How should I get tomorrow off?

  • Grow a pair, and go in and ask the boss to his face, for both tomorrow and next Friday off

  • Chuck a sicky

  • Tell the office girls I won't be in and don't mention it to the boss - and hope for the best

  • Other

Stupid work related question :lmao:

So I went in to see my boss this morning to ask about getting tomorrow off, as DH needs me to drive with him to Newcastle to pick up a new work vehicle.

The conversation sort of went like this:

Me: Hey, is there any chance I can get Friday off?
Boss: Oh yeah, sorry I forgot about that. This confused me, because I hadn't mentioned it to him, but I didn't say anything because who wants to make the boss look like a doufus when you're asking a favour? :confused3
Boss: Look, I'm 99% sure you can have it off, but I just need to look into it a bit, because there are two other people who wont be here next Friday either...
This is where it dawned on me, several months ago I asked for next Friday off, for a wedding. I had assumed all was well because he hadn't said no, and it's booked as time off in my calender. He still hadn't given me permission to take next Friday off, and here I was asking for tomorrow off as well. :lmao: Instead of doing the responsible thing and owning up to needing both Fridays off, I sort of nodded and said;
Me: Just let me know when you can... and scampered... :rotfl2:

Now here's where I'm asking for advice. Should I slink back into his office, and to save face claim that DH has just asked me to get tomorrow off as well? Should I chuck a sicky? Should I let the office girls know I wont be in, and not say anything to the boss and hope for the best? - The way we work is it's quite possible for the boss and I to miss each other all day, so he might not even notice I haven't been in... :rolleyes1

Or, of course - other? :rotfl:

pull the "i'm such a ditz..i completely forgot about the other friday...gee I'm so glad I remembered, i would have been so embarrassed..but with the dog being sick ((insert sob)) and my second cousin coming down with an exotic disease (((sob sob))) ".......oh, and if a bloke boss, mention womans problems, womans goods, womans rights....he'll go running .....

gee i do enjoy "other" on a poll

I was about to open another post when i saw a POLL! I thought "omg, a poll, woo hoo" LOL.

Anyway I do not condone throwing sickies at all, have never done it myself (probably because I've always worked for myself or in a family business so they would know if I was sick or not :lmao:).

In saying that I selected chuck a sickie. However the problem with that will be... if you do, and he hasn't decided on next friday, he may say no to next friday because you had tomorrow off.

Tough decision. If it were me, I'd probably go back saying your DH had just called about tomorrow and say you'd forgotten about next Fri, but need that off too.

Let us know what you decide.

I think I'm going to just tell the office girls and hope for the best. Hopefully I'll be back in town by lunch and able to come in then, and he'll just think I've been out at appointments all morning, if he notices me missing at all... :lmao:

I'm not a fan of chucking sickies either, simply because I feel so guilty all day I never enjoy the time off, and especially if I'm leaving the house. I'd spend the whole time looking over my shoulder :rotfl2:

Similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago - in the end I just said 'sorry something unavoidable has come up and I can't work on Tuesday'. Nothing they could do about it, the less details you give them the better ;) I was going to call in sick, but then I thought after telling my line manager I couldn't work, if any one else found out I was 'sick' it wouldn't go down too well with the larger management team.

Is there any way you could miss the morning and come in during the afternoon or would you need to be gone all day? Hope it all works out.
