OKW is cheaper in points

It was the first DVC resort, and really an "experiment." Disney had no idea how well a Disney timeshare would be received by the public, and they made the point charts attractive to those early buyers. But, once made, overall points for the resort can not change, though it can be readjusted within a points chart, this happened in 1996 at OKW, Originally Studio value season was 69 points a week, it is now 80, but the points also decreased slightly in other parts of the chart.

And OKW is still a great resort. WE will definitely be going back there.

It is a Condo style resort, so like SSR, there is no valet parking or in-room dining service.

As far as "is it as nice" it really depends upon your personal tastes. Some peope prefer the Hotel style DVCs, others prefer the Condo style DVC, where you can park close to your unit. Personally, I love OKW, and don't really care to stay at a hotel style resort. I like the two real queen beds in the studios at OKW, and the very roomy 1 bedrooms with huge whirlpool tub.

I think it's better than the newer ones. Those rooms are too small. The washer and dryers are stackables instead of full size, side by side at OKW. The porches/balconies are way smaller compared to OKW. Full sized kitchen vs galley style kitchen. Icemaker in the refrigerator instead of just ice cube trays like the others.

I have stayed at BCV and OKW. I must say, I prefer OKW. The rooms are much, much larger and the balcony is TDF! We ate breakfast out there each morning and loved it. The rooms look a little outdated but that's only decor. The room we stayed in was very clean. When we were purchasing DVC, I knew my DH would prefer OKW over all others because it has a more "relaxed" feel. We ended up buying SSR because the incentives were too good to pass up.

Are you considering a purchase?

We own at BCV but we have actually stayed at OKW almost as often as BCV. We LOVE the HUGE 1BRs and the atmosphere is so laid back. Plus, the lower points are a MAJOR PLUS too. We currently have a 4-night res at BCV in Oct. but I'm switching at 7 mos. to OKW. Then when we switch, I can actually add an additional night because the points are so much cheaper!

I am buying points at both as I cannot decide which one I like best...DH hasn't stayed at OKW yet but he will like the beds better...I like BCV for proximity reasons and I like hotels...but I like Olivia's at OKW and riding bikes....so while some people may prefer condos and some people may prefer hotels ...I seem to prefer both!! ...figures ..I always want everything...

We are going in October and staying at the SSR.. but worried that the bus system wouldn't be good for us... Is the bus system better at OKW?

I've never had a major problem with the busses at OKW. There are 5 bus stops spread conveniently throughout the resort. I think the bus service is on par with any other Disney resort, they will all have days of less than spectacular service.

We own at SSR but prefer to stay at OKW because of the size of the rooms and the relatively low point costs.

For example, we are staying in a 1BR at OKW from 12/29/08 til 1/10/09 for 306 points. During that same time frame, a 1BR at BCV is 387 points. While it is certainly a matter of personal preference, I prefer to save the 81 points for a future vacation and still get a larger room. Granted I don't have the ability to order room service or walk/boat to Epcot or DHS, but we value the extra space and relaxed atmosphere of OKW.

As for the bus service, we've had good and bad experiences at every DVC resort. We always use Disney Transportation to get to and from the parks, even if we do have a rental car. In my opinion, it just seems to be a matter of timing.

We own at OKW and SSR. We do like the decor of SSR, but the units are much smaller than at OKW. In Dec '06 we stayed in a GV at SSR and we were disappointed with the master BR closet and clothing storage space vs the GV at OKW. To date the only DVC we have stayed in other than our home resorts is HHI, which is very similar in size to OKW. DW will be sampling a 2BR at BWV in Sept. DW and I will be sampling a 1 BR at BCV in Jan and I will be back at SSR in Feb, so we should have some observations on the other DVCs after that.

We own at OKW and it's our favorite resort, but only when getting a 1 or 2-B/R.

On trips where we only want a Studio, then we prefer BWV or BCV because of the Studio layout and proximity to two parks. IMO the 'studio' at OKW feels more like a regular hotel room, but without the 'location'. The Studios at BWV, BCV feel more like a 'villa'.

The porches/balconies are way smaller compared to OKW. Full sized kitchen vs galley style kitchen. Icemaker in the refrigerator instead of just ice cube trays like the others.

That's it in a nutshell! OKW is my favorite for all of those reasons!

wow.. I am seriously being convinced into going to OKW in May with my family... thanks for all the info...

What park is OKW closest to?

What park is OKW closest to?

It's right across the street from the Epcot parking lot, but you have to take a bus or drive your own car there. You can walk or boat or bus to DTD. And the back side of OKW is right across the street from Typhoon Lagoon.
