Just booked a studio @ OKW for Oct. ! Is there a food court area? Do they have refillable mugs? How is Olivias? What is a good building to request? We would like a quiet location, but convienent to pool. Also, how often do the boats run to Downtown Disney? What kind of family activities do they offer, we have a 6yo. ds? How is there bus transportation to the parks? Any tips or advise?? Thanks for any input! :bounce: :bounce:

Jacksmom good choice. First there is not food court, OKW is considered a home away from home. There is olivias which does have take out. There is also a small outside pickup/take out window. I'm not sure on mugs, I do remember they had mugs which you could refil for a discounted price. The main pool is very plain, no slide, but nice. The overe all resourt is very quite. They do have daily activities for kids. The boat to DD starts running at 9:00am and I believe every 1/2 hour.

Have a great trip.

No food court but there is a small outside spot where you can grab a sandwich or hot dog. No refillable mugs, you have your own small refrig in the studio, there is a ice machine at all the bus stops. All spots at OKW are quiet and all are near a pool. There are 4 pools. The boat to DD starts running at 12 noon and runs every 20 minutes. Every pool area has a laundy at it also. I rate the bus service as poor but most people don't notice that. You should enjoy the OKW area. Olivias is ok but not a gourmet dinning area that is for sure. The food is ok.

OKW now have the refill mugs for the length of stay only - OKW changes it mug often - silly I think! I think it is $10.00 maybe $9.50.

I like building 55 - it is close to a quiet pool - but far away from the other noise - but that also means it is far away from the HH - so you might like build 11 -14 or the building 62-64 (these are the only ones with elevators)

when you check in - look on the back on the resort map for the activities list - if nothing is listed - ask the CM who is checking you in - sometimes they don't print enough of them out.

Do you like gardening - OKW has a gardening tour at 9:00 am on Wednesday - very good!!!

from building 55 you can walk to DD (west side) in a few minutes around 10 to 15 minutes.

There are five bus stops at OKW with the Hospitality House being the last stop. We have never had any problems with getting the bus to the parks. You probably want to ask for a water view or close to pool. The Old Turtle Pond Pool is pretty nice and has a food area that is open seasonally.

Olivia's has great breakfast, very good lunch and pretty good dinners. I love all their sandwiches.

The boat to DD stops running about 9:40PM. It's not very big, only holds about 11 people on a run.

If you don't need a handicapped room, make sure you list that as one of your first requests; also non-smoking if that is important. We have usually gotten our requests as long as we make them general - non-smoking, water view, etc.

You 6 yr old will have a great time. They have all sorts of activities at the Community Hall, games, crafts, etc. No slide at the pools, but they are all nice pools.

Don't forget that you have access to free washer and dryer near the pool. You just have to share it with all the other studio people. When we stay in a studio, I get up early (6 or so) and get a load or two done before the rest of the family gets up.

You can also rent the surrey bikes at OKW and they are cheaper and much easier to ride that BW since you don't have all the hills.

Just wanted to add that we were there for the first time last week in a studio and I can't say enough good things about the room, the resort, the buses, the food...oh, my, stop me! I could go on forever. Hope you have as wonderful a time as we did. :)

I forgot will you have a car? - if so PO - is right next door - less than 10 minutes from the back of old OKW - from miller road maybe 5 minutes if that long. So you can use their food court.

If you need to walk - then definitely try to get on Miller's road - then you can walk through the service parking lot and either go through the woods (I don't like snakes so I don't go this route) or walk through the grass at the entrance and go that way to POFQ then you can either use the food court at POFQ or walk to POR.

If your DS is still into bedtime stories (I think my DS was at that age) they have story time in the community hall. The kids wear their PJ's and bring pillows. DD had just turned 3 on our trip last year. She can't wait to do it again.
