Oh, A Drunk Little Cucumber!! - F&W Fun with Bro and Sis Nov. 11*UPDATE 6/17* Pg.32

I AM JOINING IN. Why am I so late? Because I'm dumb and didn't realize you had two TRs going at once, that is why. And now that I'm here I can't help but notice that you and I had the same idea for our chapter titles... FRIENDS RULES ALL. Although I kinda feel like a copycat now, oops! I didn't know, I swear! :rotfl:

Omg your Dunkin Donuts story was hilarious. "It's true, everybody runs on Dunkin'!" :lmao: I mean, I know I do!

Aaaaand I've decided that the iPhone is for me. My contract expires in two months and I'm GOIN FOR IT BABY. AW YEAH. I mean seriously? A phone can take better night pictures than my camera that is just a camera and not also a phone? What the what?
(What is siri though? So intrigued and confused!)

THE YETI! I love him and his antics. His king of the world pose had me cracking up! Good ol' Yeti.

AHH THE MINIONS! Hahaha I love them! Have you seen the teaser for Despicable Me 2? They're singing Barbara Ann, it cracks me up I tell ya.

OKAY so I'm sorry for that NOVEL, but I'm caught up! Exciting stuff. Can't wait for more!

Glad to hear that your mum is doing better :)

Your breakfast pics are making me hungry as usual lol! Way to go on whooping Chris after the MIB defeat :woohoo: I miss IASW - may be the only person but I loved it!

Anytime I see pictures of food, I get hungry. LOL.

I had to redeem myself after the MIB disaster! I love IASW too. I just don't go on it all the time.

Hi Danielle!!! :)

I followed you over from my TR.

I must admit that I started reading your TR this morning, but I am waaaaay back there yet. I wish I could devote more time to reading this morning, but I must get some work done while the puppy is still sleeping.

Anyways - I just wanted to say hi, and let you know I am following along. I'll try to get caught up as time permits...

I am curious how close we are as nieghbors - since you took off from the Milwaukee airport... I live on the WI border - on the MN side though.

Oh, and I did read - I am glad that your Mom is doing better. :)

D~

Glad that you're here!

I live on the WI border on the Illinois side, near the lake. We normally go to Milwaukee, because it's about a 40 minute drive (give or take), and much easier to get to than O'Hare. Plus, parking is so much less expensive. I prefer smaller airports for sure.

Soooo, I was pretty far behind, but I am all caught up now. Glad to hear that your mom is on the mend. What a great daughter she has!

Aw, the Minions are so cute! I haven't seen the movie in full, but I can still appreciate their cuteness.

Ahahaha, funny you should mentioned how you like the Simpsons ride wasn't kiddie-fied. Pretty much because we had no idea what we were getting into when we went on it and I was apprehensive about putting my little girl on it but everyone else kept reassuring me that it would be fine. They kept saying - look! It's the Simpsons, it'll be fine. I should have known as soon as I saw all the promos with the crazed clown on the loose. Oh well, now we know!

I never got to ride the Rip rock-it coaster. It was down for a majority of our trip and I took that as an omen.

And why didn't I ever see any studly men walking around Universal?

I am hungry right now and could totally see myself enjoying a yummy croissant sandwich.

Uh-oh, your teaser for the next update sounds sad. I would be sad if there was no food and wine.

You totally have to watch Despicable Me! The movie is great. I loved it. The Minions alone make it worth watching it.

I definitely wouldn't put a little on on the Simpsons ride! Well, scratch that. I'm sure Jason would put Joaquin on it, but you know that Joaquin's a little....unique. :lmao:

Coasters like Rip Ride Rockit tend to have issues like that sometimes. Don't let something like that dissuade you from riding. Especially because it's a newer attraction, they tend to have more "glitches". I know that doesn't sound encouraging. :lmao: But, having worked in the theme park industry for 6 years, it's much less harmless than you would think. Normally, it's a simple computer problem that causes it. They just shut down and don't feel like cooperating. With some of our newer attractions when I worked at Six Flags, we had similar problems. Inevitably, they had an issue every day, simply because they were new and everything hadn't been worked out correctly. Wow, sorry for the novella.

The next update isn't too sad, but I was mildly saddened by the events.

I wanted to let all of you know what a wonderful, thoughtful daughter I have. I don't know how I would have survived my broken leg without her. She has been an awesome help and I love, love her for that.:thumbsup2:love:

 Thanks mom!

Hahaha, that's okay! It's the sheer awesomeness that is Friends that caused us to have the same idea!

I still vividly remember the stupid Dunkin' Donuts guy. He was such an idiot! I remember sitting in the back of the car like "dude, if you mess up my Dunkin' order, I will hunt you down!"

Definitely get the new iPhone. It's worth it IMO. I love it and don't regret spending the money on it. Honestly, I love the camera on it a whole lot more than my normal camera. The pictures are just so much better. Siri is the feature on the phone that you can talk to and it gives you answers. It's what they've featured in the ads. So you can say "I'm hungry", and then Siri searches the area and pulls up restaurants that are close to you. Very convenient. Although, sometimes I turn Siri on by accident, and I'm like "no! I don't want to talk to you!" :rotfl:

I just about died when I saw the teaser for Despicable Me 2! I love the Barbara Ann thing! "Potatooo-oooo-oooo! Ba ba ba ba na na na!" So classic.

Day 5 - Wednesday November 9, 2011

Yes dear readers, the time has arrived for the introduction of the drunk little cucumber. Let's go!

So we left off heading back to Caribbean Beach to relax for a while. Chris had told me that he had a bit of a headache, so he wanted to take some aspirin and try to sleep it off. It must have worked, because he seemed ready to go when it was time to head out. We left at 5pm. I was glad that his headache went away, because I was so ready to get some food and wine! I mean, they don't call it the food and wine festival for nothing!

We took a bus, because I was not about to drive with the intention of partaking in potentially excessive amounts of food and wine.

The bus came pretty quickly and we were at our destination. The sun was starting to set, but the weather was still beautiful. I got this lovely picture.

a6061687.jpg

What a lovely sight!

Our first stop was the festival center. Which is in the now defunct Wonders of Life pavilion. We went in there and I suddenly got very sad! I missed seeing the inside. Cranium Command, Body Wars, the Making of Me. Ghosts of 90's past. :sad2: D'oh, I just dated myself again!!!!!

We went to the festival center to get some gift cards for our wrists. We had a plan. We saved our snack credits for the festival, but were going to spend cash on anything that was $3.50 or less, or obviously anything that contained alcohol. On a side note, how sad is it now that the quick service dining plan only has one snack now?! The two snacks per day per person were great for us specifically for the festival. We got everything we wanted and more. Now, it's not going to work quite as well.

I will rate the dishes with a scaling of 0 to 3 stars. 0 is would not get again, 1 is maybe get again, 2 is definitely get again, and 3 is would eat over and over again!

Our first booth?

Argentina.

Grilled Beef Skewer with Chimichurri Sauce and Boniato Puree. (2 stars)

b96d400d.jpg

It was very good. The puree was very soft and buttery. Just perfect. If I'm not mistaken, the Chimichurri Sauce was pesto based. Very tasty. We both liked this.

Second booth?

The Caribbean.

Ropa Vieja (Cuban Style Braised Beef) with white rice. (3 stars)
Ropa Vieja literally translated is Old Clothes. Also in the picture is the dragonberry colada. It was very good, but a little on the small side. Just not big enough for me. LOL.

65fc3fba.jpg

The Ropa Vieja was one of my favorite dishes. The beef was so tender and braised just right. It was perfectly made and the rice was flavorful as well. Both Chris and I enjoyed this.

Third booth?

Mexico.

Grilled Ribeye Taco. (1 star)

31f66725.jpg

This was neither here nor there for me. Chris ate the majority of it. The bite I had was good, but it was nothing unique for me.

After this, it was off to the Ditch (La Cava) for some margarita's!!! I mean, we were right in the area. I couldn't go any farther away from it before stopping in.

This place was crazy!!! There were people everywhere. And, because it was the food and wine (emphasis on WINE) festival, they were all three sheets to the wind. Which is fine with me, but I was not even 1 sheet to the wind, so I thought they were humorous. This one girl at the Ditch was cracking me up. You know when you've had too much to drink and everything you say comes out like you're SHOUTING? That's what she was doing. And she was telling some obnoxious story that everyone could hear because she had no volume control.

Girl: AND THEN, SHE *burp* CAME OVER TO ME AND WAS LIKE........WAIT.....WHAT WAS I SAYING?! *hiccup* OH, THAT'S RIGHT.....UMMMMMM.....WOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I was glad to be out of there with our drinky drinky's. I got the hibiscus margarita (the BEST ever! And it's no longer there anymore. *sob*). And Chris' got......

A CUCUMBER MARGARITA!!!!

2163bf74.jpg

88675b38.jpg

He liked his margarita very much. I warned him that they were strong. They pull no punches at the Ditch. Well, this one margarita....made Chris a little giddy. So, he gets to the bottom of his margarita, sticks his hand in the drink, and pulls out a cucumber piece. To which he announces:

"Oh, a drunk little cucumber! Come here drunk little cucumber, so that I may eat you!" (proceeds to eat the drunk little cucumber).

*crunch**crunch**crunch* "Oh look, another drunk little cucumber!!! Naughty little cucumber!"*crunch**crunch**crunch*

:lmao: I told him the drinks were strong!

ONWARD!!!!

Fourth booth?

South Korea.

Boolgogi BBQ Beef with Steamed Rice and Kimchi. (0 stars)

61a7ce38.jpg

Now, I'm no fool, no sirree. I'm gonna live to be a hundred and three!.....wait.....random Jiminy Cricket alert!!!!

I am no fool. I know kimchi is spicy. I do not like spicy food. At all. Like, I'm the biggest pansy you've ever met in your life. How can I put this.....I think too much pepper is spicy. You are now free to laugh at me.

I tried my best to avoid the kimchi. I did. But kimchi, well, it has sauce. Sauce that seemed to get into my boolgogi......I took a bite. And proceeded to guzzle my entire bottle of Dasani!!! My mouth was on fire. Like, no joke, on fire. It felt like someone dumped insanity sauce in my mouth. I just couldn't take it! Which caused Chris to laugh at me uncontrollably.

So yea, the boolgogi gets a 0. It is guilty by association, and that association is KIMCHI!

Chris liked it though.

As I wished for a glass of milk at that exact moment, I ran to another booth. Sour cream is kind of like milk, right?

Fifth booth?

Poland.

Kielbasa and Potato Pierogie and caramelized onions and sour cream. (2 stars).

3aee742d.jpg

Okay, here's why this is a two stars. The kielbasa was really good and on that alone, I would get it again. The pierogie's were good, but not great. Nothing out of this world. But I'm Belgian, and we love sausage, so yeah, I'd get it again. Chris did not love, because he hates sour cream, so he kind of avoided it like the plague.

Sixth booth?

New Zealand.

Seared Sea Scallop with Kumara Red Curry Puree and Apple Radish salad (3 stars).

976d4301.jpg

I love scallops, so this was a winner for me. I would definitely get it again. Just sear it a teeny bit more maybe. Chris is not a seafood lover, but he tried it and said it was good.

Lamb Slider with Tomato Chutney. (1 star)

2e62111f.jpg

Chris loved this! See the bite? He couldn't help it. I thought it was okay, but I'm not a huge lamb fan, so it was meh for me.

Seventh booth.

Belgium (my home!!! Well, my mom's home anyway. But I have the blood in me).

I wanted mussels. I was so looking forward to mussels. And they WERE OUT OF MUSSELS!!! Wait.....this is the food and wine festival and you ARE OUT OF FOOD?! How does that happen? I sobbed through the remainder of the line, while we waited for Chris to get the Guylian Sea Shell truffles. I remember eating those all the time when I was a kid (we're Belgian, we got the hookup!). I love that they sold them in little packages. Praline....OMG....praline......

