~Our June '09 adventure~ I'm home! Started TR 7/2

I LOVE your idea!!!!

My Big Thunder Memory: Well I have several. But it would have to be the first time I went to MK...this was 1980 and BTMRR was finished but not operating yet. And I remember riding the Steam Boat and passed by it. I was like, "wow that's really cool. I can't wait to come back and ride it." Just seeing everything, the track, theming, ect..I was SOOOO excited.

But in 1983, I was back and rode it for the first time---I was so scared b/c I just didn't know what to expect. When it started out going through that dark tunnel..I was REALLY scared. But after it was over..I was like, "Let's ride it again."

So that's my BTMRR memory :)

Ohhh BTM is my favorite! My favorite BTM memory is last May DBF and I and his family went to MK at night for our First night of parks and DBF and I went on BTM and we came out of one of the tunnels and it was kinda sprinkling but not bad, and we look up and WISHES is starting! it was so wonderful and a sparkling memory and a great way to start DBFs first trip to the world <3

I'll never forget it:)

Great idea!!!

I don't have any particularly funny memories about BTMRR, but when we were at Disney in December, we went to the second last MVMCP. We were able to walk right on to BTMRR and ride it several times without having to get off. The CMs were so great, getting us to cheer and yell every time we came in the station, singing, etc. IT was just one of those magical, purely happy moments. The combination of the castle dream lights with the black sky and racing through the mountain... it was just wonderful!

Ooh, I love your attraction of the day idea! I might have to steal it (I have A LONG wait 'til August). Love your memory of BTMRR, I could totally see my Grandpa doing something like that to mess with my Grandma. Too funny!

One of my favorite memories was when one of my nephews was tall enough to finally ride it. His brothers kept teasing him, saying he was too short to ride. When he walked up to check his height he cleared it and started doing a victory dance. The CMs that were there gave him high fives. It was so cute! We had to ride it again and again after that.

Ooo thats hard, I have a few. Thunder Mountain was one of our first ever rides on our very first trip to Disneyland Paris in 1994. My step-brother was absolutely terrified of the ride, and refused to ride anything else. When he eventually did he kept asking how fast it went and how scary it was, even Small World :lmao:. However one of our funniest memories from WDW was actually riding Thunder Mountain. I screamed so loudly the whole way around, and forgot to stop as we came into the station. All the people waiting to ride looked really worried that the ride was going to be really scary, opps :rotfl2:

Excuse me miss but where did you come up with this great idea?! Seriously I can't believe you didn't tell me all day that you had thought of this. Anyways, I don't have any memories of BTM :sad2: I know, thats really sad. Good things I'm going is 2 months, 2 weeks and 1 day and I will come back and I will have a memory to give you! :cheer2:

Anyway, I'm stealing this idea for my PTR...even though I don't have alot of Disney memories...boo hoo. Good thinkin, fool.

Attraction of the Day...
Here's one of my favorite memories about Big Thunder: Back in 2001, we went my whole family-both sets of grandparents and all. From my '08 TR, you got to see Granny and Papa-one of the sets. So we get on Big Thunder, Granny and Papa are sitting in the row in front of me and my mom..the ride starts and Papa being the country boy that he is starts waving his arm up in the air yelling "Yee-ha" and stuff just to make us laugh. Well then Granny notices Papa doing this and starts yelling at him "Put our arm down! Put it down! You're going to hit it on something!" He doesn't quit. Haha. So the whole ride he's doing that, Granny's yelling, and mom and I are hanging onto each other because we're laughing so hard we're crying. Now everytime we go on Big Thunder, I have to do a "Yee-ha" at least once. :rotfl2:

I remember that story! Too funny! I love this idea of yours too :woohoo: So Big Thunder... hm... my brother and I had the Disneyland Fun Sing-A-Long tape growing up and we'd watch it over and over again. That's where the Disney magic really began for me, seeing all the rides and attractions set to music like that. I love that tape! Big Thunder's one of the main rides featured during the "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" song and my brother and I always dreamed of riding it, but on our first trip in 1992 it was closed. So finally getting to all ride it together in 2005 was purely magical. It was SO much fun and we took tons of pictures of ourselves on the ride, and it felt like a 15-year-old dream come true! :goodvibes

The boys got on BTM and just as their train took off the fireworks started and they watched them hooting and hollering the whole time. It was one of their favorite Disney moments ever I think. For them being on BTM with rain and fireworks was just magical! pixiedust:

Oh so cool! :)

Amazingly, DH, DS, and I all fit in one seat together. This worked out well for DS because instead of being tossed against the hard car, he got to rock back and forth between squishy DH and me. He LOVED the ride! And when I say he LOVED the ride. I mean that we ended up riding that ride 10X!!

Aw that's so cute! :)

My aunt kept reassuring him that we were lying about the 60 mph speeds and the 300 ft underground drop (Yes, I was quite the evil teenager back then. :p ), but he didn't seem too convinced.

The ride starts, and we're off! My brother keeps making all of these panicky squeaks throughout the ride as my uncle and I hoot and holler with glee. When the ride is over, we all climb out, and my brother is still kind of weak in the knees. My uncle goes, "So what'd you think?" And my brother's face lights up and he goes, "That was AWESOME! Let's do it again!"

Haha, that's hilarious! :)

But in 1983, I was back and rode it for the first time---I was so scared b/c I just didn't know what to expect. When it started out going through that dark tunnel..I was REALLY scared. But after it was over..I was like, "Let's ride it again."

That's Disney magic at it's best! I love getting CM's that actually have fun on the job! :)

Aw, I"m so happy for him! :)

OMG I spit out my water! :lmao:

HAHA, I'm sorry my dear. I didn't know what you were doing today so I didn't want to text you if you were in class. I need to know your schedule the night before! That's okay you don't have any memories yet...because I know you'll be making them in April...and hopefully with ME next year! And your stealing this idea? That's fine lol...just mention me, k thanks! :)

Aw, that's so cute! I bet you were so sad when you went and it was closed.

I can't wait to see what you post for tomorrow!!! And don't worry, I won't steal your idea :) I think it's orginal and very cool.

this is such a good idea!

okay, other than saying i LOVE BTMRR at night (it's so fun in the dark!), the only memory i can think of is the first time ray and i rode it together back in may 2007. there was this guy sitting in front of us who kept screaming and yelling, "BRING IT ON!!!!!!" it was so funny! i love BTMRR but you have to admit it's not THAT thrilling of a ride! i don't go to disney for the thrills and i don't think anyone else does either. it's more about the theming. you want thrills - go to universal or six flags. this guy was acting like it was the SCARIEST rollercoaster ever and he was so brave to be riding it. :rotfl2:

Great idea! I kinda want to do it on my PTR. However....I would run out of attractions at this point! Way too much time to wait! :( :hourglass

I love BTMRR too. I always think of my Mom, because when I was little, like one of my first trips, I remember her talking about how it was her favorite ride. I don't think it is anymore, I think EE is her favorite now, but still, when I hear BTMRR, I think "Oh, Mom's favorite!"

:)

Haha, that's so funny! And you're so right. I don't care of it's a thrill ride or not!

Attraction of the Day...

Soarin'

I guess my memory for Soarin' isn't on the actual ride-but in line! It was evening EMH's, and my B/F and I decided we wanted it to be our last ride of the night before we headed back to the resort. We got in line, which wasn't too bad! We finally made our way up to the big screens that used to have the pictures and questions. They now have the interaction game things where it's your shawdow or whatever. It was so funny watching all the people get so into the game. We decided to live a little and get in on the action. We couldn't stop laughing the entire time! :)

i don't really have any memories of soarin other than the first time i rode it in the front row - it was so much better than seeing feet in front of me! oh, and this last trip when anna was next to me and she looked over at me at one point and said, "i don't want it to end!!!"

Soarin' - my memory is of the original Soarin' in DCA. It was my first trip to DL and DCA. I was quite impressed with airplane hangar queue area and thought, "Wow. This is going to be a great attraction!" We had front row middle - perfect seats, no dangling feet to obstruct our view and I really thought I was flying! I was amazed by the smells they pumped - orange, pine, and I think I even ducked when the golf ball came flying at us. I began to tear up as we flew over DL and the fireworks shooting in the air. It was the 2nd attraction I rode at DCA.

Enjoyed reading all the BTM stories. I'm a little bit of a chicken so it is the perfect thrill ride for me.

Soarin -
I don't know that I really have a story, but what struck me was that everyone applauds at the end. That says a lot for a ride. :goodvibes

That's so cool! I have yet to make it over to California, but I want to someday!

I noticed that too! I always clap too. Haha. My sis always looks at me like "Quit doing that, you're embarassing me!" :rolleyes2

My Soarin' memory is a magical moment!pixiedust:

We stayed for Epcot evening EMH. Right after the fireworks we headed straight over to Soarin' hoping that the weight would have died down. Yeah right. Us and everyone else did the same thing!:lmao:

So DH and I are standing there debating whether or not the ride was worth the 90 minute wait. That would basically end our evening. We weren't sure that we would really get to ride anything else. I REALLY wanted to ride Soarin' (I'm California born and raised and I was very interested in seeing the sights on this ride!). So here we are, standing there debating and a Soarin' CM comes over to us to start talking.

He asks us if we were going to ride the Soarin'. And we explained our debate. DS was 6, did we want to deal with the wait etc. We were figuring it out.

I know you already know that he was able to take us into Soarin' through the exit area, with several other families that were getting the same little dream btw. And we were able to ride Soarin' about 5 minutes later!

It was so awesome! I almost cried seeing all the different scenes from CA that I haven't seen in so long! Good memories of a nice little dream and also of the place I grew up. I loved it.

Oh, Soarin' is one of my favourite rides!

My favourite memory of it is from this past December. We went straight to Epcot on our first day, and my dad had never ridden Soarin' before. I knew it was something he would love, so it was one of the first rides we picked. I didn't want to build it up too much, so we barely said anything about it, just waited in line. Once we got on the ride, we were sitting in the front row and as soon as the ride started, he began to laugh. He laughed and laughed the whole time and when we got off, my mom had tears in her eyes. Previously my dad was kind of a Disney skeptic, and I know that right there in that moment, he felt the magic completely. I'm so glad we were able to share it with him.:goodvibes
