Our first Christmas at the World...Update 9/7 Pg 9

Wow! That was a great arrival! Everytime I get "homesick" I'll be watching that video. We are WL groupies and refuse to stay anywhere else. The country pics look just like the area sround here in western PA- beautiful. So glad you had the opportunity to spend time with your family and cared to share that with us. Looking forward toyour next installment.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Oh no! A Cliff Hanger! I hope your luggage makes it to your room. Can't wait for the pictures of the WL at Xmas. We own at VWL and ss soon as our 11 month window opens in January I am booking a 2 bedroom fir Xmas 2011. I have never been at that resort at Xmas and can't wait to see it.

Loved the video! I can't wait for more! WL is my favorite Disney resort. We had family pictures taken in front of that tree in 2008. Can't wait to hear about the luggage!!popcorn::

Hi again, I finished your 2009 disaster report and really enjoyed it. I did not see any of the old faithful geyser pictures from WL, is that gone now? We really enjoyed our stay at WL, but it was a long time ago. Your pictures brought back a lot of memories!! I will look forward to your Christmas 2010 report. My cousins just got back from a Christmas trip last week, they had really cold weather, but still had a nice time!!

Great Update! Love the video. The music was fabulous!!

You made great time with little traffic.
Thanks. That music is part of the normal WL lobby music. (At least to my ears.)

I am liking your report, I will read the previous one and wait for more on this!!
Thanks. I hope you like the "Disaster" report. ;)

I personally love WL because it really remind me of "home" since we live in the woods. However, we might ready try a different resort for the next trip for different experience. We shall see...it will a while before we go back again. Happy New Year to you too.

Xmas at Disney resort really is a league of its' own. It's just "magical". I have some very unusual WL Xmas pictures to show later. Took them from places normal people won't have access. You'll just have to wait. I believe I have some VWL Xmas pictures as well.

Thanks. I took quite a few video through out this trip, so there are more on the way. That Christmas tree in the lobby is just spectacular. :thumbsup2

Glad you like the "Disaster" report. You are correct. I did not took any of the olf faithful geyser pictures on the last trip. That's because the timing wasn't right. During that trip, I start taking picture at 6 am but the geyser doesn't start until 8am. However, I promise you will see the geyser on this trip. The weather was great at the beginning from mid 70s to low 80s, but then...:cold:

I absolutely love that your DW is hurrying you up on the video! I hope you took room pics again this time. I can never tell about WL. It always seems like the beds are low and there aren't enough pillows? I might just be insane though!:rotfl2:

Johnny #5 (Nickname for my video camcorder) is joining us on this leg of the trip as well.
Number 5 is alive!

According to the GPS, we have to take a local country route first passing miles and miles of tobacco farm, cotton farm and half collapse barn.
We seem to have surplus of half collapsed buildings in rural Texas as well.

Once we walked pass that familiar Wilderness Lodge floor mat, the lobby just hit me like a truck. This is the third time we stay at WL but our first at Christmas. I already saw many many pictures what the WL lobby look like in Christmas. But picture just can’t do justice to what you can experience standing in front of this gianormous Christmas tree in the middle of the WL lobby. Breathtaking is an understatement.
Thanks so much for posting the video that went along with this. That place looks amazing! Great video quality as well. Definitely looking forward to more clips.

The CM replied the luggage will be up there shortly. So we thought…that's when the fun begins… Stay tune!
Uh-Oh. I sense this won't end well.

Great job my friend. LOVE the photos as always! You have an amazing eye.

Can't wait for more!

OH - and love the new 'do! Rock on!

Thanks GB. I am still very new to this video thing. Glad it comes out decent. I know some one would know who number 5 is. ;)

The video was awesome! I think it really built up to the anticipation of entering WL and seeing the christmas decor for the first time! I like the music effects too :)

Looks like you had a great time with your family during the holiday, your pictures look fantastic. I'm already putting the GF1 on my b-day wish list. It'll be great for my trip with my sisters in March!

BTW, I thought I'd share a little secret, I bought myself a 5d Mark II hehe, but I will have to see if I like the full frame in order to keep it. It's a very pricey little fella. :littleangel:

What HD video camcorder do you have?

And why did you guys rent a car from again? Was it to save on mileage on your own car?

Yay! Another trip!! Hope your b-day wish comes true. The GF1 is really a great camera. Love it even more with the 20mm lens.

Yay again for joining the full frame club!! 21mp...that's a lot of camera. Shooting full frame is a whole new experience. It's fun to learn how to use the new rig though.

My HD video camcorder is new also. It was a clearance item from Best Buy because it's a 2008 and discontinue model. It's a Sony HDR-CX500. It's a brand new camcorder. Box wasn't never open but Best Buy rather sell it dirty cheap than return it back to Sony. It was a $1,100 camcorder when it was released. I paid barely 1/3 of that. It's great in low light recording. Built-in 32 gig internal memory, enough to record more than 3 hours of HD video in FH mode, the highest quality you can record. SD recording can hold more than 24 hours. The only issue I have is the AVCHD format. I never work with any other video format but DV format(similar to RAW file in photography). So it's another learning experience for me.

Yes. We rent a car because we don't want to put more mileage on our car. Our car already has over 122,000 miles.

So we proceed to get on the elevator and go check out our room. It is imperative you know the location of room 4007. I brought home a copy of the Wilderness Lodge footprint layout so you have an idea where the room is at. I marked the room location with a Green circle.

Once we get into the room, I took my usual room pictures and the balcony view pictures.

While I was taking pictures and getting my gears out of the bag, DW began to “wipe down” the room. She carried a box of Lysol wipes to disinfect all the handles and phone. We are not germophobic but we do feel better once the room was “wiped”. During the wipe down, DW discovered there were some half empty bottles in the fridge like orange juice that must’ve left from the previous guest. She immediately called the front desk and explained the issue. They apologized and said some one will be up there immediately to clean up the fridge.

So we wait and wait and wait. After about 30 minutes, no sign of Mousekeeping or bell service for our luggage. We figure they were probably back up and decide to leave the room to go to DTD and get something to eat because our ADR doesn’t start until tomorrow afternoon.

Once we left the room and got to the lobby, I want to stop by the gift shop to look for a specific item that I saw from our last trip. It’s a leather trench coat (the technical term I believe is called “duster”?) that used to be a Wilderness Lodge resort clothing merchandise. Cost for the coat was $235. I didn’t want to spend the money then. However, this time I am arm with my Disney reward card from my Disney Visa and I have already accumulate 200 Disney reward points. That can be use as $200. I figure I can pick up the coat with only $35 + the 200 reward points. Unfortunately, the coat was not there any more. It’s no big deal. Just a little disappointment but I am sure I can find something to spend later on. I purposely save the reward points for this trip because the points were suppose to expire by the end of December. I have to either use it or loose it before we leave Disney.

We left the gift shop after knowing the coat is not there any more and go pick up our car to go to DTD. Of course we didn’t know where are we going because we haven’t drove in Disney ground since 1995 and I didn’t program the GPS either. But we figure we will find our way some how. After a few wrong turn and we still managed to find our way into DTD.

It took us a while to find a parking spot because DTD was packed. Once we parked the car and strolled around for a little, then decide to get some thing quick to eat at Pollo Campero. It’s a quick service restaurant.

This is the first time I ever look at the price on a Disney restaurant menu. Since we always do the dining plan, I never pay much attention how much food cost in Disney. I was shocked some what how pricey was the menu. I kept my mouth shut about the price because I am sure DW would told me “Don’t be a tight wart!” :rotfl2:

So DW ordered a citrus grill chicken salad wrap

DIS_2128.jpg

I ordered a skirt steak salad

DIS_2127.jpg

and we shared a bottle of water. Yet, total is a few cents short from $20. Since this will be the only meal that’ll be pay OOP, I just let it go.

My salad was very tasty and DW’s wrap was pretty good too. So it’s all good.

After we finished our meal, we walked around a bit more. First stop…

DIS_2131.jpg

This place is wall to wall people. We walked around the store just to browse around some unusual merchandise but no intention to buy any thing yet. I thought the new Duffy bear was pretty neat. It has a face of a Mickey’s head and even the foot has the Mickey’s head as a claw print.

DIS_2137.jpg

I got a chuckle out of the plaid stuff Mickey as well.

DIS_2141.jpg

Then DW was drooling all over the Dooney & Burke Disney bags. She was determine to pick one up before the trip is over.

DIS_2147.jpg

I was more interest to look at some novelty toy stuff. I thought the Mickey punching fist was just hysterical. (Almost bought it.)

And finally, I love those Star Wars character potato head because I have the very first version of Darth Vader potato head when it was first introduced. The Yoda potato head was just too funny.

After a few more minutes of strolling at the World of Disney, we left empty hand and walk around outside for a while. The whole place was still crowded every where.

DIS_2169.jpg

Temperature was mild, at about mid 60. It was perfect weather to just walk around outside. As we were walking, we heard live Christmas music.

DIS_2166.jpg

This picture might not look much but I was so impress how this shot came out. The lightning actually was very dim in person. I can hardly see the faces of these guys. I was surprise how much light the new camera has picked up. For those who are into photography, this shot was taking with 3200 ISO at 1/80 sec with 1.4 f/stop.

I was getting a little thirsty after all these walking and when we pass…

DIS_2153.jpg
D700

I offer to treat DW a hot cocco and I got a latte.

DIS_2152.jpg
D700

This place was so busy but the servers were very quick.

DIS_2149.jpg

After we finish our treat, we stick around only a little longer and DW picked up a couple of pins from the trade post. We then left and head back to the resort.

Driving back seems to be a bit easier. It took us shorter time to get back to the resort than going to DTD. I guess we didn’t get lost much going back.

