Family and friends from New England have sent us several pictures this morning, either through e-mail or facebook, of the first snow to hit Maine this season. Very pretty and very festive.:)

So, I sent back a few pictures from our neck of the woods. How about these holiday beauties...:)

This is our second winter here in Arizona, and it's taking some time, but we are adjusting. Although, yesterday we were driving down a dirt road that had lots of ruts in it, and my husband said he was thinking that it must be a tough road to plow. Of course, he quickly realized it wasn't an issue!:rotfl:

Cute pictures!!! I love Arizona but I can see how it would take time to adjust, especially this time of year, and especially when people are sending you all the beautiful pictures of snow that you're missing out on. :)

Those are cute.

But the second time I ever went to AZ, for a Thanksgiving at the Grand Canyon, it was very snowy! And cold. And nerve-wracking, walking along the paths (on top, we didn't do any hikes) where it was slippery.

AWESOME!!! Loving the HATS!!! :santa:

luv, my family from Drakes Island, Maine called me last night. They have the house all decorated and it was snowing like crazy!!! They tried sending me phone pics of all their outside decorations but the pics were very blurry from all the snow!!!

:lmao: I am advised NOT to report my weather :beach: back to them. :lmao:

Several friends said almost the same exact thing- "Look how beautiful it is here, and look what you're missing out on!" Um...it IS beautiful, but we're not missing out on anything. We moved to get AWAY from all that white stuff!:scared:

Yeah, the weather is a bit different in that part of Arizona. We're in southern Arizona. And, even on a good day, walking near the edge of the Grand Canyon can be treacherous.

I do miss the cold weather and snow around Christmastime. After that, not so much!

Yep, it's quite lovely out there right now; our house was decorated yesterday, we actually beat the storm by about an hour :thumbsup2 I had to have a new coat this year, and have not had boots in MANY years; I have them both now, as an early Christmas gift, and going outside is actually sort of a pleasure now! :santa:

Awesome pics, btw; my DH REALLY wants to move to Arizona, I'm emailing those pics to him :)

I love the Arizona pics. I would love it there. We had our first snow in the Lakes Region of NH. Enough for me, but its just the beginning.

Did you like living in AZ right away, or did it take some time? And do you plan on staying in AZ or would you move back to New England?

I am planning on wintering in a warm state.

This is my first winter down south and I'm NOT missing the bitter cold either! Yeah, it was in the 30s the past couple days (at night) and they got some snow north and west of me, but that isn't normal!

I do have to admit - Christmas decorations on palm trees and 70 degree weather is taking some adjusting. :lmao: I'm sure I'll adjust just fine! ;)

:rotfl2: I can relate! That was one of the reasons I ended up in New Orleans!

And I am thinking-who would want to get close enough to the cacti to put the hats on them--they are cute though. Still awaiting snow in MN :rolleyes1

As we woke up to this glorious snowy morning and drove through country roads to get to church, I said to DH..."this is why we live in new England". It was breathtaking. I just love the change of seasons too much to leave it. If I could just get away for the month of February...;)
Carter is looking so sweet, what a beautiful little boy!!! :)

It does feel a bit strange when you are used to cold winters to live in a warm climate. I am from NE Ohio and live here now but I spent 2 years in the Tampa/Clearwater area. Riding around on my bike in shorts to check out Christmas lights takes a little getting used to at first.

When you are used to donning winter apparel to go check out the Christmas lights it feels a bit strange not having to.

We lived in New England all our lives, DH from CT and I am from MA. We relocated last year '08 to Southern California :sunny: and we will never go back to those "glorious" winters. It seems like the winters in the East are starting sooner and lasting longer. :headache: There is absolutely nothing like the "glorious" sunshine and temps that comes w/living in SoCal. :sunny:

Not for me, no time at all getting used to wearing shorts and flipflops all year long. :thumbsup2 I will never go back to shovels, ice scrapers, ice melt and negative temps. DH & I ride our "beach cruisers" all weekend long.

Living here and this being our 2nd Christmas, with the very comfortable temps, so many more people put up Christmas decorations than I would see back home. Even I failed to keep up with outside decorations when we lived in the East. If it was bitter cold after Thanksgiving, that year was skipped. It really is soooo festive in SoCal during the holiday season. :santa:

Are you new to Maine?