When we were waiting in line, Chris and I were talking about the beers. He wanted to get the flight. So we were talking about Leffe beer, and I called it LefKe (emphasis on the K that technically isn't there). Because, per my mom, that's how it's technically pronounced. The couple behind me asked me what the real pronunciation was, so I told them. They told me that they visited Belgium on a cruise that they took and that they had written it off as a country that really wasn't worth seeing, but when they got there, they wanted to stay there the whole time and it was their favorite. I told them that for such a small country, it's so diverse and worth visiting for sure. They agreed that it was great. We had a nice conversation with them and parted ways after a while.

So, the moral of the story is, small countries are often the best to see! Plus, if you like food, Belgium is the place to go. Very diverse cuisine.

We headed to the France Wine Kiosk, because I wanted to get some Nuvo. I love that stuff! I wanted Chris to try it also. So, I wait in line, get up there, try to order the Nuvo....wait for it.....wait for it......

They were out of it!

NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! (said like Luke Skywalker when he finds out Darth Vader is his father).

First, you're out of food in Belgium.....now you're out of WINE!!??? (alcohol, but you know, potato, potahtoe). Whatever!

I have no choice but to move on.

Eighth booth.

France.

Creme Brulee au Chocolat au Lait (Chocolate Milk Creme Brulee topped with Caramelized Sugar) (3 stars).

f0f6c438.jpg

This is a winner for me, but that's because I love creme brulee and I love chocolate. Well, this is both, so of course I love it!!!!!

Escargots Persillade en Broiche (Snails in Garlic and Parsley Brioche). (3 stars).

2fcdedc1.jpg

I love escargot. Love, love, love it. Now, between you, me and the fence post, the escargot that they have at the Bistro de Paris, above Chefs de France, is far superior. But, I love escargot, so really, anything is fine for me. Chris tried it for the first time. He was scared. But he pushed through the pain and tried it. He said it was better than he thought. But I know he wouldn't buy them again.

I also got the Parisian Cosmo slush......and slushed it down very quickly. :rolleyes1

Ninth booth.

Ireland.

I have no pictures of this, but we got Chocolate Lava Cake with Bailey's Ganache (3 stars!), and Bunratty Meade Honey Wine (3 stars!). The Lava Cake was beyond amazing. So tiny, yet so potently tasty. OMG, I'm dreaming about it right now. In case you're wondering, this is why I did not get anymore photos.

bfc86406.jpg

That was my Guinness. I drank it fast....almost immediately after my Parisian Cosmo slush.

Tenth booth.

Desserts and Champagne.

Again, no pictures? Wonder why? Oh, that's because I had moved on to a Purple Haze from the craft beers booth. Duh!

Chris got the dessert trio of Lemon Chiffon, White Chocolate Macadamia Mousse with Dark Chocolate Pearls, and Tres Leches Verrine (2 stars). Good, but not out of this world.

After this trip around the world, we were happy, buzzy, and overall in a good mood. We had such a great time just wandering around World Showcase sampling everything. And we were even more exciting, because we had another day of that planned.

We headed out of the park. Well, if you're full on food and buzzed on wine, where are you going to go?

60174a1f.jpg

Of course! This ride is soooooo much fun after you've been drinking....I mean, I love it anyway, but man, what a different experience!

63096613.jpg

1842e2b8.jpg

You could imagine what I was thinking at this point? "OOOOHHHH, PRETTY!!!

fbfc44d5.jpg

I don't know if you can tell, but clearly I had been drinking.....

d46452cd.jpg

That was our last ride of the night. We headed out of the park then, happy, content, and ready for bed. Such a great day, and such a great ending.

Up next: TSM, TSM, how I love thee....let me count the ways.

Wow, you guys tried a lot of awesome-looking treats at F&W! I had really wanted to try the Cucumber Margarita, did Chris enjoy it?

The Finding Nemo ride is another fantastic one to go on after enjoying some Epcot spirits. You'll never find the end song more hilarious. "In the big, blue wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorld...:rotfl:"

(Not that I know this from experience...:rolleyes1)

Loved your Food and Wine review !!!! The drunk cucumber story was funny. I have always wanted to go to the ditch, but I am pretty sure it isn't a place for the kids. Maybe I will sneak in and get something to go.

Girl...that was hands down the best review I have ever read for F & W:worship::worship::worship:You are a goddess!

Now...about that darn kimchi! When Jasmine was in the 6th grade we decided to host a Korean exchange student whose favorite thing on earth was Kimchi! I wouldn't touch the stuff until one day she politely said "Miss Jacquie, I have tried everything you have prepared please try just one bite"...ok couldn't argue with the kid! I still don't think I'm over it and I like spicy food...but this:scared:She laughed and laughed and laughed.....I was choking and turning blue but her and Jasmine found it all very amusing!

Love the drunk little cucumber...I am so trying one of those in May!;)

Chris liked the Cucumber Margarita very much. I tasted it, and it's very refreshing, so I recommend it for sure. :thumbsup2

We did try a lot of awesome treats, and it's not over yet. We have another F&W day coming up.

I'm going to have to put the Seas with Nemo and Friends on my list after I've consumed some libations.

Definitely get something to go the next time you're there. If you go the right time of day, you can get in and out pretty quickly. We did that when we were with the kids.

Aw, thanks! When I was reading my notes, I had forgotten that I had taken the descriptions of the items and recorded them. More review will be coming up, because we had another F&W day in the trip. This was only the start. LOL.

I would have had to respectfully decline the Kimchi! It's just far too spicy for me! I seriously had a meltdown when I got a smidge of a taste. I couldn't imagine a full on bite! However, I do appreciate the humor in it. I could understand why Jasmine cracked up about it.

Definitely get the cucumber margarita in May! I tasted it and it was very light and refreshing, which is always a plus. And drink a GGS for me! :lovestruc

Hahaha! "so that I may eat you!" Oh my gosh, does that not sound like something Chandler Bing would say? It so does! :rotfl: Too funny!

I can't do spicy either! Too much pepper is a no no for me too. Glad yall had fun fooding and wining!

You're so right, that does sound like something Chandler would say! Maybe, when I ate the kimchi, I should have said "could that BE any more spicy?"

Oh my gosh you guys did so well at the F&WF!! I'm just too picky for it. Everything that looks scrumptious always has something in it I won't like (red meat, seafood, spicy food, food I've never tried... the list is endless). I wish I liked more food.
Fantastic reviews though! I also find too much pepper to be spicy. DH on the other hand has no taste buds or something.

:rotfl2: I can't see a single picture but this update just had me laughing out loud. I wondered where the drunk cucumber came from. I have tried the jalapeno and the avocado. I am so going for the cucumber in June and I will will crack myself up when I eat my drunk cucumber.

Awesome evening. I can't wait to hit f&w in the fall.

I agree that they should NOT have taken that second snack away with the QSDP. I wanted to try it this summer with my nephews because I am not taking them to TS...too many of them. But that extra snack. That was the deal braker for me.

Be back later to see your pics!

That was awesome! I'm so ready to try the Food & Wine Festival someday, but who knows when??

Spaceship Earth after having a few is a great idea! And Nemo, too! (from PP) I think the only thing we did was Space Mountain which was good but could end in disaster if you're not careful! :scared:

Can't wait to read more!

P.S. Glad your mom is doing better! :flower3:

I'm sorry that you feel you're too picky for it. I have to say though, it's well worth it if you can break out of your shell a little bit. I've eaten things from there that I typically wouldn't eat. The bonus is that the servings are so small, that it's not so bad if you don't love it.

Hahaha, yes the title of the TR finally explained. Definitely get the cucumber in June, it's an awesome choice. And please, take a picture of yourself eating your drunk little cucumber!

You're going to love F&W. For sure my favorite time of year to go to WDW. Just to putz around and have a good time. It's so relaxing for me that time of year for some reason, even though the crowds are still a little high.

At least someone else mourns the extra snack with me! I was heartbroken when they took it out. Just depressing. It was so convenient for the F&W festival.

You definitely need to put F&W on your list for the future.

I will have to try Nemo after a few libations! I'm sure it's a blast.

