I'm looking for a pair of these for James, but I don't want to get Bose. He really will probably only use them a handful of times a year, but I want to get him something for the plane. Can someone please recommend a pair that are not overly expensive?

I was going to recommend the Bose. They are awesome. They are worth every penny. They are great when listening to music also. Hopefully someone can offer an alternative.

The "in ear" model made by Apple work pretty good. I got them last year and have used them quite a bit and they work pretty good.

If he mows the lawn and listens to an iPod while mowing, I'd suggest he use them then as well. DW pushed me to use hers, and I have to say that it makes it a much more pleasant experience.

DW's model has been discontinued - but a good pair of these are worth their weight in gold.

I've tried a few and Bose really are the best.

Sennheiser PXC250

I am not a fan of the Bose (Dr. Bose's PhD is in Marketing not EE). The Audio leaves a lot to be desired especially for the money.

I love Sennheiser products. The audio is fantastic across the board.

For a bit more money, the Audio-Technica has great audio also and is more comparable to the QC2/QC3. These are what I use in loud environments.

Audio-Technica

FWIW - I fly a bunch for work and use these on my Netbook, Laptop, Ipod, and Phone. They sound great.

I like the bose but for a cost reasons I use Skull Candy. They have an assortment of in ear, over the ear and ear muff style. Prices are good and we have 3 pair in our home to use we love them. I even purchased for my parents and they also love them. Some of them are weird looking but they have plain ones as well and all kinds of colors. www.skullcandy.com Also if your looking for noise reduction they are listed under Ruckus Reduction on the site.

Another vote here for over the ear Bose. I love mine. Expensive but they'll last forever.

My boyfriend swears by Skull Candy. He even uses them while riding the lawn mower.

my dad has also been looking for some of these... *calls dad to see thread*

I have the Sony pair that runs about $100 that are good but not great.

Sennheiser here too! :thumbsup2

Comes with all the attachments for the different types of jacks and I've always been able to plug in. I like that the "headband" folds in half so it's very compact and the sturdy case keeps everything safe. At first I didn't really know what the big deal was but it makes flying much more tolerable - I still turn off the switch for a second sometimes just to hear how much noise it cuts out :rotfl2: It goes with me everytime I travel. :goodvibes

cheers,
:flower3:

I have in ear plugs that are just round $15 and they are in ear plugs.
I think that all in ear plugs are great and good sound reductive.

Ofcourse Bose or more expensive ear plugs are better, but when he is only using these a couple of times buy the cheap ones....

I bought Brian the sennheiser ones and they're great. When we went to Cali last year, I just couldn't justify spending that much on me. I got the skull candy ones from Best Buy. They're not *as* good, but they work pretty darned well and the price was right.

I just ordered a pair of the audio-technica for myself and my daughter when we fly. I saw some really great reviews on amazon.

Thanks for this thread!!!

I need a pair as well, although for my 16 yr old. I know Bose is best and I would love to buy them, but he is just 16, they'll be used on a bus riding to football games, and I just don't want to chance them getting broken.

I was wondering which less expensive pair were any good.

I bought some at 6pm.com I got skullcandy. They were 60% off and cost $27 a pair. I got pink and blue. I wonder which pair James will want to use???

Got to agree with these two recommendations. :thumbsup2

But then again, Val would vote for the Bose QC3's.
Yes, that's right - there are some things that we disagree on. So, she flies with the Bose. I fly with the Sennheisers.

Part of the appeal of the Sennheisers to me is their compact size - especially for travel purposes.
