OKW-No Car-Bus to the room!

Been to several resorts and the last 3 or 4 times have not had a car. We take ME to the resort and our luggage trails behind. They deliver our bags to our room, but we've always hopped the Dis bus to our stop. Didn't realize that it was even an option to catch a ride there, nor has it ever been offered.

That would be nice, as sometimes we've walked because we weren't sure of where the bus actually stopped with a couple of little munchkins!!!

Ok... its been awhile since we owned our DVC,,, but do I understand they no longer haul you and your luggage to your room on the golf cart????
If you read the OP, she asked for and was given a ride to her room. I'm kinda baffled at what the big deal is.

When I checked into SSR this past October, the CM told me that if I went out to bell services they could give me ride, I could catch a bus (just me 1 roller bag) or walk as it wasn't that far. It was nice out (not too hot) so I started walking. I got as far as the crosswalk by the bus stop when a CM pulled up and asked if I wanted a ride.:cool1: Worked for me as it turns out it was hotter than I thought once I got into the sun! LOL!

No, that's not true. We just returned from OKW two weeks ago, and we saw folks getting transported to their rooms everyday on the carts.

I didn't think I was asking too much, really. The resort was not busy and there didn't appear to be anyone waiting for a ride to their room. Both the desk CM and the bell services CM said I needed to catch a bus. It's not that I was "miffed", I was just surprised. I didn't care where my luggage was, I knew ME had it and it would show up eventually. Walking really wasn't an option as they put me if the furthest area away from the lobby. I don't mean to appear lazy and selfish, I was tired. It had been a long day. I just wanted to get to my room.

The main point of my post was to ask if this was standard procedure. Since some of you have stated that you've been given rides to you room, I am assuming it's not.

I wasn't offered a ride the first time I asked. She directed me to another bus stop where the internal buses come every 10 minutes. So I decided to go eat before going to my room. After I returned from dinner, I asked her if my luggage had arrived yet and if it would be possible to hitch a ride to the room with my luggage. She then offered me the ride. The driver dropped me off, then went back to get my luggage.

Glad it all worked out for you at the end! :goodvibes

I have a feeling that perhaps all the carts were unavailable when you originally checked in? And the CM didn't give you the option to wait for one since she didn't know when they would be available and so didn't want to make any promises?

SMART move on your part to have a meal first! :thumbsup2

We also arrived at 8:00 p.m. and the check-in was easy and not busy at all
we did have to "lug" our luggage(is that where the name comes from?) to the
room(which was close to the HH), but I'm sure if we had asked, they would
have "carted" us over. It wasn't busy at the time. All the times we've stayed
at SSR, we've always been "carted" without asking. However, we were always
in Congress Park which is quite a ways from Registration. The key, I guess, is
to ask. If you don't ask, you don't get. :thumbsup2

Yep, you have to ask. I've never asked because DH likes to handle things himself. What is it? Male pride?

This is not true. I just called the front desk at OKW. They still take people to their villa with the service carts. The person I spoke to said that during the busier check in times, sometimes the carts are all in use and the guest might have to wait awhile to get a ride. She thinks the person was told to catch the bus so that they would not have to wait. I think it is better to contact the source on this than to stew about it in endless posting. Hope this helps.

Thanks for this info:thumbsup2

I'm glad they still do it. At SSR in May a cm drove us to the room...
We do pick up our own luggage though....

Best part about it is the CM gives you a little tour and must have info
about the property.

We will be arriving at OKW with my luggage in April....and I will
be requesting a ride.

.....Fortunately, a very understanding CM at bell services was able to get me a ride, after I asked if I could catch a ride over with my luggage.

Don't forget this part when you send your letter -- and when you remember the episode.

On our last trip we ultimately found we preferred not to use the car and take the buses. But I must say i preferred the car to get to HH.

For those reading this thread that haven't been to WDW yet, IT GETS EVEN WORSE! They make you walk at the parks! This walking makes the resort walking look like a leisurely stroll to the mailbox! :rotfl2:
Now that is just funny!! :rotfl:

Just wanted to add a little late......
my most recent experience at OKW was this past summer and we did see people getting cart rides to their room.
I just returned a few weeks ago from PO and saw people getting rides their too.
