How many of you are sick of acceptance speaches that go ON AND ON AND ON!! Why must these winners thank everyone they have ever known! I think short and sweet is the best.

I bring this up because of the two guys who won an Oscar for .... I don't know editing, sound, screen writing.... something like that (can't remember what the award was for). Anyway, both came up with acceptance speaches in hand and the first guy just went on, and on, and the other guy didn't get a chance to say anything at all! You could see the other guy was just chomping at the bit waiting to get his turn, and looked a little po'd when he didn't. And worse was the first guy that took all the time up, didn't seem bothered at all that his colleague didn't have an opportunity to thank anyone. It just seemed so rude. Did anyone else see this?

yep. dh and i both felt bad for one guy in particular. i forget what categry it was, but he had his little speech written out and looked really sad when he didn't get to say anything.

I'm on the other side of this issue, you just gave them an award for thier work, let them thank whoever they want. Let the show run long if you have to.

I noticed that too.
That poor guy crumpled up his speak in his hand as he started to walk off
I don't know if it was anger or if he felt stupid for having the paper and not saying anything

Acceptance speeches are one of the reasons I don't watch award shows anymore. I think the people that win have the right to thank everyone under the sun, but I don't want to hear it. The day after an awards show, you would have to live under a rock not to know who the winners were, just turn on the radio or the TV or open the newspaper. It beats sitting through all the "thank you to my mom, dad, uncle, producer, director, janitor, plastic surgeon, pet turtle, blah, blah, blah..."

I know exactly who you guys are referring to, and I said the same thing to my DH when he didn't get a chance to speak!

I think they should compliment the others in their catgeory, thank everyone who worked on their movie... a general thank you, not name by name...and thank their family and be done. I also don't want to hear their political views because I don't particularly care about them.

I did like Tim Robbins mentioning that if you have been a victim of abuse, it's not your fault and get help. I thought that was nice.

I so agree! I NEVER watch award shows because of them. Once I know who won, I could care less what they have to say. I DID watch last night tho, to catch any and all glimpses of Johnny Depp. :teeth:
