I keep getting these emails about Obama being the antichrist.

I am an Obama supporter so it isn't like this is a bash Obama post - I really want some information.

I didn't think the book of Revelations gave an exact description of the antichrist. These emails try to make it sound like Obama fits the description though.

I don't remember there being anything so specific as saying the antichrist will be in his 40's or Muslim.

This is what the email says:

> According to The Book of Revelations the anti-christ is:
>
> The anti-christ will be a man, in his 40s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal....the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything. Is it OBAMA??

It doesn't -- especially since the religion of Islam didn't exist when the Book of Revelation (Note -- no "S") was written.

Of course, Barack Obama isn't Muslim.

Ok, I have a few questions. Doesn't the bible say he will be of middle easten descent. Mohammid, the founder of Islam , wasn't born until 622, years after the bible was codified..How then can the bible paint the antichrist as Muslim when Islam did not exist at the time it was written?
Does the author of that lovely email just assume everyone from the middle East is Muslim..There are Jews and even Christians and other religions in that part of the world.

Furthermore if you are a Christian and believe the antichrist is the precurser to armageddon and the second coming wouldn't it behoove you to help fulfill that prophecy? WOuldn't you really be glad the antichrist was here because it would signal the approaching second coming?

Actually I am UU and a christian - but that is neither here nor there at the moment. What I am really looking for is something to send back to my cousin who sends me these emails telling him that he is wrong. :snooty:

I am UU now but I grew up in the Church of Christ so I had a LOT of bible background as a child. I never heard the antichrist described with these details so I figured that maybe there is something there that I missed.

I also wonder how they get the idea that the antichrist will be Muslim since Muslim's weren't even thought of then. Some of the responses from googles I have done say the antichrist will be a Jew.

I figured there would be someone out in the Disland who could help me with this.

this.

Sorry, I mean you in the general sense, IE those who are Christians and are up in arms about him possibly being the antichrist

The only thing anti-Christ like about Obama is that he is popular and charismatic. The rest is bunk. Clinton was popular and charismatic and he got the label too.

Also, mainline Christians do not have it as essential doctrine that it is a good thing to hasten Armageddon. In fact, in the time before and after Jesus' ministry, Armageddon theology was primarily a Jewish phenomenon. Many who believed in apocalyptic things were drawn to Jesus thinking that he was an agent of the Apocalypse. Stories of what might happen after the Apocalypse are not predicated on wishing it would come for the most part.

I know it says nothing about "he'll be in his 40's" that certainly makes it laughable all by itself.

I am not even sure if it says what he will be (Jew, Gentile etc.) I think alot of people assume a lot of things or try to make guesses.

The anti-christ is supposed to be charismatic, popular and have a big following. He is supposed to sign a peace agreement and then break that agreement in 3 1/2 years. It is specific about the talk of "peace and security" which is always a big concern for Israel.
I do not know of any Christians that I know who are hoping for all this to start happening as it seems like an awfully scary time.

That is just silly. Obama is not the Anti-Christ. I am not a supporter, but I don't believe anything that silly about him.

:scared1: :sad2:

I think the email was started by someone that was mad that similar things were started about Bush being the Antichrist.

The bible does paint the Antichrist as being someone very charismatic that can pretty much charm the majority. Sorry, don't think we've ever had a politician that meets that criteria.

The word "antichrist" only appears five times in the NT, four are in First John and one in Second John.

(Some copy/pasting from BibleGateway.com, English Standard Version)

1. 1 John 2:18
Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour.

2. 1 John 2:22
Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.

3. 1 John 4:3
and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.

4. 2 John 1:7
For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist.

ETA: Ok, as I was writing I went back and did some reading on the "beast" in Revelation, since a lot of people think that is referring to the antichrist, and nothing is written about the beast being a man, in his 40's, Muslim (or Eastern), or anything for that matter.

(BTW, I am a member of the church of Christ)

Thank you for clearing this up. Based on the passages you quoted, *I* am the antichrist. Barack Obama is off the hook! :lmao:

A good friend of mine, who is also a pastor and long time student of the bible wrote an awesome book called "Revelations Simplified." Unfortunately, I don't think it is a book you can purchase, but can only get through your church (if they have it). He basically says that Revelations 13 is the book that discusses the anti-christ and is full of symbolism.

He starts out with this Biblical quote

'Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name'."

He says in his book that The "sea" is a general expression in Bible prophecy for coming out of the masses of Gentile people. He said it is widely assumed that the Anti Christ will come from the average people. He also says that we will probably never see him because he isn't revealed until after the Church is raptured.

You really don't need scholars to disprove the bigoted email you quoted.

The book of Revelation was written over 500 years before the religion of Islam came into being. So...It is rather amazing that your spam states the book of Revelation "knows" the Antichrist will be a muslim.

This email is as valid (and intelligent) as "The Book of Revelation states that the antichrist will be a regular poster to the DIS forum"....

I really hate bigoted spam.

YES! Besides, the book of Revelation was written about a war that happened nearly 2000 years ago. It was a coded message to discuss the politics of the day without getting in trouble.

I thought this guy was the Anti-Christ. He doesn't look like Obama to me..

Will the Antichrist be of Jewish descent?

The Rev. Jerry Falwell once told an audience in Kingsport, Tenn., that the Antichrist will be of Jewish descent. A short-lived firestorm erupted in the media over his remarks. Falwell said that he only meant that the Antichrist must be Jewish because Jesus was a Jew.

I couldn't believe how badly Falwell had fumbled what should be an easy question to answer. The Antichrist will likely be Jewish because the Jews will not receive a Gentile as their promised Messiah.

Jesus predicted that Israel will someday foolishly receive the Antichrist as their saviour. "I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive"(John 5:43).

The Bible does hint that the Antichrist might have a Jewish background. In Dan 11:37 it says "Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers." Although the verse could mean any deity, the wording strongly matches Jewish heritage of faith in God.

Will the Antichrist come out of the European Union?

"And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast" (Rev: 17:10).

"For God hath put in their hearts to fulfill his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled" (Rev 17:17).

The Bible predicts that someday a world leader will emerge from a revived Roman Empire. The European Union is clearly the fulfillment of this prophetic event. At some point, ten leaders will come to rule the EU. The likely reason for the ten political bosses is the need to streamline the decision making process. When the EU grows to 25 nations, it will become quite clear that a central governing body will be necessary. The book of Revelation tells us that the ten kings and the Beast (Antichrist) will rule at the same time. It looks like the current timeline and the prophetic timeline are about to join up with each other.

At this time, the leadership of the European Union rotates among its member nations, shifting to a new EU president every six months. I see it as a kind of musical chairs game: Who will get that last, all important chair when the music stops playing?