As soon as we parked the car and walked pass the “drop zone” at the resort, I notice our luggage was still sitting on the cart outside with the greeter. My Disney jacket was hanging on the cart and that’s how I recognize our luggage cart. Obviously, DW wasn’t happy about it. She ask the CM why our luggage is still sitting outside. She turn around and saw the cart and also surprise how long it has been sitting there. She then asked us did we still have our bell service ticket. DW told her we gave it to the bell service CM in the lobby because we already checked in since 5pm. (That was 3.5 hours ago.) The CM told us we need to complain to the bell service and they need to come pick up the luggage to our room immediately.

Once we walked into the lobby and went to the bell service desk. It was a different CM at the desk than the one we gave our ticket to 3.5 hours ago. Of course even we weren’t happy with the situation but we didn’t raise our voice. We explained to the CM behind the bell service desk it has been 3.5 hours since we checked in and our luggage was still sitting outside. The CM was shocked why our luggage were still sitting out there. :scared1:

Frankly, I was a little surprise why no one even question who’s those luggage belongs to because it’s the only cart of luggage left out there. Not like there were a line of carts there were filled with luggage sitting there waiting to get deliver. In any event, it is what it is. Let’s just move on.

The bell service apologize profusely and asked us what’s our room # plus paging some one immediately in unison. He said he guaranteed our luggage will be deliver to our room immediately. I said it’s okay, at least the luggage didn’t get lost.

By the time we get to the elevator, get in, get out and start walking towards our room. At some point, we walked pass another elevator bank and there it was. Two CMs wheeling our luggage cart out of the elevator. We were like WOW!!! Suddenly, they are lightning fast. They follow us to our room and unload the luggage. While the CMs were unloading, DW opened the fridge and found the half empty bottles were still in the fridge. That didn’t sit well with DW because we have a tray of water that DW want to get a few bottles into the fridge. One of the CM offer to clean up the fridge for us but the other CM said they can’t do that because Mousekeeper still needs to disinfect inside the fridge. (Good point!) The CM suggested we need to go down to the front desk to get this resolve in person. So I tipped the CMs and thank them for bring up the luggage so quickly. They thank me and apologize again on what happened to our luggage.

After the CMs left the room, DW went downstair and deal with the front desk about the fridge while I download the pictures and video onto the hard drive since I am pretty much done for the night. I specially told DW please be nice to the CM. I understand she’s not happy with the situation but raising her voice isn’t going to help. She said she will be nice about it and went on her way.

15 minutes or so later, DW came back and said we need to pack everything back. I said “huh?”. DW said the front desk told her there is no one at Mousekeeper that late to clean the fridge. (It was about 8:45pm at the time.) I thought this just keep getting better by the minute and we are at the World barely 4.5 hours. DW continues "Our only other option is..." I said “huh?” again. popcorn::

Hooray -- onsite TR is on its way, with, of course, a cliffhanger!

(The map is not showing up for me, the dreaded red X -- but the views are great -- hope you didn't lose that view).

I re-save the map with a different color profile. Hopefully, that solve the red X problem. If any one still can't see the map, please let me know.

Yes. This view was awesome. Because temperature was cool so the pool was not busy. It was nice and quiet too. I love listening the waterfall at night.

Great Update!

Oh, how I miss WL. We were all the way at the end of that floor facing the lake. It is quite a walk.

Glad you got your luggage. Too bad about the fridge. I hope Mousekeeping gets better throughout the week.

I love the plaid Mickey. I want one!!

OH NO! No duster, no luggage AND a dirty fridge! Not a great way to start off. I do hope DW was able to upgrade you to something better. Your pictures are incredible of course! I want the hot chocolate with all the cream on top! That looks delicious!

On our last trip we had the room across the hall from you overlooking Otter Pond. We loved it. It was quiet all day and at night-we could see Wishes from our balcony! :cloud9: I was so happy that I could watch the fireworks every night after the kids had fallen asleep.

TD, I hope things start looking up for you and DW. After the last trip you really deserve it! I can't wait to hear what happens next! popcorn:: You are such a great story teller!

P.S. Thanks for the picture of Duffy. I have to talk to the Easter Bunny about delivering a couple the next time he's here. ;)

Good for you two for not getting snippy with the CMs about the room issues. Cannot say I would have been as polite...

Does your DW's family live around the Greenville area? I grew up about 45 minutes west of there. The scenery looked all too familiar.

Love the pictures, as always!

So excited to start your trip (report) with you! I'm already excited to SEE where you are moving (crossing my fingers you got an upgrade) and what tomorrow will bring.

oh wow!

another top dog report. First thing I checked for was to see if you had the camera bag. Whew - glad it came with you.

so I'm signed on to see how your adventure went this time

Hi there, joing in. Love your TR so far. Your pics are great and I really enjoyed the video. Here's hoping for an upgrade...you really deserve it. Can't wait to read more. We'll be staying at the Wilderness Lodge in October so I'm hoping they treated you nice.:thumbsup2
