress code? :teeth:

Thanks Uncleromulus for a great review. I'm glad you liked FF on this visit. Strange that it was not very full when you dined there. We dined there for the first time last December and really enjoyed it. :)

We went last spring. We had the peeky toe crab cakes and Polly really liked them. I'm afraid I'm a bit of a crab cake snob and didn't care for the sweet taste. A traditional MD crab cake is the only way to fly. :) We also had the potato encrusted snapper and I would say its the only entree we have ever had at Disney that I was really dissapointed with. Not only did it look a bit unatractive swimming in brown sauce it was on way too many leeks. We will try the FF again and I think the Salmon or anything grilled on that marvelous wood fire would be great.

BCV23:
Chef's Thunder is a special section on the menu where the Chef (i guess) has listed an appetizer, soup, entree and dessert that aren't "on" the menu, as such. It's not a prix fixe thing tho, and each item has an individual price.
I'm not really sure if you happened to like one of the "Thunder" items if you could order it separately from the rest of the Thunder (??). Like the nite we ate there, the Thunder dessert was an assortment of 4 cheeses. Not listed on the dessert section of the menu.

So kind of like specials for the day?

One other question, please. What are cipollini onions?

Thanks for your review! We love FF also. We will be dining there next Monday with our family celebrating our 21st Anniversary. We chose FF over
V&A. Great food! We are hoping to get the counter seats at the kitchen!
Wondering if I can call and request that or if it is first come first seat?

What are cipollini onions? They are small whole onions like pearl onions only a flatter shape like a mini vidalia.

My DF and I are there almost 2 weeks ago, and just loved it! (His review is on the board where you post your WDW food, one of the most recent pages.) I had one of the entrees from the Chef's Thunder, which was a Skate Wing (relative of the sting ray), and it was excellent. He had the salmon which he loved very much. We followed Disney's business casual dress since we are locals and could come straight from our home, but many were dressed in jeans and even shorts. I think next time I go back, I am going to have to try the steak. (And the chocolate souffle is to die for! :cloud9: )

BCV23-kinda like special of the day, but I'm not sure if it actually changes daily.
You got the onion answer--they're just a small accompaniment and probably not worth any special attention. I probably wouldn't have been able to distinguish them from any other kind of onions.

That was a great review uncle R. Mostly because the DW and I have never been to the Flying Fish and one of my favorite reasons for going to WDW is because of the dining. We will definately try FF next time despite what the pirate says.
As a side note, the DW and I love eating at the Coral Reef. Partly because of the menu, but mostly because we love to do dive quest. Going scuba diving while the other diners are watching is a blast.
