Okay . . . I'm "one of them."

You know, the people who complain about anything non-DVC. :)

I am here for the week. However, I could not get Sunday at the Boardwalk, so I booked a night's stay at the Carribean Beach Resort.

Never again.

When I checked in (and I was only second in line!), I had to wait about 15 minutes. The people ahead of me were being helped, and there were three other stations with cast members with heads looking down, working on God knows what.

Finally, I get called over.

I get put in building 42, second floor.

Looking at the map, it was 10 million miles away. And the cm told me that I could not take my luggage with me on the Disney buses that come in and out of the property.

I told him I wasn't going to walk my luggage all the way to the room and that I would die before getting half way there.

They had someone from the bell services take me in one of the vans.

Yeesh.

Then, I get into the room and it looked small. I know, I know, I'm used to our villas.

I figure, "I'll make the best of it. I'm only here for the night."

That's when I got into the king size bed.

It looked comfortable.

Did you ever hear, "Looks can be deceiving?"

You're seen those commercials for Disney where three or four children are jumping up and down on a bed?

I think it was filmed in my room!

The bed was awful and it squeaked with every turn I made.

The four pillows were all hard.
I.

Later...

I can say ADD ME TO THIS LIST TOO.:rotfl: We just realized this exact same thing on Thanksgiving night. OMG NEVER AGAIN. Matter of fact look at my signature. You will see how strongly I feel about it. Okay...we booked SSR for Nov. arriving the 20th for 7 nights and we tried to get Thanksgiving night and never got it. We booked in late Aug. so that is probably why. So I said I really want to stay Thanksgiving night at Disney instead of coming home that night ....we did this last year and I was so bummed about it. Okay..so I book a FAMILY SUITE at All Star Music for that night. N E V E R A G A I N :scared1: The check in went great, no problems there but the atmosphere of that resort was NOT FOR US. There were people smoking at every turn it seem. My dd actually ran around the resort most of the time we were there (which wasn't much) to avoid the smokers. My kids hated the 3 pull out bed deal there. The one chair thingie had this big stain on it. The food court was not what we expected. Matter of fact the only cute thing about the ALL Stars are the icons. We walked around looking at them the next day since we had some time to kill before heading to the airport. I ADMIT IT..WE ARE DVC SPOILED....CALL US SNOBS....but this family will never stay again. My kids were like "mom what is up with these towels?" (they were so thin)"why is there no bodywash or conditioner" :rotfl: My dd said she about killed herself getting out of the sleeper sofa to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, because of the metal framing of her bed, no room in the room to get around with all three pulled out. For us....s the best part of Thanksgiving was spending time together on the Holiday at DTD having a nice lunch at Planet Hollywood, seeing a movie and having dinner together at Chef Mickey's that night. If I had it to do all over again...WE WOULD FLY HOME on Thanksgiving if we could not stay DVC. I also posted a thread about how we dumped the 7/4 deal in Jan. We were going to stay in two rooms at CSR and it just didn't sit well with me so I booked OKW instead on points.

Your "complaints" lost ALL validity right her.

A couple of suggestions.

Pack less? Work out more? Learn distances?

Sorry but "10 Million miles" and "I would die" :confused3 Perhaps acting less like a child and more like an adult would help?

How about

"I showed up looking for things to complain about"

And let's hope you never have to stay at SSR.:rotfl2:

I think the OP comments were valid if that is how they felt about staying there. I doubt the OP was going into that resort looking for things to complain about. I think all that was stated was that a lesson was learned and OP will always try and stay DVC. Not all resorts at Disney are for everyone. CBR is huge and spread out and if the OP had never stayed there maybe his expectations were different. I had a similiar situtation just last month. We thought we could stay at ASMU for one night and it would be fine. We went into ASMU expecting a completely different experience than what we got. I posted about it on here too. We made the best of it but will never make that mistake twice.

Carol, Carol, Carol . . .

Methinks the humor in my post was lost on you.

I was just doing one of those snooty owner posts . . . :) . . . the kind we love to see and poke fun at.

And yes, the miles to walk are just as long at BWV. But, at least, they are indoors and not outdoors. :thumbsup2

And, hey, I was the first to admit, that I am spoiled on our villas. They provide the room and amenities that I like. I'm not a hotel-hanger-outer anymore. I'm a villa kind of guy.

Anyway, back to my vacation.

I got what you were saying and I would stay at BWV again with the long halls. It might not be my first choice but I could stay at any of the DVC resorts and have a FINE VACATION. I hope you are enjoying yours. :thumbsup2

I was shocked when I went home the first time in Aug. A TOTALLY different experience from being a "regular" resort. I can't imagine having to stay in anything but a DVC villa now and we've only been members for a year! The service is better, I know Disney service is Disney service, but it just seemed better for DVC members.

Lets not be so hard on Father Mike, shall we!! I know exactly what he is describing, as our room was so far away from everything when we stayed at Carribean Beach. That was the first and last time. No elevators, barely found a ride from our room to the main building. I was not lugging all of our luggage that distance. Unless you've stayed at CB, you have no idea how spread out this complex is. Rooms were small. Did I say small? Very small. He has very valid complaints....Carol how's about you stay there, then give us a report!!

This thread is a good example of why sarcasm shouldn't be used on the internet...(isn't it one of the Disboard rules?)

It's also been my experience that in reality, smiling after you say something mean doesn't make it any less mean.

I've become a DVC snob, - and I don't even own DVC yet!!! :lmao:

Click your heels and repeat after us: "There's no place like home. There's no place like home. There's...." ::yes::

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

That was pretty harsh. A nap might help.

The long hallways at BWV are one-tenth to one-twentieth of what you would have to walk at one of the ridiculously spread-out resorts. The reality is that the BWV hallways are extraordinarily short.

We love DVC too, but also like staying at the other resorts as well, except for Value resorts as they are too small, too noisy, pools always closed due to 'accidents' and no restaurants. We don't mind moderates or deluxes at all and in fact, on our recent May vacation we stayed at 5 resorts in 15 days! Three of them were Deluxe: Poly, Contemporary and Yacht Club. Poly room was ok, Contemporary was magical as we got upgraded to the 2 bedroom Magic Kingdom Suite (wow!) and the Yacht Club Concierge was very disappointing. Rooms were small, outdated, worn and talk about far away - we had a baby and they put us down the farthest hallway that we have ever stayed at! Talk about a long walk - whew!!

Anyway, we are partial DVC snobs in that we love our villas (have only stayed studios and 1 beds), but we also like staying in moderates or deluxes as well for a night here or there. Much prefer DVC though and that is why we purchased!

It's neat to read everyone's opinions on this topic. Happy stays to all, Tiger :)

We tend to be DVC snobs, as well..however, I really like caribbean beach and POR. when we book rooms at these two resorts we do the upgraded category room so that we are closer to the amenities. I like being able to look out of my room window onto the "beach"! Love those hammocks at CB! Value resorts are used if we are arriving late in the day and we don't want to use our points for 6 hours or so....

This trip was our first at a deluxe, never mind a DVC and we loved it, but I we also love POR and I do want to stay there again sometime (I'm sure we will to save points on a weekend next time). As I pointed out to the boys on Thursday, when it was pouring rain and cold, at least at AKV we would be inside on the way to our rooms, rather than being at POR where we'd have to walk all that way outside and get even more soaked :thumbsup2. Between that and a much shorter walk after a late night with fireworks, DVC payed for itself ;).

My kids still ask me when we're going back to stay at the All Star Movies. They have fond memories of that resort from when they were very young.

Next time I'm booking my DVC vacation, I'm going to add on a few weekend nights at ASM (okay, maybe one night because for some reason I'm sure they aren't remembering the close quarters of the value resort rooms and will be complaining in no time ;)).

At the very least people should use the proper tags <snark> </snark>

Well, okay, I guess I'm a DVC snob. We often stay a night or two at one of the other resorts to save points. The other resorts are nice, lovely etc. - we enjoy them (and have enjoyed them for 30 years) - but there's that "Ahhh" moment when we drop the bags in the villa. We're home. So I guess I qualify as a "snob".

As for the "long BWV hall walk", I've often been very glad to walk those air conditioned halls instead of being outside in the heat or rain. We've never thought the walk was all that bad.
