You've been around here for 9 years, have almost 5000 posts. I'm guessing that maybe you have enjoyed your time here?
The board experiences a week or so of slowdown and you demand something gets done to speed it up? LOL
If you don't "Have that kind of time", why don't you just find another board to frequent?
Just curious.
Legitimate question! Here's the answer...first I didn't demand anything...I asked. I asked because Dis is a large board. I enjoy reading through and posting to these threads, but when there are hundreds of posts to see and it takes forever to have them come up, I get frustrated and go elsewhere. (as you suggested)
It isn't just the slowness it is also the way the site is configured. If I leave and try later...the site no longer allows me to come back to where I left off. Anytime after signing in, if I leave it all the posts in all departments are treated as read even though I haven't had the time to see them all. That is also when I haven't even clicked into that particular area. That makes the process even slower. That doesn't happen on other boards that I frequent, even some that is modeled after this one almost completely. Why? I don't know but to get through the large number of posts in one sitting is virtually impossible when it takes forever to upload to my computer.
Also this isn't a recent event...it has been happening for a few years now and by now a solution should have been in place. Yes, it is free and I appreciate that and frankly if it wasn't I wouldn't be here at all.
The other day I was attempting to post a reply and as usual I was going a little slowly because knowing how these boards go, I was trying to be accurate and clear. That sometimes means I have to reword things. Even then it gets misread or misunderstood many times. Anyway, by the time I was ready to post...it had cleared out my history and then lost my post completely. Everything was shown as read and I didn't know where I had left off or which ones I had looked at already. Again that just adds to the time it takes to participate on Dis.
Does that mean that I don't want to be a part of Dis? Apparently not or I wouldn't have asked that something be done to speed up the process a little. The delays experienced are just not happening on any other boards that I frequent. Yes, the volume of participation in the other boards is not the same as Dis, but if that trend is to continues then something needs to be done to relieve the frustration or it won't be as big as it is.
I hope that answers your question. Tonight they are moving along at a pretty good speed, but that is not always the case and more and more it is the opposite of what is happening.