Awesome!!!
Did you take those at Sabino Canyon?

No, they were taken in Green Valley (about twenty minutes south of Tucson).

Did you like living in AZ right away, or did it take some time? And do you plan on staying in AZ or would you move back to New England?

Honestly, the first trip we made to Arizona, about four years ago, I hated it!! I remember walking out of the airport and seeing my first cactus tree and thinking how ugly it was. Everything looked brown and I even thought the mountains were hideous. It sounds terrible, but I couldn't understand how anyone could live in such a place. There were no big, leafy trees, hardly any grass, and lots of open spaces. It was the total opposite of New England.

I'm happy to say that my opinion about Arizona has changed drastically!:) I now find the mountains absolutely gorgeous, the expanse of desert beautiful, and I've even grown fond of the cacti.:rotfl: I've discovered that there are a lot of beautiful and very colorful plants that bloom in the desert, and I enjoy seeing the lizards and desert rabbits all around the area. There isn't a lot of grass in and around the Tucson area, but guess what? Lowe's and Home Depot stocks a large variety of artificial turf. You can pick out your "grass", put it in your backyard and never have to mow.:thumbsup2

My husband has loved it here from the moment we moved, and has no desire to return to Maine, ever! Well, except to visit family and friends. It has taken me a bit longer to adjust. I still have days when I miss so many things about Maine. Overall though, I am loving Arizona. I am feeling more and more content here, and I get such a sense of peace driving down the highway and looking out at the mountains and expanse of desert. Of course, it helps that all three of our grown kids are not far from us, and we get to see our precious grandson at least three times a week.

No, we don't ever plan to move back to Maine, or to live anywhere that has frigid winters. I never knew what the sun really meant until we moved here.:cool1: We absolutely LOVE the weather!!!!!!

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

It sounds strange to say now, but I know when I lived in a cold climate, I actually wondered how people in warm climates decorated for and celebrated Christmas. Well, duh, just like people do no matter where they live!

Aww...thank you so much! He is every bit as sweet as he looks! He is such a loving little fellow. I can't adequately describe the amount of joy and happiness that he brings to all of our lives.

This is something that we've noticed, too! We decorated a bit outside by putting out a couple of small trees with lights on them and a lighted wreath. Well, I've noticed that is nothing compared to our neighbors. This is our first year in this particular community, and well...I think we're surrounded by Griswolds!:rotfl: Most of the houses are beautifully decorated with tons of lights and other holiday displays and decorations. It is fabulous to take a walk after dinner and see all the lights AND be able to enjoy it while wearing a light jacket or sweatshirt!:)

You're first impression sounds a lot like me when I even look at pics of all that. I think it is nice in its own way but that's about it, lol. I'd be one who had to learn to love it, I'm afriad. Now palm trees? No problem! lol So glad you are.

I couldn't take Maine's cold winter's but I do already love the looks of the place (loved your old pics of your house in the snow--breathtaking!)

TN's about right for me. We've already had our first snow and it was beautiful but melted by afternoon. Just the way I like it. :)
Older I get, the warmer I like it. :) I'll be a snowbird sooner than later.

Oh, no question, Maine is an absolutely beautiful state! And our house is located in one of the most gorgeous areas-southern coastal Maine. Thanks so much for the compliments on our house. I agree, it IS pretty in the snow AND in the summertime. We still own it, and who knows, maybe it'll end up being a place we'll use in the summer and at Christmastime. That, to me, would be ideal!:thumbsup2

Now you mentioned palm trees. We have a lot of those out here in Arizona, too!

Are you new to Maine?

LOL, nope, been here for... wow, 20 years now! And before that I lived in MA. I just 1) hate buying shoes and 2) don't go out in the snow if I can possibly help it. ;)

Gonna this year tho! Gonna take my dad's snowmobile out, and run around in the snow with my dog and my DD and DH... :santa:

Have fun with that!!! Snowmobiling is what has always helped me get through the long winters (after the very short summers!! :rolleyes1). I'm now single though after a recent divorce so my snowmobile will probably go untouched this winter, I'm thinking it's going to be one very LONG winter. :teeth:
