Opinions on Nutrisystem?

Just my thought on the Lean Cuisine meals vs the Nutrisystem. I actually quite like the LC meals, however it should be noted that most of them are very carbohydrate based, pasta, rice or potatoes (not all, but a lot) Nutrisystem is pretty mush devoid of that, granted you get a taste in some meals, but on the whole it's that kind of carb light (I know there is a technical name for that type of carb, as opposed to the sugar kind) Soy seems to be the substitute (bleurgh) Now I love my pasta, rice and potatoes, and wonder if that is why I did manage to lose weight, as I was pretty much denied them (and a girl denied her carbs is not a pleasant girl either!) Which is probably why the Nutrisystem meals in my mind are really, really, really awful. Mind you all that processed food in the long run can't be good.

I have no idea why anyone PAYS to lose weight. All you have to do is take in fewer calories than you burn. That's it! It really is that simple.

So, either eat less or exercise more or do both. People who are very overweight tend to find that their appetites decrease when they exercise more.

Walking is free. So are push-ups, sit-ups and six inches. If you have a DVD/VCR, there are free workout tapes at the library. And if you have cable, Denise Austin (I love her) is on twice a day...she'll help remind you to "Squeeze those buns or noone else will!" :teeth:

Drink lots of water (eight 8 oz glasses daily) and take your vitamins. Try some Mrs. Dash instead of salt to avoid water retention.

Plus, when you start exercising, you'll find that you have more energy (OK, the first few days not so much, but quickly) and you feel better all the time. You sleep better, bowel movements are more regular. And you'l be all-around happier, too. I've heard it over and over.

Plus, you are doing your heart and bones big favors!!!

There. Now I saved you hundreds of dollars. The least you could do is send me a sawbuck. ;)

Good luck!!!

I should have probably put this in the first post, but I'm not really interested in life long weight loss right now... most just weight before the wedding. I'm bad I know :upsidedow
Once you start drinking all that water and doing all that exercise, you'll WANT to keep it up - you'll feel that good!

Give it a shot!

"It's worth it because you're worth it!!" I do Denise daily, but I have to turn off her talking sometimes because I want to kill her. :rotfl:

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/210425/are_diets_harming_your_health.html

"According to the University of California scientists, the constant "yo-yo" dieting that so many people employ to lose weight is quite dangerous.Yo-yo dieting has been linked to many health problems and are at an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, strokes and even premature death."

"Dr Beckie Lang, of the Association for the Study of Obesity, stated that, "Maintaining a healthy weight isn't about going on a diet and coming off a diet when you reach your target weight. It is about adopting skills that change your eating habits for life" (www.dailymail.co.uk)."

Have you tried low carb? You can start out with a large weight loss.

I tried nutri system for a month and just couldnt do it. I did lose 40 pounds in 3 months on Atkins a few years ago. I have started it again

I thank everyone for their opinions. It's all been taken into consideration.

I have to say, I laughed hysterically at "Just eat less than you burn" but since no one but maybe one person actually knows my situation health wise, I don't blame you for saying that.

And about the fad diet, it's not like I'd be going "Oh the wedding's over JUNK FOOD TIME!" and gorging myself. But I do need some thing to jump start me.

FH and I will continue to talk about it. But unhealthy attitude or not, right now I just want to lose the weight for the wedding. That's it. That's my goal. *shrugs*

Do you already have clothing in the sizes you might go down to? I think it's an extremely wasteful attitude to have to go through all those different sizes of clothing for one freakin' day.

If you want free, try Spark People (google it). I think it's as good as Weight Watchers.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought programs like NS, Jenny Craig and the like had a longer time and money commitment than just 5 months.

If your health situation is such that eating less calories will not help you lose weight, then you probably need to consult your doctor and I'm betting Nutrisystem wouldn't be their suggestion.

I pay for it for the convenience. When I work eveings, there aren't many food options available. Make my own dinner? Sure. Ooops, I forgot it in the fridge at home. What do I do? Order out. Now I have no idea what is in this food and how many calories I am consuming. Sparkpeople.com doesn't have anything from Fort Lee's pizza listed, so it's just a guess.

I have food here in my locker and food at home to get me through the month. i don't have to think about it at all. That's why I am paying for it now. I know I can do it with sparkpeople.com alone. But I have so much other stuff going on right now, that it's just easier for me.

Taking in fewer calories than you burn is of course the way you lose weight, However, it's not that easy for everyone to track. especially if you eat out a lot. While some restaurants do list their nutritional value, most of them don't. And if you're not eating at a chain restaurant, it's a guessing game, But you really don't know how much sugar they are throwing into their sauces or whatever.

This is my second time on Nutrisystem. I did really well on it the first time and for a few months afterwards. But then when DFi's father was dying, I began to eat emotionally and gained it back again.

When I am done with Nutrisystem I do plan on going back to sparkpeople.

My boss did it for about a month & honestly , when he was microwaving the meal at noon....the smell was discusting.:scared1:

Take the hints given here,,,,drink lots of water,,,,change your eating habits...move more-eat less.:confused3

Nutrisystem has no time or money commitment beyond your first order. I don't know about Jenny Craig.

Simple to say, but obviously not that simple to do for many people.

If you have health issues, you should speak to your doctor about losing weight and follow his suggestions.

You know, there really isn't any way to lose weight other than to take in less than you use.

Honestly, it doesn't sound like you really WANT to lose weight. Which is fine, you know - up to you! When you want it, you'll do it!!! It won't be easy, but you'll get it done. :)

Yes it is. I didn't say it was EASY. I know it is work. But it really IS simple.

Like I said above, there isn't any other way TO do it. Eat less than you use. Either diet your butt off or exerise or both. :)

And you don't have to pay anyone for either of those things. :)

Eat less than you use-exactly-programs like WW, Nutrisystem, etc help people do that. Doing things like this are dieting. So, if they help people succeed, why should anyone care if someone else is paying for it. It can be worth it to a lot of people.

Why would you laugh hysterically at anyone suggesting that you eat less than you burn:confused3

What do you think you will be doing on NutriSystem? You will be eating less, you know that, right:confused:

I DON'T care if people want to. I'm just saying that I don't understand why they do when it sooo isn't necessary.

If they want to, fine, hookairs.

I was just trying to help out the OP, who has posted about money problems and weight problems in the past. :)
