Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Animal Crossing:City Folk was just confirmed for the Wii; it will be out by years end but I don't know if that means everywhere. It will have a voice chat option!

The Bon Jovi song, the Journey song, the Go-Go's song...that's the content my DW is really looking forward to playing/singing. :)

I don't know if I could choose between the two (RB2 and GH:WT).

GH:WT has some exclusives (Van Halen) that are pretty awesome. In addition, their "music studio" looks very interesting.

That being said...RB2 promises to have over 500 songs available by years end (between RB2 and the "importable" RB1 content). That's a pretty impressive list of content....

the 500 song thing is for the 360/ps3 only...since nintendo doesn't have a harddrive you can't stores songs form the other disc.

All info in the following few post is from ign.

E3 2008: Wii Sports Gets a Sequel

July 15, 2008 - Nintendo already announced the Wii Motion Plus peripheral yesterday, but at todays E3 2008 Nintendo Press Conference they announced the first game to use the add-on: Wii Sports Resort.

Wii Sports Resort is the sequel to the packed in Wii Sports title that comes with every Wii. Nintendo showed off three of the games featured in the title, all of which are themed around Summer beach sports.

The first game shown was a frisbee throwing minigame where players have to try and thrown a plastic disc to a certain spot so that their puppy can catch it.

The second game was a jet skiing minigame. Reggie Fils-Aime demoed the game, using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck as the handles of the jet ski. Accelerating is done by revving the Wii Remote like a throttle.

Sword fighting is another game that uses the Wii Motion Plus controls to simulate 1:1. Players can duel each other using lightsaber looking plastic swords. Nintendo demoed the game by having Nintendo executives try to kill each other on screen.

According to Nintendo, Wii Sports Resort launches globally next Spring.

E3 2008: WiiMusic Announced

July 15, 2008 - WiiMusic was announced at Nintendo's press conference. The new music game debuted with a gamer using the Wii's nunchuck and Wiimote as drum sticks. As he was air drumming with the controls, Nintendo's famed game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto came out playing the saxophone via the Wiimote alongside the drummer.

WiiMusic was developed for non musicians and musicians alike and will feature over 50 different virtual instruments like drums, saxophone, piano, violin, guitar, and more. Much like the virtual drums, players will have to mimic the real life movements of each respective instrument to play.

But what good is a music game if you can't play with your friends? Luckily you can form a band with WiiMusic. The demonstration for the game wrapped up with six people playing different musical instruments together.

No word yet on when the game will ship, or how much it will cost, but stay tuned to IGN to keep you updated.

Darn it..I always forget that part. :)

Hey...how does the track pack work, then? The one that just came out for Wii and PS2?

IGN: You've announced in-game downloadable content for the Wii. Not even Nintendo has done in-game downloadable content yet, so how did you end up being the first disc-based game to feature it? How will it work with the Wii's limited internal memory? Will you be able to use SD cards?
Karthik: DLC is something we've been looking at since GHIII. It was the most requested feature by Wii players and the team has really worked hard to deliver on this promise. I know there has been detractors who say the Wii can't do DLC for various technical reasons – and they are dead wrong. The system is quite capable.

The guys at VV are really passionate about Nintendo's platforms. We really try to push the limits of the hardware and deliver to Wii and DS gamers what they deserve. Yes, the Wii has limited storage and it has taken longer than we anticipated getting this feature fully working. But it works and it's cool.

GHWT Wii has an in-game Music Store, which allows players to preview, purchase and download new songs as we release them online. Players can purchase songs using their Wii Points. It's really easy. You can download to the Wii System Memory or store songs on an SD Card, called the "Rock Archive."
We have a new feature called "create-a-set list". So when you want to play songs you have purchased, you just make a custom set list of songs you wish to play from the Rock Archive, pick a venue and play!
So I guess the Wii will use the SD cards, so will any SD card work? I may lose a camera memory card if that is the case, oh well.

Also the answer on whether or not the new guitar will be compatible with older versions on the GH game, here is the answer.

IGN: Will Guitar Hero World Tour be compatible with the guitar that was sold with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock?
Karthik: Yes, absolutely! Anyone who bought the Les Paul guitar (with GHIII Wii or the upcoming GH Aerosmith Wii) can use them in Guitar Hero World Tour.

Darn it..I always forget that part. :)

Hey...how does the track pack work, then? The one that just came out for Wii and PS2?

It's just a seperate game pretty much. pop it in and play...no carry over form the first game as far as I know.

Now for the unshown stuff....((aka Nintendo didn't forget about the "core gamer"))

Shigeru Miyamoto (Nintendo's main man...you know the creator of Donkey Knog, Mario, Zelda, and Pikmin to name a few---and whom I will refer to as Shiggy from here on out) Danced around answering a few questions with Matt at IGN.com..but in around about way told us the following....
1) A Sequal to Mario Galaxy is being worked on at the moment.
2) A new Zelda Game is being worked on and has been since before the Launch of Twilight Princess.
3)Pikmin3 is in the works
4)Nintendo is working on how they want to solve the storage space issue...either with a hard drive or allowing stuff to be saved to sd cards and played directly form them.
5)New Super Mario Brothers 2 for the Ds is being made
6) A New Zelda Ds is being worked on

Nintendo has a special "developers only" conference tomarrow night at 6:00 PST...so as soon as I get any interesting info from that meeting I'll pass it along.

THK

4)Nintendo is working on how they want to solve the storage space issue...either with a hard drive or allowing stuff to be saved to sd cards and played directly form them.

I'm hearing (from a friend that works at Ubisoft in France) that Nintendo has a proposed solution involving SD cards which we should see by years end, and POSSIBLE plans for an add on storage peripheral (not a hard drive in the traditional sense) that's a bit further out.

July 16, 2008 - Nintendo has just announced (for the first time formally) that a new Pikmin is on the way.

During a developer roundtable at E3 2008, Nintendo creative mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed for the first time that Nintendo is indeed bringing back the beloved GameCube franchise, and we can only assume it's going to be for Wii.

Details on the game are sparse right now, but Miyamoto did casually mention "We're making Pikmin" during the roundtable presentation. He hinted earlier that a new Pikmin could be on the way – both in previous conferences and in our recent interview with him – but now it's officially official. Pikmin is making a return.

The nunchuck will fit into the bottom of the motionplus just like it fits into the wii mote. Think of the motionplus device to be an extended wii mote :rotfl:

E3 2008: Wii Remote Gets More Motion
Nintendo will reveal the MotionPlus accessory at this year's show.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/888/888837p1.html

by Craig Harris and Mark Bozon
July 14, 2008 - Players wondering if we'd ever see a true 1:1 experience on Wii need to wonder no more, as Nintendo announced today a new plug-in peripheral for the Wii remote, currently called Wii MotionPlus. Details are sparse so far, but Nintendo revealed the first snippets of information in a press release this morning. The following statement is -- in its entirety -- Nintendo's announcement of MotionPlus for Wii:

"Nintendo's upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player's arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo's commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing."

What we don't know, however, is how exactly MotionPlus will work with nunchuk controls, as the peripheral would need some sort of pass-through in order to give 1:1 motion to titles requiring analog control. The first shot above shows a small plug in the bottom of the attachment, which looks to be covering just such port, but we'll wait on Nintendo to give the final confirmation. Will we see first-person shooters that can make use of this technology? Will LucasArts find a way to adapt the upcoming Clone Wars game to include true 1:1 lightsaber technology, or could Nintendo beat them to it with a pack-in Link's Sword Fighting game (or news of a new Zelda Wii) to showcase MotionPlus? Will some sort of future "Wii-mote 2.0" automatically include MotionPlus, removing the need for an additional add-on peripheral? We'll have to wait and see how exactly the new technology works, and all signs point to Nintendo's keynote just 24 hours from now.

**MY guess is it will come packed with the first 1:1 ration game((starwars the force unleased maybe?)) I'll know more tomorrow. Also I bet all future wiimotes will come with it packed also. Just my guesses, but well have to wait and see.

Forgive me if anyone else mentioned this, but during their conference Nintendo announced that the Motion-Plus will come packaged with Wii Sports Resort and also be sold separately. They didn't mention whether future Wii Remotes will come packaged with Motion Plus but I hope so since I imagine more and more games will start to use it.

Also, apparently there will not be motion controls for Animal Crossing: City Folk! Actions will be performed using the buttons as in previous games.

That doesn't make sense. I can use my stylus to move them, so why couldn't I use my Wii remote? My DD is now out of AC, but may get back in it when it comes to the Wii with voice. She loves her Pokemon DS because she can talk over the WiFi with friends.

Sorry, I should have clarified that. Apparently for walking/running you can either point with your remote to lead your character along or you can steer with the nunchuck attachment. For interacting with items, though, you will press buttons instead of mimicking motions with the remote. So fishing will work like it has in the previous games rather than by "casting" with the remote. Many people, myself included, had assumed that all the actions involving tools would use the motion controls, so you'd swing the remote to chop down a tree or "dig" with it to dig up fossils. According to the reviews from people who've been using the hands-on demos at E3 that isn't the case. I'm really surprised by that because it seems such a logical choice to include the motion controls.
