Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

We aren't going to the expo until Friday because when we originally did our plans it was for a Sat night race. It wouldn't have mattered though, we wouldn't want wanted to make our week wed to wed or thurs to thurs, that's just weird to me. Hopefully we'll make it there between 11 and noon.

Hi everybody. Thanks for all the great advice so far.

I plan to go to the Expo on Friday 11/4. I'm arriving in town very early that morning so I could go anytime from 10-7. What time do you recommend to minimize the crowds? Thanks!

I'd just go as soon around opening since it's the second day of the expo. Basically a strolli n when you get there thing.

We did the same last year ... We also arrive that morning and are planning to 'check our bags' (room or concierge) and then go on over to the expo. We're conflicted by need to get our bibs and wanting to eat our way around the world when it opens!

Brian

We arrive on Wed midday, but we'll do opening on Thursday, despite the mess, if only so we can 1) make sure we can get some Lumiere merch and 2) head over to Epcot to eat our way around the world!

Hey! I thought I had read somewhere that the post race party also includes a gift card or some kind of coupon to redeem against some of the samples at the kiosks, I think I am going mad as I cant see anything about that now!

Can anyone confirm that I am actually going mad?

Thanks!

If you look on the Wine & Dine page at runDisney.com, under "participants will receive" it mentions the gift card ($15).

Gretchen what time are you and Jan arriving? Our plans are the same on Thursday. Maybe we can get together!

Yes, we should definitely meet up! (Maybe we can get our shirts/ears sometime that day from you?) What time are we arriving to the expo? For Princess we got there pretty early. I think we left Riverside at 8:30 or something like that. We ubered over. We can share one if you guys like. Let's chat more about tit and we'll figure out a meet up!

I know they just started doing this with the Star Wars Dark Side weekend, but is anyone purchasing Memory Maker in terms of getting their race photos?

If I was just having a regular vacation I do not think I would get it for this trip, but since this is going to be my first runDisney race I'm thinking taking the plunge.

Curious to hear everyone's thoughts! Thanks!

I have an AP, so my pictures will be included. :)

I had the same deal at Tink this year and the photos were really, really nice. Much better than MarathonFoto (the company that used to do photography for runDisney races) in terms of quality and price paid.

If you don't mind me asking, we are new to rundisney with APs, do you just wear your Magic band when you run and have the photographer scan it?

No, after the race you log into your PhotoPass account and add in a code that includes your race bib number (so if your bib number is 5243 the code might be something like WINE-HALF-2017-5243) - I forget exactly how the numbers are set up but it definitely has the name and year of the race. So make sure your bib is visible!

AP here too so will get the photopass pictures with it, nice perk they added, especially by changing race photos to them. If you buy it I would make sure your bib doesn't get crinkled/hidden at all (since there is no way to look for lost photos on your own) & take advantage of getting all the photos you can (well without cutting people off of course). The photopass photographers set up with neon green "stations" so I think they are easier to spot from how others have talked about them (can't say for myself as this will be my first time with them). Then in park I would take advantage of getting medal shots with icons & characters too. I've heard of people buying memory maker and not taking full advantage of it & then complaining.

We bought it but will have 6 days in the park plus the race so we'll get good use out of it. If it was just the race we wouldn't have bought it.

Also an AP, however before having an AP I always bought Memory Maker. Loved it for family trips but I would normally split the cost with my roommates for the race weekend for it and we always try to take full advantage of it. Princess weekend they had someone out in Hollywood Studios with the glass slipper. It was perfect for that weekend and a great photo op with medals!

I'm majorly stressing about this trip now and am not feeling good about being able to get the 2 days off. The HR director emailed me back today and said "I'll look into this and get back to you." It's obviously not a no, but something about it doesn't sound positive to me. At this point, I just hope I can at least get Friday off, or else I'll probably have to cancel the whole trip and lose all the money for Lumiere, since I wouldn't get there in time for packet pickup. :( And of course today's Friday, so no chance of really hearing anything for at least a couple days.

If I have to go back to the Thursday evening flight instead of morning, that would mean expo on Friday. But we also have Epcot FPs for Friday (the latest being at 3:00 for Frozen) which I wouldn't want to miss. So I'd probably stick to spending the day at Epcot until then, doing that, and then leaving straight from there to go to the expo (maybe get a bus at the Boardwalk). I wanted to go earlier than the afternoon of the second day, but I may not have a choice.

Ugh, I'm sorry for all the complaining, but all this uncertainty is really just completely ruining my excitement. I feel like I'll be lucky if I can even make the races now. And with my luck, I'll make it but it will be a repeat of last year.

I am going to spring for the Memory Maker this time. I didn't get it the last time we went but there are more of us going this time, and there is the race so I'm hoping to REALLY get my moneys worth from it!!! Might split the price with my running mate too!

I just really want to know what the 10K course is going to be like. I keep hoping that they're going to do something different besides the princess/marathon weekend course. I love the last 3 miles but I hate those first 3. My 5K split is always way slower on the first half, but I stop more on the second half taking pictures so go figure.
