OK-AGAINI am back to being not sure of where to stay. I am leary aobut staying off site when we go this time. (12-26 thru 1-2) and driving into the huge lines to get in to the parking lots! I think other time of the year it is no prbolem but we are going the BUSIEST WEEK Of THE YEAR-which in of itself scares me a bit. We have gone 2 other time in early August and it has been very crowded-so the whole busiest week of the year thing is a bit intimidating. We are going this week because of school/sports commitments and it is our kids surprise Christmas present this year and we are bringing my parents for their first visit ever. SO that being said I want this trip to be extra special (christmas/parents) I don't know if at this time of year it would be best to stay onsite for convience, tranportation etc but then decrease our accomadation size-help what do you think. We are considering DVC membership if we decide to stay on site so we would stay at SSR in a 2 bedroom suite-full kitchen, washer dryer, one bedroom with 2 queens for the kids-master for my parents (aren't we nice) and queen pull out for us.

I don't have any expert advice, but I would think that onsite would be better because of transportation. The entrance to the parks will most likely be jammed. Also, it the parks close, as a Disney resort guest, you will still be admitted.

We stayed offsite from 12/27-1/3 two years ago and had no problem with transportation. We did get to the parks when they opened though, which was at 8 am. We also went to AK for New Years Eve. Since that park wasn't open late we didn't worry about it filling to capacity. If you don't plan to get there when the parks open, or if you plan to go to one of the parks that has NYE festivities, I would stay on site.

Just so you know, sometimes the parks reach capacity. When they get close to that point, outside (day) guests are no longer allowed in. Resort guests are.

You might want to consider this.

Not wanting to be a wet blanket or anything, but just because you buy into DVC does not guarentee you will have accomodations available at Saratoga Springs (or for that matter at any DVC resort) that week. Xmas week wait lists are probably already pretty long. They have been selling points at SSR for a while now to members. Since the resort is new I don't know how they will work holiday reservations this year...they used to do a lottery thing at OKW for that week.

I would definately talk to your salesperson and get the scoop on how holidays will be handled because if you are buying in with your heart set on a Xmas week stay you could be terribly disapointed. (not to mention, left with no place to stay!) I don't think you can make reservations until you have closed on your DVC ownership so you are looking at several more weeks before you could reserve if you haven't completed the purchase yet, which means DVC members from other resorts would be able to make reservations already (they can make reservations at other resorts 6 months out)...and if you don't have reservations by then (6/26). I think you would very little if any chance of getting a 2BR for that week.

If you could get a reservation there it would be GREAT....being able to spread out and still be on site is the best possible option
The 2 BR's are lovely at all the other DVC resorts so I am sure SSR will be also.

You might try looking on the DVC board for info on how SSR will handle holiday reservations this year...OKW is our home resort...we tried 2 different years for holiday reservations and never "won" the lottery. They do it differently now, but we have not tried an Xmas visit in several years so I haven't paid much attention.

Good luck.
