Stupid work related question
So I went in to see my boss this morning to ask about getting tomorrow off, as DH needs me to drive with him to Newcastle to pick up a new work vehicle.
The conversation sort of went like this:
Me: Hey, is there any chance I can get Friday off?
Boss: Oh yeah, sorry I forgot about that. This confused me, because I hadn't mentioned it to him, but I didn't say anything because who wants to make the boss look like a doufus when you're asking a favour?
Boss: Look, I'm 99% sure you can have it off, but I just need to look into it a bit, because there are two other people who wont be here next Friday either...
This is where it dawned on me, several months ago I asked for next Friday off, for a wedding. I had assumed all was well because he hadn't said no, and it's booked as time off in my calender. He still hadn't given me permission to take next Friday off, and here I was asking for tomorrow off as well.
Instead of doing the responsible thing and owning up to needing both Fridays off, I sort of nodded and said;
Me: Just let me know when you can... and scampered...
Now here's where I'm asking for advice. Should I slink back into his office, and to save face claim that DH has just asked me to get tomorrow off as well? Should I chuck a sicky? Should I let the office girls know I wont be in, and not say anything to the boss and hope for the best? - The way we work is it's quite possible for the boss and I to miss each other all day, so he might not even notice I haven't been in...
Or, of course - other?
