Opinions wanted TIW vs DDP

We have decided to do both :woohoo:
I used the menus on allears to estimate what we would normally order for our TS meals. I did the math and the DDP saves us a bit, not a lot, of money. We like the idea of the CS, TS and snack each day, plus we can use our snack credits at the F & W festival.
We do like an appy and a beer or wine with dinner. So we will use the TIW card for those things. Plus it is good for a year. We hope to go to Vero Beach next year and use the TIW there as well.
It seemed like a good deal and we hope it will work as we plan
Have a Great Trip.

I really hate it when others snip my posts and contort the context.

The point of my post was, I spent a lot of time crunching the numbers for me and said so. I also posted the reason that my analysis skewed toward TIW. So by saying the definitive answer is TIW, and later saying that it depends on how you eat and what you eat, means that every situation is different and there is no definitive answer.

I am generally a really laid back and helpful person, but post snipping to change the intent and meaning of what I write really makes me mad.

I think the problem is that you said it was a definitive answer and it really isn't. The TIW card is what works for you, however others may find different results, even after crunching the numbers. I realize that you did clarify this point later in your post, but I don't think that was particularly clear.

For example, we usually use the TIW exclusively and never get the DDP. On our upcoming trip, however, we will be staying at several DVC resorts for varying lengths of stay. We will be getting the QSDP on one reservation (one night) and the Regular DP on two others. Our longer stays will not have any DP attached. By doing it this way we will be able to save money over what we would have with the TIW card. We will share meals as we rarely eat an entree and dessert on our own. This will have the added benefit of making the credits go a bit farther.

Now I know that most people do not vacation like that...several short stays at multiple resorts...but that just goes to show that there really is no definitive answer. Each person/group has to crunch the numbers and see what works for them.

So please don't get upset about the other reply to your post. I don't think it was meant in a snippy way (I didn't take it that way, anyway) I think it was just a different opinion.

This last trip convinced me that TiW was the better way to go, for the simple reason that I got sick on the last two days. I couldn't eat much at all, and I would have wasted all that money on credits that I couldn't use. With TiW, I didn't have to worry about it.

Also, while I had plenty of ADRs booked, our plans changed during the trip and we cancelled the ADRs. For example, one night we decided to stay at Epcot rather than go to Kona Cafe & the MK. I cancelled the ADR. If we had been on the dining plan, I would have felt obligated to go or otherwise risk losing the credits if we couldn't get into another TS restaurant.

I like the flexibility that TiW gave me. And I don't need the desserts at the CS restaurants, which I would be paying for on the dining plan.

"Snipping" your post did not take it out of context or change the tone - You stated that "definitively" TIW is better than DDP and that it will save you money over paying for the dining plan.

If you had said, "for my situation, the TIW is better than the DDP. I ran the numbers.....etc (as per that part of your post)" I would not have felt the need to comment. But stating that one is definitively (meaning, by definition) the better option, even if you go back later and say well depending on how you eat. You have contridicted that first statement. Many people won't look at your caveat - just that TIW is better than the DDP.

There is no "definitive" answer for everyone. It depends on their situation which is more cost effective and fits better with their trip.

Later in the same post I did contridict the statement, that was the point, you didn't include that in what you replied to. You chose to cut my post and reply to it as if it were what I meant.

Maybe it wasn't clear in my original post that I was joking, even though I began with Okey dokey, and used buuuuuuuuttttttt

If you read my reply to you, you will also clearly see that I don't think there is a definitive answer and every situation is different. Yet in your reply you chose lecture me again.

If I choose to reply to a post someone has posted, I make sure I read the post in it's entirety.

I think you are taking this far too personally and making it into a much bigger deal than it is. Your original post did come off as having the "definitive" answer to the OP's question. Even though you feel you clarified that you were not stating a "definitive" answer later in your post I do not think that was clear. I read it the same way PrincessTrisha did. She disagreed with you and is entitled to her opinion. Just because she didn't do what you would do doesn't make her wrong. I think it's time to move on.

What is the TIW card and how do you get one?

The TIW card is the Tables in Wonderland card. It is a discount card available only to Florida Residents and WDW Annual Pass holders. It give you 20% off at most table-service restaurants and at some counter service restaurants. The discount includes both food and beverages (including alcohol). If you qualify, you can purchase the TIW card over the phone or at any park or Downtown Disney Guest Services location.

For my upcoming trip, 4 weeks from today 4 adults, I listed all the places we will probably eat, based on past trips. I then went to the menus and listed what I thought each would order added in a desert for each person for lunch and dinner. Calculated what we would have to pay cash for and added the price of the dining plan.
I then took out half the desert and calculated the price with the TIW discount. TIW was $8 more, then I added the one thing no one has mentioned yet. The cost of the card, I think it is $75 now but could be wrong. Then the cost was TIW was $80 more than standard plan. And the deserts we cut out were probably going to be eaten anyway in the form of snacks so that adds more to the TIW price.
We are going during F & W and I know without the snack credits I would not be trying some of the items around the world. I am to money tight to waste it.
As stated above it all has to do with how you will eat, us we will have bagels or pastries in the morning, CS for Lunch, and late Sit down for dinner.
