OMG...Could This Get Any Slower???

In addition to the problems already mentioned, I have to continually log in. Each time I post or want to see my subscribed threads, I have to log in again, and that has been slow as well. So posting takes forever!

i thought it was because so many people are on due to the holiday travel it takes so long i just click out and come back later the posts are all mixed up answers before the question!

Hey! Long time since I have seen YOU! I agree what's up with this site being so slow? We need to plan another meeting soon!

Yes Ma'am. I have been watching to see if anyone was going to set one up. Just got back from a quick trip on Friday. Let me know if anyone is thinking about setting another meet up.

I don't know the actual numbers but i suspect you (the collective you) would be surprised at the amount of traffic DIS gets in the course of a day. The forum slows down at peak times, just be patient they are in the process of testing new servers. It is very expensive to maintain a site like this and we do not get charged to be members. I would also suspect the sponsors barely cover the bills... So i am happy that the forum is available and do give a thanks to the webmasters, moderators and the owner. I am responsible for some of that slowness as i do use it (quite a lot) though out the day plus have turned on many new members to DIS. The site is ranked 10,500 in the world and 2,600 in the united states. That is quite high with the millions of websites available in the world. http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/disboards.com

Wow - I've not really experienced anything anyone here is talking about and come out here every single day. Maybe we are living in the "that was so 12 seconds ago" era?

I love the Dis Boards and I have lived for *gasp* a week without and I have survived. I think everyone can for an hour to two or maybe even a day. It will still be there and the world will still spin.

People want new servers but how to pay for that? Then some will complain about a subscription or ads or more something in order to pay for the site. How about for everyone who has a problem, pony up a donation and send it in?

I'm just saying these glitches are bothering me. I've gone a week without DISBoards before, and I am okay. I'm just saying, that's all. We aren't talking about DISBoards, we are talking about the glitches and slowness. :) by the way, everyone, I am not trying to start ANYTHING. So do not break out the popcorn. HAHA!

Hey. Is it just more, or DISBoards back to normal? The time seems to be okay, and my post that I just did wasn't out of order.

I'm sure it doesn't help that most peoples signatures are loaded with pictures and animations. :scared1:

You are lucky to have not experienced it. That does not mean other people have not had legitimate problems and it is not related to a "so 12 seconds ago era.".

The boards seem pretty snappy right now (1239 CST -- we'll see what it posts as!) but they were like pulling wisdom teeth last night.

I have always found the DIS to be a bit on the slow side. I guess it is a matter of growing popularity. I just try to hang in there and not get too frustrated. I have found that if I leave it alone for a few days/weeks and come back it sometimes is quicker.

To Whom it may concern:

I love this site, but, frankly I cannot stay with it very long when it takes 2 minutes to click on a topic...another 10 to post a reply...and then another 2 minutes to get back to the Threads. Please do something to speed this process up. I don't have that kind of time.

You've been around here for 9 years, have almost 5000 posts. I'm guessing that maybe you have enjoyed your time here?

The board experiences a week or so of slowdown and you demand something gets done to speed it up? LOL

If you don't "Have that kind of time", why don't you just find another board to frequent?

Just curious.

I guess I missed the part where someone was demanding something. :confused3

You can always do what I did...

Legitimate question! Here's the answer...first I didn't demand anything...I asked. I asked because Dis is a large board. I enjoy reading through and posting to these threads, but when there are hundreds of posts to see and it takes forever to have them come up, I get frustrated and go elsewhere. (as you suggested)

It isn't just the slowness it is also the way the site is configured. If I leave and try later...the site no longer allows me to come back to where I left off. Anytime after signing in, if I leave it all the posts in all departments are treated as read even though I haven't had the time to see them all. That is also when I haven't even clicked into that particular area. That makes the process even slower. That doesn't happen on other boards that I frequent, even some that is modeled after this one almost completely. Why? I don't know but to get through the large number of posts in one sitting is virtually impossible when it takes forever to upload to my computer.

Also this isn't a recent event...it has been happening for a few years now and by now a solution should have been in place. Yes, it is free and I appreciate that and frankly if it wasn't I wouldn't be here at all.

The other day I was attempting to post a reply and as usual I was going a little slowly because knowing how these boards go, I was trying to be accurate and clear. That sometimes means I have to reword things. Even then it gets misread or misunderstood many times. Anyway, by the time I was ready to post...it had cleared out my history and then lost my post completely. Everything was shown as read and I didn't know where I had left off or which ones I had looked at already. Again that just adds to the time it takes to participate on Dis.

Does that mean that I don't want to be a part of Dis? Apparently not or I wouldn't have asked that something be done to speed up the process a little. The delays experienced are just not happening on any other boards that I frequent. Yes, the volume of participation in the other boards is not the same as Dis, but if that trend is to continues then something needs to be done to relieve the frustration or it won't be as big as it is.

I hope that answers your question. Tonight they are moving along at a pretty good speed, but that is not always the case and more and more it is the opposite of what is happening.

As if to punctuate this point, when I posted that last reply and I went back to the topic list, guess what? Everything had been marked as read and I hadn't even left the site at all. Don't tell me that's not a problem that can't or shouldn't be fixed.

Actually, i have had this happen also. I'm wondering if that may not be the way the browser is handling the cookies from the site? I know my fav truck forum will do the same thing (also vBulletin). It will mark everything read while i haven't been to the site earlier that day... I am not up on how websites work now a days to offer a suggestion. I would send an email to the webmaster and let them know. I love DIS but in reality it has been funky lately...

Mine tends to mark everything as UNREAD sometimes.

I just wish that the boards wouldn't log me out every few minutes. I have to log in nearly every time I want to respond to a thread, and then of course everything is set to "read". *:headache:
