Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Thank-You, Thank-You Horned King! :worship:
I hope they do allow a program of sort to use for our own kids DS's but this looks way cool- Not that it will replace Pal Mickey on my list to buy though- I gotta have one of him too- This looks awesome though- Gotta check this out! Seems to be an advanced Palm pilot capability in the DS for WDW- I do like the protective cover idea for bumps, knocks, and such! Gotta check this out! I really appreciate it!

Check out this smokin' hot deal at Toys R Us this week!

I knew I wanted WiiFit($90) and GH3($90) but was waiting for a deal for both as they'll be for the teens for Christmas. I missed the Circuit City deal I posted about a week ago for GH3 and I've been really bummed. Now I'm happy as I did even better.

WiiFit $89.99
GH3 $89.99 on sale for $59.99 minus $20(buy 1 wii game get $20 off another game)

Total $130 plus tax for $180 plus tax worth of stuff! I saved $50 bucks! Yay! This wouldn't work online, I had to go to the store. Online it wouldn't take the $20 off the already on sale gh3 and they didn't have Wii Fit in stock. It was well worth the drive to the store to get this deal though!

And by the way, I bought the Wii Fit at 6:30pm tonight and they still had plenty left.

Hi, All!
My DD9 is about to have her tonsils and adenoids removed. She will have to engage in quiet activities for a few weeks. I was hoping you could help me find a Wii game and a DS game that would help her pass the time, but not be active (the opposite of what I usually want!) I am anticipating that she will be a bit cranky and sore!

DD9 has Nintendogs, Animal Crossing and MySims for the DS and I think likes Animal Crossings the most.

We have Wii Sports, Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros (?)...She really likes the sports one better. Her younger brother LOVES Smash Bros and Mario Galaxy...She doesn't seem to play those much, if at all.

Does anyone have a suggestion me? I am really uninformed, sadly. My 3 kids just shake their heads at me! I just want to help her recovery. She's my middle child and deserves a little extra TLC!

Thanks in advance, for any suggestions!!!!

My DD is 10 and one of her favorite games for the DS is Cooking Mama, she plays it most often. She also likes Harvest Moon and Cake Mania. For the Wii she plays dance dance revolution (not a quiet game though) and she likes Mario Kart.

Hope all goes well with surgery and she has a speedy recovery! :thumbsup2

I told my kids if they got an error they needed to write down what they were playing and the error they got etc etc etc.

So only 1 error yesterday and it was again while playing Madden 08. I can't remember the exact wording but it was a read disc error so hopefully that game is what is the problem and guess I'll get the new Madden or will at some point as I doubt I'll replace that game (maybe I'll get a used one, we'll see).

He is still able to play the game. He ejects the game, blows on it or rubs it on a soft cloth and puts it back in and it's fine, so who knows. I just don't want it to be the system.

For the DS, my daughter is currently into Pokemon. She was into Animal Crossing before that. She also loves Mario Kart and Sims:Castaway.

For the Wii, Mario Kart is good. I'd also recommend Super Paper Mario Brothers.

Good luck with her recovery. My oldest had her tonsils and adenoids removed when she was 3. I think it's harder on us the parents.

Sounds like a game error...but the laser in the wii could also be dirty... they do sell cleaners..buT DO NOT..i repeat DO NOT buy one!!! It voids your warranty...if it keeps happening I still usggest callign nintendo and see what they tell you.

Liek I said that eroor sounds alot like a disc problem...does the disc have any scratches on the surface? If it does I'm willing to bet that is the problem...my local gamecazy here in Ohio will buff discs for a small fee if you bring them in...just a thought.

"Eject the game disc and turn the wii off, see manual for more information."

This is what I'm told the error was when playing Madden 08. When playing NBA the tv went dark again, so maybe we have a tv and wii problem?

The kids have taken the cords on and off to switch the Wii to another tv since we bought it so maybe the connectors are going bad???:confused3

If you google the game there are several articles about how buggy Madden 08 is. I'd contact EA tech support and ask for thier advice first.

I know I haven't been on in a long time but I'm hoping someone that's familiar with Pokemon Diamond and Pearl for the DS can help. My son has been playing and everything was fine until he was encountered by a little girl who wanted him to rescue her father. He battled the guard who locked himself inside the building. The next step is to get the key so he walked back to town (Floraoma) to battle the Galactic Grunts to get the key but they won't battle him. I've checked guides and I can't figure out why they won't battle. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and how to help? I know I sound crazy here :teeth:

give me a second..let me think back...it's been so long since I did that part...

So your Son...went to the windworks...made the grunt lock himself into the windworks...went to get the key but can't get it???

He has to go to the meadow in Floaroma town..the entrance is up and to the left of the pokecenter. It had previously been blocked by 2 guards..those gards should now be inside picking on a poor old man..he has to simply go up and talk to them and then they will battle him for messing in their business...then he gets the key.

If he is still seeing guards blocking the meadow then he missed a step somewhere along the way.

One other question( hate to ask..but have too) is has he ever used a cheat device on the game...like a gameshark?? If so this could have glitched the game ..only way around it then would be to completely restart the game.

hope this helps..if not, let me know and i'll see if I can get better info then that for you.

Yes he locked himself inside and he went back and found the guards but they won't battle him. They keep telling him they're conducting research and it's none of his concern. I told him he must have missed something but we found a walkthrough and he thinks he's done everything. There was one thing that was supposed to appear after he defeated some trainers that he didn't get and couldn't find it when he went back. He also hadn't gotten the Duskball but did get it today.

We bought a cheat device but it's still in the package. We really want him to play it the old fashioned way.

Thanks I'll re-read the walkthrough and see if we can figure out what he's missing. I assume he'll never be able to go on if we can't figure this out??

Are they still standing outside of the meadow..not letting him in it? or are they picking on the old man?

have him go back to the windworks and try to get into the building then go directly over to floraroma and to the meadow(like i said just up and to the left of the pokecenter and see what happens.

I don't remember doing anythign else other then that.

They're standing outside the meadow, just over the bridge and will not let him in or battle him. We (I) tried that last night but I will try again. If not I may open that cheater thing anyway. He's pretty frustrated right now. I had him go back to the other towns and make sure he didn't miss any battles. He had missed a couple but battled and won so I don't know what else we're missing.
Thanks for your help :).

No problem...wish I could be of more help....ACTUALLY I CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THEY ARE NOT THE GRUNTS ON THE BRIDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a feelign this is where you might be off....go to the pokecenter in floraroma town. Then walk to the left and up intill you see a split in the trees.(there used too be 2 guys there blocking the entrance into the trees) go into the trees and you will find the grunts there picking on an old man.

He is looking in the wrong spot.....If I could show you a picutre I would...but just go to the pokemart and walk up and to the LEFT!! through the trees and you should be ok....You CAN NOT get across the bridge to the upper right yet...not until after he gets the key, ect.

I'll look into that. We've had the game since Christmas though, he only just recently started to play it. He received a few errors playing it again and it seems like it is the disc as other games were played without a problem. I doubt I'll pay to have anything done though since the new Madden will out be soon.

far better to get the new madden...that said just wondering if you are getting the madden09 over NCAA 09..since I know your DS loves some college football.

We will probably get both Madden and NCAA 09. He plays both and sets up tournaments in both. Our NCAA is so old so a new one will be good. I was going to get NCAA when it came out but our Costco hasn't had them in stock yet. They only received their shipment for it for xbox360. So... since I know there are sales on these or a buy 2 get 1 or something, I've been waiting til there were games we wanted.

Is there only 1 laser in the Wii? Does the same laser read GC games as well as Wii games? They've been playing alot of GC games w/out a problem. He did have 1 (maybe 2 total) problems also with NBA, another EA Sports game.

I apologize if this has been asked/posted already. This thread is getting so long. I went back a few pages and didn't see it, so here goes...

Got WiiFit.:thumbsup2

Any reviews from Disers on WiiSki?

