Anyone else have airline booked already, and keep getting flight times switched?

We're flying Airtran out of Boston. I booked the flights 3 months ago. In the past 2 months, they've changed the times on our inbound and outbound flights 7 times. 7! The latest change came through this morning, and the times stink. If they don't change, we'll be arriving very late in the evening and I'll have to cancel our departure day character meal. I'm so bummed!

Waaaaaaah!!!!!

Id be bummed also! Luckily for me all the changes have been minor for my flights (30 min to an hour difference). Down to 2 weeks and I am hoping there are no more changes!

I hope the same for you!

I keep HEARING this about Airtran and Delta too.
That is a NIGHTMARE, especially for a DISNEY vacation, I mean it is no small undertaking financially and travel wise, so LOSING time is terrible in my opinion.

Sorry for your plight, I hope it works out!
What I WILL say about Airtran is that my dad swears by them. Then they broke handle wheel off his luggage, he complained and they ultimately apologized for the delay in handling his claim and gave him 2 FREE roundtrip Tickets to ANYWHERE they fly. Now THAT was nice, though I would MUCH rather have an airline that does NOT switch your flights,
I LOVE SOUTHWEST!!

I'm sorry you are going through this. I've been reading about this a lot lately, from almost all the airlines. I think it is just the way flying will be to some extent from here on out.

Just another reason to drive, I guess. Control.

Airtran and Delta are the worst for this...just be on the lookout. Airtran is reportedly getting rid of non-stop flights so if you have a non-stop flight, make sure you keep checking Airtran's website. The website will be updated before they notify you. Also, don't forget to update your ME reservations if you are taking ME.

My husband said that to me after the email came with the flight changes----"We should have just driven." I would normally think that's nuts with 2 young kids, but now I'm thinking you two are on to something. :thumbsup2 If I'd purchased refundables, I be seriously considering canceling the flights altogether.

That is terrible. It makes it so hard to plan! How are you supposed to get transportation to and from the airport if you need it? I said to my husband - what do I do order the car for sometime on that date since we have not idea when we are flying? They have changed our flight 3 times that I know of. We went from arriving early afternoon to 7pm. Took away the whole first day of our vacation. So I switched to an 8am, which should be interesting with kids 5, 3, and 1 but at least we will get there in time to enjoy the day (I hope). Cross your fingers anyone flying.

We are booked on AIRTRAN for end of Sept. They changed our nonstop early am flight to mid day UGGGHHH and our return flight went from early evening to late double UGGGHHH... I called AIRTRAN and asked if they could please change our flights without a penalty and they did :woohoo: They seem to be VERY accomodating. I even called back and changed it again because they added a better return flight time. GO AIRTRAN

Last trip we flew Delta and they did the same thing. They also changed our flights without penalty.

Your post made me think that I better go check our itinerary for December (we are flying with Delta). Sure enough, our return trip has been changed and once again, Delta has created what dh refers to as a "time machine" issue. You know, where they have you departing on your connecting flight before your first flight even gets there? Not only that, but they took a 3-leg journey (the best we could do to get affordable flights) and added another leg. Ugh. So he's on the pc now looking for another acceptable flight before he calls them to straighten it out. Delta has created "time machine" issues for us before and usually if he calls them with a new flight number they will just go ahead and change it to that. What I don't understand is why they don't have a program that catches these itinerary glitches, and flags it for a person to look at and fix it before we even notice the problem. Nope, they obviously just expect the passengers to catch it (or get to the airport and then figure out they have a big problem). So OP, I feel your pain! Also, I wish we could drive, but we are on the west coast, so it's just too far to even consider it. We will consider driving to DL in California next year instead of going through this mess again though.

Uggg, Delta has changed our flight time 3 times now. Our trip is in Oct, and we had a non stop flight...now we have a stop, lol.
I only chose that flight originally because it was non stop. :sad2:
Honestly, I dont think that type of change is a fair one, but what do I know.:upsidedow

It's because of fuel prices...they are canceling a lot of direct flights that are not full to maximize profitability. That is probably why we ended up with an additional leg to our return trip. DH couldn't find a better flight online so he's holding for a rep now. His perimeters: gets us home by 10pm, less than four legs, & doesn't require a time machine. Wish us luck!

edit to add: well, dh was able to get us a better itinerary than originally booked. only ONE layover on our return trip now.:thumbsup2

Air Tran has changed our flight a couple of times now for our Sept trip but, it's earlier now so the good news is we shall be at our first park even earlier! Hopefully, it won't change again to a later time!

We are flying Spirit in October and our flight times have been changed several times already. We are leaving an hour later than originally planned going to Orlando and then we are coming home about 3 hours earlier than we had planned. I'm not upset about the delay going to Disney, but I'm upset about them moving up my flight to go home.

Spirit has changed ours 3 times now. The first time they changed it they put us on a flight to Ft Lauderdale where we would have a 6 hour lay over (we had a non-stop flight)! I called and they put us on a non-stop. After the first one I cancelled our dinner ressie because we would not make it. Now we are back to a morning flight and we could have kept it. They never send an email to tell us about the change - I only noticed them because I keep checking the website. I am hoping they don't change us again! :headache:

Airtran was doing the same things to our flights so I shopped around. I knew that everytime they changed it, we had the right to cancel without penalty. We checked out Southwest and ended up saving over $80! We have 4 RT nontop tickets for under $600.00! I suggest you shop around before you accept the change in flights. Good luck!

Ahh, well the increase in fuel prices makes sense.

I am happy your dh was able to improve your trip. :goodvibes

I think you have the key idea, use the change as a chance to see if you can do better. a few years back delta changed non-stop flights to a stop on a trip i had to hawaii. initially they were reluctant to let me out of my non-refundable tickets but i got a supervisor on the line and explained that they had charged a premium over market for the non-stop and that i had paid them more than competetive flights. since they took the benefit of that premium away, it was not ethical to hold me to non-refundable flights. she agreed, they refunded me and i switched to usair.

I think I will shop around. :)

I have had some stress recently that has held up my planning of our trip. I am feeling a bit more excited today, so maybe I can get more involved now.
I think I have actually forgotten exactly what all does need to be done for our trip.......eeek what stress will do to you!!! :guilty:

That is freaky...each time Spirit sent me an email regarding the change. Like you, I hope the flights don't change anymore!

Airtran changed our Sept. flights too, but we called them and complained and they changed our flights to any that we wanted with no charge. It's actually in their fine print that they will do this. You could also fly a day earlier or later if you wanted- on them! Call them and ask...
