We will be staying at OKW in June 2005. I read on another thread that you can book massages at OKW. Can anyone tell me if this is true? And if it is how can I book one?

Thank you in advance.
Debra

Massages are offered at Slappy Joes at the resort and may be reserved thru the recreation desk at the resort.

or over at the community hall.

the rooms are private - or you can have one done in your resort room - I think it is only $20 extra????

Great Question Debra!

How do they compare to a massage @ the spa? We I went to the spa they had the lights dim, candles lit, room very cozy.

Can anyone comment?

I got a massage at OKW 2 years ago. It was the BEST massage I ever received.

Last year, I got a massage at AKL and it was terrible.

We plan on going back to OKW in 2006 and I plan on getting another massage when we arrive.

I haven't had a massage at any of the WDW resorts (planning to on my trip this January). But I can say that I have had many a massage, and I don't think you can assume that just because you had a great one at OKW that it will be as good as the last one you had there. I have gone to the same massage place and gotten different people doing the massage and the differences between individuals is great. When I find someone I really like I make sure to ask for that person every time. It's also an individual thing, my sister HATES deep massages and I LOVE them, so great to you may be not great to me and vice versa.

So it's quite possible that you'd get a great massage at AKL if someone else did it. Conversely it's possible you'll get a not-so-great massage at OKW for the same reaon. Hopefully you'll luck out, but I wouldn't assume the resort makes the difference, my experience is that it's the individual doing it that really counts.

Hope it works out well for you in 2006 (and for me this January!, LOL)

From what I understand from a recreation CM at OK, the massages at OKW have changed. My sister & I looked into a massage at OKW last year & thought the prices were competitve to what we can pay at home. Unfortunately we ran out of time. This past May I wanted to plan time for a massage & found out they are now done through the massage place at SSR & that the prices had gone up.

::sigh:: you are so right about finding a person and wanting to stick with him/her. I had THE BEST therapist, (Jerome at Rennaissance Chancery Court wherefore art thou?) and he left and they won't tell me where he's gone! :(

My experiences have been at The Spa at Disney Institute and GF. DI was the best place to go. The GF spa had nothing on compared to that - not a speck of organization or even atmosphere as compares to DI. DI spa staff were Disney employees and I think that made a difference. Is that still true for SSR?

A massage alone is all well and good, but I need the whole 10 yards, candles, smelly stuff, steam bath, whirpool... If the OKW massage at Slappy Joes has positive reviews from this post I may consider it.

Looking forward to reading any info.

dh and I get a massage every time we stay at OKW (or at least when we have our regular week long vacation and stay there:) )
. Ask for Allison Andrews - she's the best! It's our favorite part of vacation and worth every penny!!:teeth:

so Allison will still do a massage at OKW - I will not have to go to SSR???

As likes and dislikes regarding massages can vary from person to person I am wondering if you could tell us why you like Allison so much. If she does nice deep massages I will definitely ask for her.

Thanks to everyone for the Slappy Joe's info. I linked you all to a website that I THOUGHT had all the spas/massage info at WDW, but Slappy Joe's isn't listed there (I wonder why?). It sounds like a great place, I'm gonna check it out in January for sure.

Call Saratoga Springs which is next door. They have the best Spa on property and there is a DVC discount.

I received this email recently:

I just wanted to let you know that I have opened my own office in Kissimmee Florida. It's about a 20 minute drive from Disney and well worth the trip. I'm charging $65 for my 70 minute hot stone massage. Saratoga Springs is charging around $165 for a similar massage. For a great massage at a reasonable price please contact me the next time your coming to Orlando. To book your massage call 407-247-9889 or e-mail me at aandrews4@cfl.rr.com
Hope to see you again.

I just wanted to Thank each one of you for all your responds. Maybe I can book one while we are there in June. I had one at GF the last time I was there and I loved it but wanted to try this one because it was right here.

Has anyone had one at SSR? Are they any better?

Maybe I will just book one at OKW and just lay back and enjoy it.

Thank you all.
Debra

Can't wait to get there.

Just wanted to mention that we were just at OKW and were told that the massages were no longer available there. They have been moved to Saratoga Springs. The guy tried to explain it to me...something about the people who have the rights to the spa services and their new facility at SSR....

Anyway, it was a bummer. DH had a massage at SSR and it was $88 per 50 minutes. That's with the 20% discount currently available. (normally $110) That's almost double what we pay around here at home, and he said it was nothing special. But relaxing, of course.

It was a nice treat for him. But we were a bit disappointed that you had to leave the resort for it, and we found it to be a bit pricey.

If I have to leave OKW, and if SSR is not as nice as DI was, (i fear the worst since apparantly it is not owned by disney), I may go check out the Ritz. Surely they have a nice spa!! ::yes::

I was just so totally unimpressed with so many things at GF, that I worry if that same company now runs SSR, service and ambiance will be drastically different than it was with DI. Truthfully - if I'd gone to GF first, I may have found it to be wonderful. I'm sure DI spoiled me!

Thanks for sharing this info from your recent trip. Those are numbers I seem to remember - prices increased quite a bit.

I have had a few different people for massages at OKW over the years and Allison was the person I liked best - dh as well. A woman named Pekar comes to mind - I hurt after she finished - it hurt while I was getting my massage:eek: Some people have too rough a touch I guess and Allison I always felt relaxed and enjoyed the massage before during and after.;)