The WiiFit has ski jump, ski slalom, and snowboarding on it. We were just wondering if it would be worth it to get the WiiSki game or not. Thanks.

Also curious about:
Wii Does Sports (saw this in the Circuit City ad, can't find on IGN)
Go Diego Go Safari Rescue
DDR2
Cranium Kabookii
Big Beach Sports
Either Kawasaki Game
Any Kidz Sports Games

As for our reviews:
Hot Wheels Beat That!: DS7 gives this a 10 and plays it all the time
Cars: DS7 loves this one and gives it a "totaly 10"
WiiFit: whole family loves it so far DD3 likes that she can do the running game. Doesn't seem like young ages are considered much in some of the scoring.
DDR: We call the judge "Simon" cause he's rather harsh when rating your dancing. DD13 and I (Mom) love this one. DS7 tries, but hasn't done well, so isn't crazy about it (Look, Mom. I finally got a D!) DD3 can't participate in this one at all.
Cooking Mama: We don't play with this one as much as we thought we would.

I am just putting this out there because I have never knew this was on the message board. My name is Justin and I am a Nintendo addict. The best part about it is that one of my very good friends works for Nintendo of America. If you have any questions about games, accesories, general questions please feel free to ask. I have been playing ONLY Nintendo games since I was 8 years old, so I am now a 22 year veteran of the games. I have a Wii, 2 DS's, Gamecube, Gameboy Advance SP, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, NES, and a Virtual Boy. My Gameboy and Gameboy color no longer work and I haven't had time to get them fixed. I play video games at least 20 hours a week and also have 2 children, girls who are at different ages who like different types of games. So just ask I will most likely have an answer for you. Happy Gaming!

Yes only one laser..it pretty much just reads in the info onthe disc. The ability for the wii to play old Gamecube games is all in the chip set....the laser in the gamecueb is pretty mcuh the same kinda thing that is in a cd/dvd rom drive on a computer.

Thanks for the reviews....lets see if I can answer any of yoru questions.
1)Any reviews from Disers on WiiSki?--I know there were a few reviews of it a while back from disers...If I get time later i'll try to figure out where in the thread they are. If I remember corectly people were having fun with it and the balance board. My SUGGESTION however is...buy it if you find it cheap...otherwise wait for what looks to be a much better wii skiing/snowboarding game in Shawn White's Snowboarding.(comming this x-mas)
2)Wii Does Sports (saw this in the Circuit City ad, can't find on IGN)- Never heard of it..and If I havn't heard of it,and you can't find any reviews on it STAY FAR AWAY!!! This means they didn't send out any press copies which always equals bad game.
3)DDR2-obviously you like DDR1 for the wii..ddr 2 is pretty much along the same lines...if you liek one as much as you say there is nothing to stop you form getting DDR2
4)Cranium Kabookii
Big Beach Sports
Either Kawasaki Game
Any Kidz Sports Games
- havn't played any of them and they are pretty much shovelware (games made quickly to make a quick buck) you can get them cheap like $20.00 it might be worth messing around with...but usually these games aren't any good. My SUGGESTION is to take the money you would spend on these so-so games and pool it together to buy a great game or 2. I see you didn't mention that you guys had any of the big games like Mario Kart, SmashBros., Mario galaxy, ect. I HIGHLY suggest any of those games over the games you mentioned.
5)Go Diego Go Safari Rescue- again I know there was a review about it somewhere...but I think it was given a "pretty good" espically for the youngsters they the diser who reviewed it.

Welcome Justin!...what a coincidence..my name is Justin too, and just like you I have been playign Nintendo games all my life, own everything you mentioned..and have you beat by about 6 years(I'm 28)...otherwise I thought I was sleep writing posts on the dis!

Great to have a fellow LONG TIME gamer around to talk too..please don't be a stranger. I've been chomping at the bit to talk to other about the more traditional nintendo games((many of the questions I get are about casual style game play..ala carnival games, wii sports, dogz, ect.))Feel free to post reviews of any nintendo games on the wii, ds or VC you have time to post They are always helpful to the readers.
