OLD THREAD: 2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 2- May, June and July DON'T POST HERE!

I actually asked one of the managers if I could do my job in a wheelchair or scooter and they said no. So, since I don't want to give up my greeter job, this foot better get fixed. Has anybody dealt with heelspurs here with any luck? The $500 orthotics that took two months to make haven't helped, then the oral medication to help the swelling didn't help, the cortisone shot in my heel Thursday didn't help. He wants me back in two weeks for another shot which hurt soooo bad he better convince me a second one might do more than the first (which did nothing) or that's not happening. Bob wants me to just quit the job since my heel doesn't bother me until I work and then only after 3 hours or so ... then it starts acting up and by 4 hours I have to hit the pills. Man it's a pain getting old!

I had a heel spur on my left heel. The orthotics they made me had a hollowed out area under the spur filled with a gel. This took the pressure off the spur. I stand all day at work too. It wasn't an instant fix, but it did take the pressure off and the heel spur did go away with time.
Good luck, I know how painful they can be.

Here! Landed at 7 pm. We were delayed at airport in Boston. Arrived at resort at 8:30. Pizza some pool time and info meeting.
Today is class at magic kingdom then resort break. Probably Epcot tonight. Have a great day all!

Come on along! I only used 3 of our 4 allowed bags (I probably could have gotten away with 2, but a gal's gotta have her shoes :rolleyes1)

LOL! I love my shoes too!

I have not flown SW since EBCI has been an option. I did not select it. Am I going to be sorry? There are 4 of us but our girls are teens so we can break up into 2 groups of 2. I will get boarding passes ASAP. Can I add the EBCI now? How much is it? We have a plane change both ways do we have to pay for each leg of the flight?

I asked my DD if we needed it and she said she did not use it. She just makes sure to check in at the 24 hour mark.

Now, see, 8pm is a perfect time for our family. We regularly eat that late or later!

As a matter of fact, about an hour after I made the ADRs, DH came home from work and I told him what we had. He seemed less than thrilled with Boma's :(, and then he expressed dismay that we couldn't get Rose & Crown. (Before I knew that it was a matter of the tables not being opened yet). He then asked about Ohana, which we'd done as our "parents' night out" when we last went. I told him I thought it would be a good idea to mix things up and that's why I picked Boma, which was similar. He replied, "Actually, the only two I was really hoping for was Rose & Crown and Ohana. I really enjoyed them both last time."

Incidentally, I'm very happy with the concierge so far--their response times have been wonderfully fast!

We always try for an 8 pm at 'Ohana. So far we have always enjoyed marvelous timing with the fireworks display.

The IPO has been working miracles for us as well. My family requested 'Ohana and R&C and all refuse Boma. I liked it but I was the only one in my group.

My family is hoping to be able to get into Be Our Guest if it opens in time for our trip. We talked to the IPO and was told that while they have no information yet they do check for availability for all requests every day so they have added it to our wish list. :flower3:

Teena- I have no answers for bone spurs but have heard they are very painfull.

Good Morning, Dee! Glad you arrived safely! I flew into Boston yesterday morning from Cleveland, and we had to circle around a bit due to the stormy weather..Wow was it bumpy!

To Everyone else arriving this week, HAVE FUN! I am so jealous....:)

I'm flying out on SW today too (but not to Disney yet). I always use the Early Bird now that it's available and I've always gotten an A boarding pass. I just find it so worth the extra $10 to not have to worry about being online at the 24 hour mark. And since we don't pay for bags on SW, I don't mind paying the $10.

WDW4us2006 - welcome to Boston. Funny that you are arriving here as Dee and I are leaving town. LOL

In a subsequent email, the Concierge CM said exactly that...they hadn't "dropped" the tables yet because of the Candlelight Processional. So I'm hopefully we'll get it!

As for Be Our Guest, I didn't realize they were putting a restaurant in there. Since B&TB is my favorite Disney movie, there is clearly some research that I must do, lol!
I hope you get it too. I think you have a great chance. I book my ADRs next week. If Coral Reef opens up, I'll let you know.

I'm really looking forward to the Be Our Guest Restaurant. It's my favorite movie too. Here's a link to some info. about it... http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2011/12/13/disney-worlds-be-our-guest-restaurant-to-open-in-late-2012/

Have fun! Do you have to attend the classes with the students? Or is that free time?

I too have a bone spur- I have the inserts for my shoes with the hollowed out part. I was told to wear the inserts from the time I got up to the time I went to bed. It took awhile but it did make a difference. It sucks though not being able to wear sandals. If I don't wear the inserts, the pain does start to come back.

Got back late last night from our sisters adventure to the Beach Club. Just wanted to thank everyone on this thread for the great info. Loved the Beach Club especially the amazing location. We had a first floor patio rm 1581- Garden view but had a view of the beach and light house. I just couldnt get over the location- I timed my walk from the room to Epcot.... 6 mins at a leisurely pace.

Ocalla- It was great meeting you..... also a first for me meeting someone from the boards.

Also got to say hi to Teena in the lobby.

I cant say enough about this great resort.... do feel more than a little guilty that I didnt bring my son. I'll have to plan another trip soon.

Thanks again all- I learned so much from this thread that really helped make our trip special.

Glad to hear you had a great trip! We have also requested a 1st floor room, WV, near the lobby. How did you find the 1st floor rooms, patios, shubbery in front, privacy and ease of getting around?

thanks!!

Teena -- My x-rays didn't reveal heel spurs, but I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in both feet. I understand the treatment for spurs and PF are very similar. The main things that helped me (and continue to help) were: 1) never go barefoot, even in the house (this was hard for me). I bought a good pair of sneakers to only wear indoors and a good pair of supportive slippers (see Orthaheel's website) -- I also wear sneakers out and about more and rarely wear flip-flops (hard habit to break!); and 2) stretching A LOT. I stretch before getting out of bed, and a little while later and then probably 2-3 other times during the day. Even though I don't have heel pain anymore, my feet just aren't the same. I could totally tell that if I were to stop my routine, PF would come back. For me, I actually felt the orthotics made it worse. Also, I did wear a night splint (and a day splint) for about a 2-3 week period. One last thing I did for about 2 weeks, I soaked my feet in ice water (per my podiatrist) every night for about an hour -- 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Sorry that was so long, but I just wanted to give you some ideas since I remember how miserable I was. Hope it gets better for you soon. :goodvibes

Thanks. I'm going to ask the doctor about the splints at night and maybe he'll get them for me. And I NEVER go barefoot ... my doctor has me in orthotics at work and Crocs at all other times even if I wake up during the night to hit the bathroom. I do the stretch stuff too.

I'm just really nervous about going the surgery route since he said it's no guarantee ... sometimes it works and sometimes not. To be out of work 2 months for something I'm not sure will work doesn't sound feasible.

So glad you had a great trip and that you love the resort.

That is so scary! And a long recovery. Let's just hope something works before you get to that point. I'm so sorry you are dealing with this.:sad2:

Am I the only one left in Boston now?

A

I'm still here. A little north, but still here.

Regarding EBCI with SW. When we fly to Disney and there's 4 or 6 of us, we usually only pay for DH and DSIL for EBCI and they save our seats next to them!:rolleyes1 No one would want to sit next to them anyways! :lmao:

I hope you don't mind that I piggy back on your post, but I would love to hear some thoughts on the patio rooms. We have a standard view. Is there patio rooms with a standard view?

I have requested a full balcony for the extra space when the kids are in bed, but a patio would seem to work as well. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!
