OLD THREAD: 2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 2- May, June and July DON'T POST HERE!

Heading out tomorrow for 3 nights at Beach Club before our cruise. I'm so excited for this first stay I could bust!

Now I just have to pack...

Just booked for 6 days at the Yacht Club last week in September with a friend from work! She hasn't been to Disney in over 20 years, can't wait for the start of the F&W and to stay here for the first time :goodvibes

Welcome vettegirl! :hippie:
If you want to give your dates we'll add you to the Guest List on page 1.

I don't blame you! I would be getting to burst too! :)

You're going to LOVE the BC! Have a wonderful time and there and a fabulous cruise!:thumbsup2

Thanks. I'm going to ask the doctor about the splints at night and maybe he'll get them for me. And I NEVER go barefoot ... my doctor has me in orthotics at work and Crocs at all other times even if I wake up during the night to hit the bathroom. I do the stretch stuff too.

I'm just really nervous about going the surgery route since he said it's no guarantee ... sometimes it works and sometimes not. To be out of work 2 months for something I'm not sure will work doesn't sound feasible.

Teena did you see my post about the Topaz surgery I had on my heel. It's really easy, twilight sedation, in and out of outpatient in under 2 hours, had it on Friday and back to work on Tuesday. No PT, No cast, No major invasive cuts. It's much simpler. I posted a page or two back. I'd really talk to your ped about that route if he thinks it might help you, before you commit to the more invasive form of surgery.

I hope you don't mind that I piggy back on your post, but I would love to hear some thoughts on the patio rooms. We have a standard view. Is there patio rooms with a standard view?

I have requested a full balcony for the extra space when the kids are in bed, but a patio would seem to work as well. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

i dont know if there are patio rooms with a standard view or not. We had garden view and I was surprised at what a great view we had of the beach and lighthouse. I had requested a full balcony but when we arrived at 10 am we were told the room was ready and it had a patio. I had not even thought about a patio but sounded good to me. I loved the location , not far from the marketplace. It was very private... only once did i see anyone else on their patio. My sister was concerned it might be noisy but I didnt find it bad. The night we were in the room when the movie was playing on the beach we could hear it.

I'm still here. A little north, but still here.

Regarding EBCI with SW. When we fly to Disney and there's 4 or 6 of us, we usually only pay for DH and DSIL for EBCI and they save our seats next to them!:rolleyes1 No one would want to sit next to them anyways! :lmao:

Curious about doing this. We have 11, but one family of three is on their own regarding seats because they did not want to pay the EBCI fee. Out of our 8 left I got 5EBCI hoping we can just save the extra 3seats. I hate breaking rules so am stressing about it, but worst case we will be a little scattered.

That's the type of surgery he was talking about. He said if I worked a desk it wouldn't be any recovery time out of work at all but because I'm on my feet 8-10 hours straight I'd probably have to stay out two months. He never mentioned Topaz but he said it was under two hours and non-invasive and I wouldn't be knocked out. But I'll ask him about it for sure in two weeks at my appointment. Thanks so much for the info!!

I'm not really sure it would be considered breaking rules because it says right on their website not every member of the reservation has to purchase EBCI. We are all on one reservation and we only bought 2. :confused3

Either way, I always do check in right at the 24 hour mark so the rest of our party is pretty close to the front of the line too!

Hello everyone, been lurking on this thread for a while so thought I'd introduce myself :goodvibes

I'm not sure if this was mentioned anywhere in this long thread, but I looked in the first few posts and didn't see it (but I do have wedding brain so who knows ;)) Can you bring any floating devices, besides noodles, into the pool?

HEY, that last post was #500 for me...I am now an official DIS Veteran!:cool1:

:thumbsup2

It is funny how it works out. A few years ago my family had connecting rooms at the Poly as our most important request. We also wanted a balcony but none were available if we wanted to keep our room request so we were offered a patio. Humph! Took it but was not happy. What a wonderful surprise the rooms assignment was! I think I would take patio over balcony at teh Poly anytime!

Surgery is never an easy decision so i hope that you find some relief!

WE also requested a balcony. I worry about patio with standard view so any feedback is welcomed!

Booked our airfare today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh! That's good to know. I didn't realize it said that. I had originally purchased just 2 EBCI, but then added 3 more because I worried it would be difficult to save 8 seats. I feel better now! Thanks.

My understanding is that besides the provided inner tubes and noodles, and possibly water wings for toddlers, there are no other floating devices allowed. My kids always had pool toys, but they loved SAB so much I never heard them complain about it one bit,

That's the type of surgery he was talking about. How terrible that you are dealing with this, Teena...

Here! Landed at 7 pm. We were delayed at airport in Boston. Arrived at resort at 8:30. Pizza some pool time and info meeting.
Today is class at magic kingdom then resort break. Probably Epcot tonight. Have a great day all!

Glad you have arrived-wish I was trundling around epcot with your gang of teens rather than sitting here watching the rain:)

Teena-I hope you get some relief soon. Cant imagine how sore you must be at the end of your work day but I do hope you can continue greeting people as your love for it shines through when you talk about it here. Crossing my fingers that you get something sorted without having to resort to surgery:)

Teena -- My x-rays didn't reveal heel spurs, but I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in both feet. I understand the treatment for spurs and PF are very similar. The main things that helped me (and continue to help) were: 1) never go barefoot, even in the house (this was hard for me). I bought a good pair of sneakers to only wear indoors and a good pair of supportive slippers (see Orthaheel's website) -- I also wear sneakers out and about more and rarely wear flip-flops (hard habit to break!); and 2) stretching A LOT. I stretch before getting out of bed, and a little while later and then probably 2-3 other times during the day. Even though I don't have heel pain anymore, my feet just aren't the same. I could totally tell that if I were to stop my routine, PF would come back. For me, I actually felt the orthotics made it worse. Also, I did wear a night splint (and a day splint) for about a 2-3 week period. One last thing I did for about 2 weeks, I soaked my feet in ice water (per my podiatrist) every night for about an hour -- 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Sorry that was so long, but I just wanted to give you some ideas since I remember how miserable I was. Hope it gets better for you soon. :goodvibes

I also have developed plantar fasciitis. Your post sounds just like me....no more cute sandals, no more bare feet in the house. Which I loved! Stretching every morning and whenever I think of it during the day going up and down stairs - great stretch. My indoor slipper-shoes are now Stegman's and my sandals are now Naot's.

Thanks. I'm going to ask the doctor about the splints at night and maybe he'll get them for me. And I NEVER go barefoot ... my doctor has me in orthotics at work and Crocs at all other times even if I wake up during the night to hit the bathroom. I do the stretch stuff too.

Oh Teena- I really hope you feel better soon. Also, Aravon shoes have been recommended to me and these seem to give great support. Take care, hope you do not need surgery.

Clear inner tubes are permitted but they must be clear. Noodles are permitted. Life vests can be borrowed from the boat docks (possibly) if needed. Floatations devices can be rented but later in the day you may just find them laying around.

I'm pretty sure Dee has this covered in the FAQ section but I'm sure you are busy with the last minute plans. Congratulations on the upcoming wedding. I hope it all goes better than planned.

There are life jackets that you can borrow. You need to bring your room key to the desk and they'll sign them out to you. They don't cost anything but you have to return them every day. They have them in a variety of sizes.

I've been reading this thread for info. We are going back to WDW October 2013 for Food and Wine Festival and I would like to try either the Beach Club or Yacht Club. We usually stay at the Poly and have also tried BW and WL.
