OT: Advice on buying a timeshare

if you ever stayed in a 1 or 2 or 3 bedroom at a DVC you might began to understand.

staying at Disney is different - it is hard to explain but it is different....

I am to cheap to stay in a 1-bedroom.... but sometimes I will - it is just a completely different feeling....

oh if you aren't going to buy DVC DON't buy Orlando - much to easy to trade into.... yes even the Marriott are an easy trade when they are in Orlando.

get something close to where you are - if you can't find a cheap beach week.

Wow, thanks darren, but if i understand you right do you pay three times???

1)to purchase "in" at $14K
2)to rent, for your 5 days you are paying an additional $1550
3)annual maintenance at $616

I think $1,550 is the amout if you rent points for the stay at $10 a point.

If you bought, then the $616 is your maintenance.

Okay, so if I bought "in" with the $14K I don't need to pay the rental amount, just my buy in and the annual maintenance.

And if I'm not an owner, i would pay the rental amount but still have my $14K and my $616.

Pat, We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge a few years ago for a few days. Is that a different experience then the DVC locations? We've been to Orlando so many times now we travel primarily for the weather but we do want a nice resort and the Marriotts always deliver.

all WDW resorts (these include DVC resort) have a different theme - so you can feel like you are different places...

I really like the old south florida so OKW really is my favorite.

I like the northwestern atittude of VWL - so again a favorite.

Love the atlantic seacoast of BCV so another one....

they really try to make you feel like you are there....

some people love the WDW resorts - others hate them.

I have stayed at a bunch of other places - but I just prefer WDW...

(of course I also hate to fly)

I like VWL in the fall/winter, BCV in the summer/spring, OKW all year around - but especially the spring/fall....

jeff
if you want to stay in a 2 bedroom unit during presidents week you will need to buy around 350 points which puts your buy in at 30k plus and your maintainance at around 1500 plus. if you look at the dvc point chart on this site you will see the 150 minimum by in doesnt go very far for 2 bedroom units.
it seems alot of people only stay sunday thru thursday and go someplace else for the weekend since the weekend point rates are quite high.
hope this helps you out

No, sorry I wasn't very clear, but I think others have cleared it up.

I was trying to show 2 different scenarios.

First, to purchase "in" at 14K+ and you will have the annual maintenance in addition.

Second, to rent you would have the 5 days at $1550.

I originally regretted our purchase as I kept seeing the monthly fees, plus the monthly payment on the purchase. Now that the initial purchase is paid off, I feel great. We pay around $600/year and we are set for 5 - 10 days a year depending on where we stay, when we stay, and what type unit we want.
