My DS and his gf will be arriving at Orlando/Sanford (3/5/06) and will need a transfer to WDW? Any ideas/suggestions for them that will be reasonable? THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

I found the cheapest way to get there was to rent a car from Alamo and return it to the car center at the Dolphin Resort the next day. We are arriving at 9:00 pm and will return the car the next morning. It was about $50. A car service was going to be around $175.

If they are flying in on Allegiant, they have a $21pp transfer option each way to / from the airport to the Lake Buena Vista area. Town cars run in the $200 range.

They may need to consider a rental. All the major companies have cars available at Sanford.

While waiting for a Southwest ding to come in from Detroit to Orlando we are about ready to fly from Toledo to Sanford. I was in the same pickle with a higher fees to use shuttle service. I never thought of a 1 day rental and I see that Alamo has a site at the Dolphin which is where we are staying. Thanks for the great idea. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I am also flying into Sanford in August. Will you let me know what you decided to do about the transfer? Right now rental cars via Alamo for my family of five seem to be about 70 for one day.

Howdy turning40, how did you ever find this thread....it is over a year old....

But anyway, my DS took the Allegiant Air transfers...they were very reasonable!

Good Luck!!

I was just searching for "sanford" and stumbled on your post, and it didn't hit me that it was 06, not'07 until after I posted. Thanks for replying at any rate! Allegiant will save me about $350 in airfare.:cheer2: I am paying more attention to the dates, now!

What we did was called Allegiant and inquired about WDW transfers!!!

Yes, my son saved a ton on Allegiant Air! They had a fab flight and actually arrived early on both legs of the trip. Anytime you can land early on a WDW trip is HEAVENLY!!! :goodvibes

The Allegiant $21.00 rate is per person one way. So that means $42.00 per person roundtrip. Evidently it is a shuttle van and so stops will be made on the way to your resort. It may be 2 hours after baggage when you get to WDW.

An average family of 5 would cost over $200.00. You can find transfers by car service companies for as little as $180.00. That will get you there about an hour after you pick up baggage, unless you want to stop for groceries along the way. By the way, the price includes 1 or 2 child seats if you need them. Car service is a door to door service both ways. Many car services are not vans, but more luxurious SUVs.

Rental of a car can cost you up to $400 or better per week. So you leave it in the parking lot at Disney or maybe use it once or twice. The only other alternative is to rent one to Disney for a day and return in a rental. That costs approx. $150.00 plus the time you spend from the car rental agency to your hotel.

I didn't know about the allegiant transfer thing at all. I did try calling them once with another question and I could never get a person. And I emailed them and it took days for them to get back.
But I guess the transfer isn't all that great, as with 3 people round trip will add up. We are renting a car from dollar and got it for about 200 for March 4~8 including a carseat, so I thought that was decent enough. We are getting a interemediate size.
I looked at shuttles and taxi's ,etc, and the cost were the same or more. Now we have a car for the whole stay, and even though we may not use it much, we have it if we do need it. And can leave when we want to and not wait on others.

As with any airport, p/p prices usually are only a good deal for the single/couple travelling. It is almost always more cost effective to hire a car service or rent a rental car for a large party, the price per person drops the more people involved in a fixed price transfer.

If I was a single traveller, $42 r/t is cheaper than a $150 rental or a $200 car service.
