Since FH and I are getting married in 5 months, I'd like to lose some weight. Unfortunately we are both so busy with work for him and classes and work for me that we don't ever get to sit down and have dinner together. So we were both thinking about trying Nutrisystem instead.

Has anyone here had any success with this program? I like the structure of it a lot, since I'm a very structure oriented person. I've found when I don't have it I tend to stray lol. But, if it doesn't really work very well then we'll look towards doing something else.

I'd love to be able to make a healthy dinner every night, but it just doesn't seem to work out. I'm usually in class until early evening and then work right afterwards. At least I'd be somewhere with a microwave!

Thanks for any opinions you may have.

Very expensive and in my opinion the food is nasty.

I work FT and I'm in school FT, and find it fairly easy to throw together a nutritious meal. When I buy meat, I throw it in a marinade and freeze it, I keep potatoes and boil in a bag rice on hand, and steam in a bag frozen veggies. Takes me no time to cook when I get home from school (at 11pm mind you), and that way there's healthy food for DH and I the next day

I'm on my third month of Nutrisystem and down 12 pounds so far. I'd probably be down even further if I didn't take the weekends off.

On top of the food you get from NS, you need to have vegetables, salad, yogurt, cheese or whatever you choose as your dairy, protein etc. I keep bags of frozen veggies at work as well as at home.

I don't mind the food. Some of it is nasty, but other stuff is pretty good. You can choose what you want each month so that you don't get stuck with what you don't like.

I'm getting married in September too, and I am trying to figure out if I should quit NS in June like a planned, or continue until the wedding so that I don't balloon up and am not able to fit in my dress.

I've had a few friends who've done it. They lost weight as long as they were eating the plastic nutrisystem stuff. The all gained the weight back instantly when they went back to eating real food.

It's just my opinion, but the food is disgusting. BAD BAD BAD

On the comercials they act like oooo you get chocolate! The food is so good!

Lies.

I should have probably put this in the first post, but I'm not really interested in life long weight loss right now... most just weight before the wedding. I'm bad I know :upsidedow

I thought the Nutrisystem food was okay, but I have had better success by joining Weight Watchers. I like the meeting support, and the weekly weigh-ins make me accountable to someone else for my weight loss. On the WW Flex Points Plan, you can eat any food, as long as you keep track of your points. It's a good system. With Nutrisystem, I felt like I was out there trying to do it all on my own, and I wasn't very successful.

I have tried it. Kinda spendy, and the food SUCKS. It all tastes like cardboard to me and was inedible. I was also starving for the 3 weeks I did it. I lost only 8 lbs and gained it back immediately after I quit. Big thumbs down from me, but maybe someone has a success story like those skinnies on the commercials. I just want to strangle them, especially the one in the bikini that's like ' I'm a grandma!' Yea right....

Good luck anyway!
I'm doing low carb and have lost 6lbs in one week. Just a thought.

I wanted to strangle the one from the previous commercial that tugged at her skirt and said, "This is a size 2". :headache:

I tried nutrisystem for a month and was not a big fan. Some of the food was ok. However, I found with most of it was having to choke the food down. I was hungry /all/ the time. I only lost about 3 pounds total.

My huslband just tried it to the tune of 300 bucks. He has over half the food left I guess because it tasted bad. He generally will eat anything. I think it was a waste of money.

The food is awful. However I lost just under 30lbs in 3 months, I could do with losing more, but the food is really awful. My DH has lost about the same and is now within his ideal weight range. We have been off Nutrisystem for about 3 weeks now, I haven't put any weight back, but I haven't lost any more either. My DH is doing great too. By the way did I mention the food is really, really awful? To be fair it wasn't all completly bad, but you can only have the same thing so many times a week!!

I'm not sure how much you want to lose, but another post mentioned they only lost 8lbs in 3 weeks, which in my mind is pretty good going really. I hit a plateau around 3 weeks when I didn't lose much at all, actually none, I think your body adjusts. By the 6th week I started to lose again. It will slow down the closer you get to your ideal weight also. I had a good start, so I'm hoping I can continue with a balanced diet, portion control and some good old exercise and better tasting food!!

Honestly, this is a REALLY unhealthy attitude. Not just mentally, but physically.

I am serious, just going on a fad diet to lose weight before an event, knowing that you have no long term plans for a healthy lifestyle...bad, bad, bad idea. You will not only regain the weight, but studies have shown that you will probably add even more weight by the time you are done.

You really need to talk to your doctor about this, seriously. Losing weight is NOT about dieting, it's really about lifestyle.

I did it a long time ago...some of the food was ok and I lost 10 lbs in one month but honestly, you'd probably do just as well buying Lean Cuisine and snacking on fruits and veggies. :)

That's all NutriSystem is anyway...it seems to me that you have to supplement the main dish a *lot*. Hey, if you went the Lean Cuisine route, you wouldn't be locked into all that expense for food you probably won't like. At least with Lean Cuisine, you can go to the grocery store and pick out what appeals to you.

agnes!

I'll give you credit for being honest.

I've never tried it, but I've had good success with Weight Watchers.

I bet if you: drank only water during the week for your drink (and allowed yourself other things on the weekends), ate veggies before eating anything else, and watched your portions on every thing, you'd lose a good deal of weight before your wedding.

I didnt like the taste of the food. My friend Kelly did it and wasnt crazy about the food either but tried to stick it out for the 30 days of food she prepaid. Needless to say it all went to the trash on week 3

I know many people who love it though

I like to do WW and do the frozen meals from them and LC . I am down 12 lbs in 9 weeks it is slow but I didnt put it all on in a month either so I knew it would take me a bit to get rid of the chubs

I am losing weight too...I am not taking any supplements. This is what I do...I drink lots of water. I hate water, and when I first started I really had to force myself to drink it! I was addicted to diet coke and my goal was to drink 8 glasses of water a day before I would allow myself to drink a diet coke. I still don't love it, but it's not as hard anymore. It gives you a full feeling, esp. if you have a glass before each meal. I am not a big breakfast eater, so I usually just have a yoghurt for breakfast. For lunch, I have a Lean Cuisine. They are surprisingly good! I snack on baby carrots with fat free ranch throughout the day. For dinner, I usually have a salad with some chicken sliced in. I have lost 30lbs. since January!

Couldn't agree with you more! I remember my friends doing the massive quick diet routine before they got married. True they looked amazing but a few months after they stopped they gained it all back and then some. You have 5 months to do the weight loss "healthy" and not fad diet and honestly from posts you've said in the past you and your DF2B could use a lifestyle change. Not saying that to be mean...quite the opposite. I know how hard it is to lose it and how appealing those "fast fixes" look...but they won't help in the long run and could actually hinder you later! I say that will all due respect honestly!

You have weekends or some downtime I assume. *If I'm wrong about the assumption I apologize* but if you do make meals during the downtime that you can use during the week.

For instance on the Low Carb thread here earlier last week I was telling people about my dh who makes 5 omelets on Sunday in ziplocs to eat through the week for breakfast. It takes 5 min to put them together, 12 min to boil and a 30 second microwave heat up.

Use a few hours a weekend and make healthy, homemade meals for both of you that you can reheat. There are TONS of recipes out there that heat up well. Then you don't have to "think" about what to eat, it's healthy, nutritious and easy to heat. I've been in the school, work, kids routine so I know how hard it is.

Honestly though you want to look good for your wedding and I totally get that but instead of focusing short term...like until then focus lifetime long term. I think you'll both be happier in the end!
