Our second day started with the Character Caravan which was a bit disappointing as it was drizzling that morning and the characters were exactly the same as the ones we had seen the night before at Mickey's BBQ sans Mickey. We proceeded to take a few photos anyway and snagged one with Chip and Dale together for once!
Hopping a bus to AK, we headed straight for the new rides in Chester & Hester's Dinorama area. Primeval Whirl was a hit with everyone who rode. Triceratops Spin was a little tamer but still fun. I really liked this new area altho' we didn't get much time to explore as the skies began to open up for the second of many times that day! We made a mad dash for Dinosaur!
We had an early lunch at Restaurantosuarus. We had to wait for it to open but we got to be one of the first ones in line. Mostly everyone in our party had burgers with and without cheese but I chose the turkey wrap which was very good.
In quick succession we hit the FOTLK, Pocahontas, the Safari, and Kali River Rapids. Some members partook of ITTBAB but us 'fraidy cats checked out the interactive kiosks. Of course, I got all of the questions correct, after a few tries!
We hightailed it out of there in order to get our wristbands at MK for e-nite that very evening. We actually had reservations at Boma and wanted to stick closer to that end of the World but my sister and her family opted out of e-nite and this would be their only opportunity for rides at MK. The lines in Fantasyland had 30-60 min waits so we were not happy campers. We did manage to get into IASW but upon coming out we were bombarded by the fiercest of the rains that trip. And of course our ponchos were safely tucked away in a locker on Main St.
That was our cue to leave once we secured refuge for my sister in the nearby CHH. We dodged raindrops all the way to the main gate, donned ponchos and took a bus to AKL arriving early for our 7pm reservations. That gave us plenty of time to change clothes (for the kids anyway, I had an extra shirt but dh had to buy one!) and look around at the animals, take some pics and generally soak up the ambience of this great resort. One negative observation: The bus stop is a loooong way off from the lobby but all under cover fortunately!
Dinner at Boma was the highlight of this day! We feasted on wonderfully seasoned prime rib, baked chicken, beef & lamb quiche, nut crusted salmon, chicken pepper pot soup (I added the saffron rice), chicken corn porridge, a ginger squash soup, curried coconut seafood stew, curry pasta and potato salad (my favorites), a few strange salads of fruit and mixed greens, some cauliflower and squashes, an amazing Indala Sauvignon Blanc and a dizzying array of desserts.
These deserve their own paragraph! The choices were - passionfruit meringue tart, coconut mango puffs, pumpkin cheesecake, tropical fruit tarts, guava jam squares, mocha nut crunch and of course the much talked about zebra domes. At first I couldn't see what all the fuss was about. I sampled and moved on...to every other dessert offering there was except the cookies, I left those for the kids! I was sure the mocha nut crunch would be the winner as it was very chocolate-y looking and with mocha in it's name you can't go wrong. However, on my dh's say so I went back to the zebra domes giving them a second chance...then a third and even comparing them side by side with the before mentioned 'mnc'. It was only fair, of course.
And wa-la they emerged as my all time favorite! I couldn't get enough despite the fact that I had had enough! I was filled to the gills!! What a wonderful experience.
We rolled out of there and headed to e-nite at the MK. We rode quite a few rides in quick succesion and found this to be a good value especially with EE being discontinued and the waits as long as they were. I'm not one to fight lines. We usually go in the off season or try to zig when ever everyone else is zagging if at all possible. We returned to CSR after midnight.
Another successful day. We did not yet realize how our early accomplishments at such a commando pace would soon ruin us physically. Too much too soon, I guess.
Next is the backlash of the whirlwind!
