Oh, oh. Just noticed a potential problem on discount PAP voucher

I bought 2 of the DVC discounted PAPs last year. One I activated on Nov. 27, 2012. The other one I bought as a voucher to be activated when we go on Dec. 5 of this year. I just took out the voucher to link it to MDE and noticed this on the back:

"Premium Annual Renew DVC Exch Certificate. Must redeem by 12/31/13."

I am worried because it says "Renew."
The PAP discount was for a new pass, not a renewal. It wouldn't be any big deal for it to renew on Nov. 28 of this year EXCEPT that I had hoped to use the new pass right after Thanksgiving in 2014. If it renews on Nov. 28 it will be expired for our post-Thanksgiving 2014 trip. Has anyone else noticed this language on the back of a PAP voucher they got last year? I guess that I can hope to get it straightened out once I get to Guest Relations but I dread the hassle.

Can you prove the price that you paid (credit card statement)? The "must redeem by 12/31/13" doesn't sound like a renewal, so I would also point that out. I didn't get a voucher, I did will call. MDE shows "DVC Premium Annual Pass Promo - New - Certificate".

I can't remember how I paid for it. I might have just done a room charge. There really was no such thing as a DVC PAP renewal deal that had to be used by 12/31/13, only a NEW PAP. So I am hoping that I get a Guest Relations CM who is pretty knowledgeable and was doing that deal last year. Wonder where and when Chester Figment works?

So kind of you to find this thread, CF! I actually won't be at WDW until Dec. 5 - 12. If I were going to be there this week you can bet that I would drive to BB to get your help!!! So mad at myself for not checking the back of the voucher when I bought it last year.
 
Now, this might seem totally simplistic, but I thought that part of the deal with the discounted vouchers was that they had to be activated to passes by the end of this year, so the wording on the back of the pass is correct. They couldn't be held forever. They retain the value you paid for them if you don't activate them in time.

Yes the wording about 12/31/13 is correct but the word "Renew" is NOT correct. I did not buy a renewal voucher. I do NOT want the pass to become effective on the day after my current one expires. I want it to become effective on the day I visit Guest Relations to activate it.

I get that, but I believe the terms of the discounted voucher was that the pass had to be actives into an actual pass by December 31, 2013 regardless of your intent to use it.

I still am not following you. My brain is stuck, I guess. My plan was to activate it on Dec. 6, 2013. The "renew" language would seem to indicate that I could only have it activated on the date that my current PAP expires, which is 11/28/13. That is what I am worried about.
 
I wouldn't worry about the "renew" terminology because many DVC members took advantage of this deal and did not have previous annual passes. As long as you present the voucher this year (2013) it is valid. As far as the starting date of the new pass (I am just making an educated guess) I would think it would start on the date you present the voucher.

I am going to choose to believe you are correct. At any rate, this is not a life or death problem. ;)

I would tend to agree with this poster. I've many times had a pass and let it expire and bought a new one a few days later so I'd have a later expiration date due to vacation schedules. My guess is the " renewal" language was so you could use the voucher either as a new pass or a renewal, it was your choice. I think you'll be fine.

I linked our will call numbers in MDE. My pass says DVC Promo- renewal. I called about it today because I didn't want it to be activated before we arrive. The CM I spoke to said that although it says renewal it has not been activated and that I shouldn't worry about it. I guess I will find out on Nov 9th when I go to guest services.

Thanks for posting. At least I know that I am not the only one dealing with this. If you have time to post here after your trip, it would be great to know what happened.

My DVC PAP voucher says the same thing,and I will also be redeeming it on 11/9/13. Let's hope it goes smoothly, because I don't want to renew my PAP........I want a new one.

Maybe we will see you there! We are arriving later in the day so we are thinking of going to GR at DTD since we won't be in a park that evening. My only fear is that the more experienced CMs won't be working in the evening. :confused3

Good Luck! I will be trying my luck at
Epcot's Intl Gateway, also in the afternoon.
 
Jean, I just checked on ours, and they say "DVC annual exchange" and then the "activate before" language. Ours are different in that they look like a regular tyvek AP instead of an exchange voucher. We purchased ours at Epcot customer service inside the park.
 
I guess we escaped some worry by opting for the "will call" pick up. We purchased the PAPs last November and picked them up and activated them in August. It was easy with no problems.

Mine is also tyvek but it is the "Renew" word that raised my worries. Not worth losing sleep. I'll just hope for the best.