I'm not a drinker, but in state of Disney sleep deprivation and silliness, I can totally see myself saying this without even being drunk. :upsidedow

At which my children would do this - :rolleyes1 :sad2: - and pretend not to know me. ;)

Toy Story Midway Mania - probably Jill's very favorite ride on all of property right now. ::yes::

Yay! Ah! I was so sad about leaving MK so early, but now I understand, some food & wine is FAR more important! :thumbsup2 I have yet to go into Hall of Presidents, and I doubt I ever will, who knows!

Epcot is just so fantastic! I really hope that I do get to head down for food & wine this year, I've wanted to forever, and it lands right over Sylvia's bday, so hopfully that trip happens, otherwise I'll have to find some rich friend to come with me, because let's be serious, I don't want to drink around the world alone! :rotfl:

I love the drunk cucumber story! That's hilariously awesome!!

I LOVE THE TITLE!!! lol. Your pics make me look pathetic that I live here and tried pretty much none of those food options lol. Oh well!!

I have been known to say silly things as well, without being drunk.

TSM is my definitely one of my favorites on property too. Because I'm just so darn competitive.

F&W is an experience in itself, so you need to dedicate a good amount of time to just wander around sampling food. Otherwise, you feel like you miss so much. You do have to get down there someday for sure. It's well worth it. But you're right, drinking around the world alone might not be the best idea. :lmao:

I LOVE THE TITLE!!! lol. Your pics make me look pathetic that I live here and tried pretty much none of those food options lol. Oh well!!

Hahaha. That's so funny that you haven't tried that stuff and you live there. This year, you're going to have to head on in and just eat, eat, eat.

Haha, now I'm behind! I'm glad your mom is doing better, leg injuries are no fun and neither is having to continuously ask people to get you food (never realized how much I snack until someone had to go get it for me!).

Mmm, that cinnamon roll looks heavenly. Absolutely perfect breakfast! I'm so glad that so many breakfast foods double as dessert - it's not wonder that breakfast is my favorite meal (well, technically brunch because mimosas are divine. Apparently breakfast is also my religion??).

The iPhone 4S is amazing. I can't wait until I get mine - my 3GS just can't compare. I don't think I've ever actually used the camera to take actual pictures. But it will be so nice to have a mini point and shoot in my phone! For no extra charge!

The crowds in MK that day look really low! Or is that just because of the photopass opportunity? Are they all hiding off in the wings?

SPACESHIP EARTH!! How pretty! I love all the colors. And the 'international travel' theme of food and wine. There's just something about steamer trunks.

Food and Wine looks like so much fun (especially with the margaritas!). Though I feel like it would be wasted on me... I usually never buy theme park snacks because it never happened when I was kid! I'd be the nerd sitting in all the demonstrations and taking notes instead. :lmao: The food does all look very tasty!

I think that when I go through the lights room of Spaceship Earth all the time and I'm always dead sober. I don't know what it is about that room! But I feel like I look like my cats whenever they find a mirror and it completely blows their mind that there is another cat in there.

Breakfast is my absolute favorite meal of the day and I'm a firm believer in the fact that you should be able to eat breakfast anytime you want. I hate that lots of places stop serving it. Whhhyyyyy????? Ugh.

The iPhone 4S is amazing. I can't wait until I get mine - my 3GS just can't compare. I don't think I've ever actually used the camera to take actual pictures. But it will be so nice to have a mini point and shoot in my phone! For no extra charge!

It's so nice to have that I've stopped using my regular camera altogether basically. I have a bigger one that I still use for major trips, but I love the iPhone for everything else.

The crowds in MK that day look really low! Or is that just because of the photopass opportunity? Are they all hiding off in the wings?

The crowds at MK were pretty low that day for sure.

SPACESHIP EARTH!! How pretty! I love all the colors. And the 'international travel' theme of food and wine. There's just something about steamer trunks.

It is tons of fun for sure. We don't look at them as snacks though, I treated them like my meal for the day instead. And there is nothing wrong with being the nerd that sits in the demonstrations.

I think that about the lights too! Regardless of how much I have been drinking. It was just amplified at that moment. LOL.
