Our first Christmas at the World...Update 9/7 Pg 9

Just finished reading your first installment. Great start! You are a wonderful story teller.:thumbsup2 Loved your video. I saved it to my favorites so that whenever I need a dose of WL, I can just watch it again. Loved your DW's expression when she came out of the doors at Wilderness, wondering what was taking you so long.:)
Thanks Teresa. Glad you enjoy the video. I picked out the music that was used in WL.

Glad you can join us. :yay:

I have stayed at WL, and I can tell you, that is a very long walk. You must have felt like you would never get there. :scared1:

I'm glad the new room worked for you. I hope you were able to enjoy the fireworks on another evening. :lovestruc
There were time I thought I was in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". :rotfl:

Good update, sorry about the room issues!
It's all good.

Wow! That was a long way to drag all that stuff! So glad this room is working out for you. That was a beautiful view from your room. So what's for breakfast? I hope you have pics! popcorn::
We make fun of the hallway everyday. Here is a quick shot how long was the hallway. It's only 2/3 of it and our room is at the end of the hallway.

Great update! What a walk!! Glad the whole room thing worked out. Love the view from the new room. Can't wait to hear what happens next!!popcorn::
I thought the new room view is better than the old room view.
Enjoyed reading your update and the Pollo Campero (sp?) review. In the pictures I felt like the portions looked a little small. Did you feel that way in person?

Glad to hear the room issue was resolved and that your luggage made it safely "home". Looking forward to reading more!

Yes. The portion of the food at Pollo Campero was kinda small but wasn't bad. I would go back again.

I was about to send out search and rescue after you!

That view is absolutely beautiful! So sorry you went through everything you did to get it. So frustrating at the beginning of a trip!

We slept in a little bit the next morning because we were just too worn from the drive yesterday. By the time we got up, it was already 8am. I normally wake up at 5:30 am. We took our time to get ourselves ready and head out.

First thing we did was to re-checkin again. Why?? Because the night before was only an extra one night stay on top for our 11 days package. So we have to check out and re-check in to get our package. DW was told about it last night when she went to the front desk but they also told her because of the luggage issue and the fridge problem, they wouldn’t move our room. We shall see.

Once we got to the front desk at about 9 am, there were a few people in front of us at the checkin line. I was looking around for photo opportunity while DW was biting her nail waiting patiently for our turn.

We didn’t wait too long for our turn and we were greeting by CM ‘Kash’.

‘Kash’ was super nice. He took care of every thing for us and kept us at ease. Soon we got our third set of KTTW and we didn’t have to move. Yay!!! I then asked him to print us a copy of all of our ADRs so I can match them with what I have. Every ADR was a perfect match compare to what I already enter into my iPhone. I have an app called ‘WDW Dining’ that let me enter all the ADR confirmation#, date, time and which restaurant. Next we stop by the concierge desk to register as flag raising ceremony before we went outside to start our day.

Our first ADR is 11:45am at Whispering Canyon Café, so we have a couple of hours to stroll around. We decide to head over to CR gift shop first to do some window shopping. So we went to the boat dock to catch a boat ride to CR. DW has to make sure I got all my gears before we left the resort. Temperature was in the warm side mid 70’s, I was able to wear t-shirt and short.

Once we got to CR gift shop, DW was all over the Dooney & Burke Disney bags. She dragged me to check out all different version of the bags and showed me what are some of their characteristics. My head just kept spinning and thought…this is going to be expensive.

I can not dragged DW out of the gift shop fast enough before she decide to buy one. :rotfl: We hopped onto the monorail and headed to GF because we want to see the ginger bread house for the first time.

When we arrived GF and stepped off the monorail, DW immediately point out she spotted something at the tree next to the monorail station. It took me a while to spot him or her but there it was, hiding between the tree branches.

This is the best crop shot I can do with him or her and I hardly ever crop any of my pictures. It was pretty far from where I was standing. After spending almost 10 minutes trying to get a better close up even with my most powerful zoom lens, I can not get a nice shot. I finally gave up and moved on going into GF.

The Christmas tree at GF was just as magnificent as the one at WL. (Don’t worry, I have quite a few shots of the WL tree for later.)

DW and I circled down to first floor and check out the ginger bread house. I only saw this house on Travel Channel Samatha Brown Disney special but never in person. When I first saw the GBH, I thought it was a little small than I envisioned but with lots of details like the windows, chimney, front porch and all the decoration around the house. Then again, I am over 6’ tall so everything seems a little small to my eyes. LOL… Obviously, I took plenty of pictures on the GBH and DW was checking out the pricing for a piece of the house.

Even we were just strolling around, before we knew it, lunch time approach faster than we thought and our stomach were growling. So we hop back on monorail again and got off at the MK stop then took the boat back to WL.

