Ouch - I broke my tail bone.....

Pam - feel free to use my excuse any time....."good speller - bad typist" - lol!!

Micca - that is a concern for me since I am already battling lingering back and neck pain from a car accident - just one more thing......

I broke mine about 20 years ago and I still have pain to this day. If I go somewhere that I know has hard seats, I take a stadium cushion. During final exams in high school I had to get a note saying I couldn't sit for the whole 2 hours per test.
Seeing my chiropractor regularly helps keep everything in line which does help the pain, however unfortunately it will last forever. Sorry it happened, just take it easy and don't sit in one position for to long. The best thing to do is get up and walk around for 5-10 minutes every hour or so.

Kermit,
Those injections are probably cortizone which doesn't leave your system, at least it didn't used to. I would avoid this if possible for long term treatment My MIL had cortizone shots after being burned and it has majorly affected her health.

Yes, I had fallen down stairs and broke my tailbone. Over the years because of it I developed a Pyanial (sp) cist and had to have it taken out. I had to stay in the hospital over night for monitering and after that I was fine but I did have to sit on a dougnut for a while. Hope you feel better

I've nothing to add as far as healing goes. But this does sound painful and I want to wish you the best medical care as you heal from this. :goodvibes

Four to six weeks? That's a very optomistic doctor.

I broke my tailbone almost exactly 13 months ago. It's easy to remember the day because it broke during childbirth. :) Mine still hurts, some days more than others. Within a few weeks it will get much, much better, and he'll probably be able to endure sitting a lot easier, but breaking your tailbone is very painful. I still occassionally get tears in my eyes when I go from sitting to standing. My doctor said I needed to get an injection of an anti-inflamatory directly in my tailbone, but I will say that I don't think it hurts badly enough to do that.

I hope you do feel better soon. From the research I've done, some people do recover completely, but having some pain for a long time isn't uncommon.

OMG!! Me too!! I thought I was a freak or something. My tailbone broke during childbirth too!! My doctor looked at me like I was from an alien planet or something when I told her! Oh it hurt for weeks. I couldn't even nurse my DS because I could not find a comfortable (or rather non-painful) position!!

Sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you get better soon. :sunny:

Oh, I thought of another thing that helps. Instead of the usual "donut" pillow, try a neck pillow. Sit with the opening in the back, it's more of a U shape so there's nothing touching the tailbone when you sit. My daughter has been carrying hers everywhere. And please, please try to get it put back into the correct position. You can tell from everyone's posts on here that leaving it to heal in a broken position can lead to years of pain.

Broke mine too, well over a year ago and it's still uncomfortable. I didn't know they could 'adjust it'. I would have endured a little discomfort to not have to go through this past year with it.

DISNEYFANRI, if you can, try to have that done so you can tell us all in a year how much it doesn't hurt. :)

I have already made an appt with an orthopedist - should I see my Chiropractor too??

Some chiropractors do that kind of adjustments, some Physical Therapists do it also, you need to find one that deals with Pelvic Floor problems. Keep us posted.