While we were waiting at the boat dock, it was about 11:15 am. I looked back at the Magic Kingdom entrance, OMG…people were piling in. It was about as crowd as the rope drop.
DIS_2293.jpg

Thank goodness the boat dock was completely empty. DW and I sat away from the shade. We were just enjoying the sunshine and the warmth. Once the boat docked and all the passenger got off, we were the only two passengers who were heading back to WL. So we choose to see outside at the back of the boat and catch some more outdoor air.

The pictures below might look similar but they were shot with two different cameras at different area. You can tell the difference by looking at the background. This is the beginning of my new obsession, self-portrait without any help. You will know what I mean as you follow the TR. Now, I have proof that I can show people I was actually at those places. LOL… I hardly have any picture of me in the last TR.

Here is us when the boat is still at the dock.

:rotfl: I am sure you know where to find me.

Awesome pictures as always! I love the hawk picture :thumbsup2

Awesome pictures as always! I love the hawk picture :thumbsup2

Double ditto -- love that bird shot, and great to see photos of the two of you! Fun matching hairdos!

I am sooo glad that your trip has started off in a good way. Love the pics, as always. I would love to see the gingerbread house at GF. It looks amazing! So nice to see you and DW together. You should buy her a Dooney & Burke bag of her choice. I'm sure she deserves it! :)

Great update! So glad you didn't have to change rooms again. Your pictures are beautiful. Can't wait to hear about lunch!! popcorn::

Nicely done on those self portrait shots!! :thumbsup2 I think it's cute that you and DW have similar hairdos too. Do blondes have more fun? :rotfl:

I see you're getting a lot of usee from the D700. I used the 5D Mark II for the first time in January, and I love love the quality of the shots, but it took some getting used to not having that much reach. My formerlly telephoto lenses were acting like wide angles and I actually used my 70-200mm a LOT more than I ever did with the cropped sensor. It does take some getting used to.

The gingerbread house looks amazing! I've never seen that much detail before, neat!!

Thanks. That little guy was very hard to capture.
Excellent photos!! Loved the Gingerbread House:lovestruc
The ginger smell was fairly strong too.

Thanks. Our hair were matching by coincident. DW has to use gel to spike her hair. Mine spike up by natural. I don't have to use any gel or hair spray at all.
Thanks.

The gingerbread house was really quite a site. I just don't know how they can keep the bugs away from it.

It's very rare DW and I get to be in the picture together since I am the one who mainly took the pictures. I am glad the new camera allow me to take picture for the both of us together.
As for the D&B Disney bag...we shall see.
Great TR so far. Thanks for posting!!
Thank you for visiting my TR.

Able to stay at the same room do save me a lot of time & muscle. :rotfl: I have lots and lots of pictures to show. Hopefully, my TR can go a little faster pace from this point.

I guess blondes do have more fun. I do get a lot of 'look' wherever I go.

Thanks for the pointer on the self-portrait. I was hestitate at the beginning because I get a lot of blurry one before I can get one good one. As I get more comfortable with the new camera, the successful rate gets much better.

I am still having a small issue on the auto focus with the D700. Some time I can get a spot of focus and some time I don't. DOF is also very sensitive on the full frame. I have to be careful not to open the aperture too wide.

You are right about the lack of reach on full frame. I was not aware of that through out the trip. I have my primes on most of the time between 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm. I was going mad crazy swapping out lens left and right between shots. :headache: That was a lot of work. 85mm became my favorite walk around lens and 24mm or 35mm were great for self-portrait. Then the 70-200mm became acceptable around the park as well. Unfortunately, that lens is just too heavy to carry around all day long. At some point, I might get a 28-200mm but that's a pretty slow lens. As long as I use it for outdoor, it should be okay.

Thanks for sharing your trip report. I'm really enjoying. We're going to WDW and staying at WL in November so I'm enjoying all your pictures!

Gorgeous pics!!! Love your TR so far - can't believe the hike you had hauling your bags!! But your new view seems like it was really nice - hopefully this is the last time of the trip you need to move!

(And I know you posted it awhile ago, but that Mickey punching fist IS hilarious...I so wish I'd have seen that!!...although I'm sure DBF is pretty happy I didn't...)

Oooh I really love he 85mm. I get some awesome portraits with that lens, but too bad I don't own it, I borrowed it one day and I loved it! I think now with the full frame, it's definitely going to be something on my wish list!

Cant' wait to see more of the self portraits. I think you did a good job on them!

YEAH!!!! ANoThEr TOPDOG TR, Im soooooooo excited, loved ur last one! I went out and bought a Canon EOS Rebel T1i after reading because I loved your pictures so much (I know its not a Nikon) I am still learning how to use it, maybe through your adventures in the world, I will know what settings work best in different lighting to shoot awesome pics like you :worship::worship::worship:

Oh my goodness!!! I apologize for not having an update for so long. I was very sick a week and a half ago. Got 101 degree fever. No energy for anything. I couldn't even shovel the driveway when we had 8 inches of snow last Tuesday.

I will start writing and posting soon. I just have to catch up with a lot of stuff first, from home to work.

Thank you for your patience. :flower3:
