Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Sorry, I should have clarified that. Apparently for walking/running you can either point with your remote to lead your character along or you can steer with the nunchuck attachment. For interacting with items, though, you will press buttons instead of mimicking motions with the remote. So fishing will work like it has in the previous games rather than by "casting" with the remote. Many people, myself included, had assumed that all the actions involving tools would use the motion controls, so you'd swing the remote to chop down a tree or "dig" with it to dig up fossils. According to the reviews from people who've been using the hands-on demos at E3 that isn't the case. I'm really surprised by that because it seems such a logical choice to include the motion controls.

You and me both...motion senesative fishing, digging and tree chopping makes far to much sense!!!

Guess they are stickign with buttons to keep it accessable to all ages.

Placed an order for this. Thanks. Now I just need to decide if I should let my kids play it now or wait for DS2's bday. Guess I'll have to see if I can hide it when it gets delivered as I'm sure they'll want to open it if they see where it's from!

OK, help me out here.

We know absolutely nothing about the guitar hero games...other than DS has played once or twice at a friend's house on PS2.

We don't own any system other than the gamecube and wii. I want to get him guitar hero for the wii for christmas. He would have no interest in an aerosmith version or some other kind of specialized version. So, I was looking at this at circuit city and wondered if this is the one I should buy. It seems like a pretty good deal.

Please advise me!

Thanks!

Subbing as I am looking for wii accessories for Christmas I need another controller and the guitar hero, and suggestions for other stuff and good prices !!

See Cruisnfamily's post for a link to a great GHIII deal!!!!

As for other stuff and deals...you probably wont see very many deals on the accessories(unless they are offbrand) Other then another controler((which You may want to wait to see if they add wiimotion pluss to come x-nmas time)) you really don't need anything! I do suggest the NYKO Charger..but that's about it.

What types of accessories were you thinking of???

Should have bought it when I posted this! Now it's not available online....I'll have to go to the store and there isn't one convenient to me and with weekend plans, the soonest I'll get there is Monday. I hope the deal is still going. Did you see the extra 10% off link too...it works out to something like $54 total. Wish I got in on it when it was available online!

Anyway, thanks for the advice, sounds like this would be the one to get for DS12's first foray into the GH games!

If your just talking about the standard wiimote..then yes it will work with the wii motion plus when it comes out with wiisports2(wiiresort) this holiday. Talk is that around holiday time the motion plus will also begin to be packed with the wiimotes. That said not all games will use motion plus and if you already have 2 controlers then I suggest you buy Wiisports2 this x-mas along with a second motion plus(which will be sold seperatly for all the wiimotes already out there without it) (not all games in the future will even use it, so it's really just and add on at this point)

No problem...I can always help more if I know what type of thing your looking for.

Um wiiresort comes out 2009, not this holiday season....:confused3

You are correct...

I was kinda including jan/feb (when it should arrive) in the holiday season. Working retail for so long I always lumped these "after season" sales and returns into the holliday season..just an old habit.

We keep getting an error saying to turn off our Wii, I don't know if it's the game (Madden 08) or the system. My son has really just started playing this game and so far this is the only game that is getting the message.

When he was playing it just a bit ago the whole screen went really dark in the middle of a play. I asked the kids to turn it to tv/cable so I could determine if it was that or the game/system, but my other son jumped up and turned the tv off instead. So I still don't know.

Of course when he turned it back on right away the picture was fine. Have you heard of these kind of problems? I sure hope it isn't the Wii system, we bought it Feb 07.

Admit I haven't read EVERY post... Yet, anyway- But I figured w/ all the knowledge you guys seem to have... (I just buy them and the kids do all the playing :confused3 )
I have heard about the Pal Mickey... and someone mentioned that there is going to be or there is a program, game, :confused3 something that will enable the kids DS lite's to do much the same that Pal Mickey does w/ much more involved- Still not sure exactly what it was they were talking about but any info would be much appreciated

not sure what to tell you....teh error message would make me think that it is the game(espically if it's the only wii game doing it).

Could be the system but again if NO OTHER games are causeing it to error the game sounds more likely.

But then you mention he turned off the tv and turned it back on and it was fine....this sounds like a tv problem.

My suggestion is next time it shows the message write down exactly what it says then call nintendo all tell them what it is saying..they should be able to tell you right away if it's a system or game error. If it's a game error you will then have to contact Electronic Arts(EA- them makers of madden).

Hope that kinda sorta helps...lol

At this point nothign like that exists. Although I'm pretty sure my wife was just telling me the other day about Disney working on somethign like this..to allow users to bring their Nintendo Ds's into the parks and use them.

Disney did a test run with the xmarks the spot and the pirates game a year or so ago. You could bring your ds with the game to the park and download special items to the game pack at the x spots around the world.

I agree a mY pal micky game for the ds would be a cool idea...where they interact with micky as the go to new attractions...but I'm not 100% sure if it's being made or not. MY DW(Harley QUinn) I'm sure will stop in soon..if she was talkign about somethign like this maybe she can find you mroe info.

NEVER MIND I GOT THE INFO!!!!

As of right now the Nintendo DS Disney World Map is in beta testing((seeing if it will work or not))

Why bother with the repeated folding and unfolding of a traditional paper map until the edges start to wear, when you can just flip open your portable? With the help of a special cartridge, Disney plans to give tech-savvy visitors a better way to get around their famous theme parks.

Rumored some months ago, Disney’s Magic Connection is apparently now in the testing phase, but you’ll need your Nintendo DS to use it. Packed with a GPS locator, the software allows you to pinpoint your exact location at any time on the digital map. As expected, the stylus can also be used to scroll around or zoom in and out on the bottom screen.

But wait, it does more!

Magic Connection also uses wi-fi to key into the park’s OneSource network, a hefty information hub used chiefly by staff to keep track of various park activities in real time. While your average visitor won’t be able to access everything OneSource has to offer, the pertinent bits (such as ride wait times) will be available to guests.

And those silly itineraries your mom always makes are present, too. You can pick and choose attractions/restaurants/events around the park and add them to a built-in wishlist, checking them off as you complete each item.

To top it all off, the cartridge comes with trivia and several mini-games that unlock when visiting appropriate areas of the park, giving you something else to do while waiting in those never-ending lines. Some can even be played along with other people.

But if you’re expecting to walk into the Magic Kingdom today with your brand-spanking-new DS Lite, be warned — Disney is currently only offering park-furnished units for the test. According to certain testers, the custom handhelds seem to be outlined in a sort of foam covering (likely to guard against any bumps and bruises) that conceals a memory expansion cart.

It’s currently unknown whether the final product will be offered to visitors who bring their own portables or if they’ll continue to use said rentals. Likewise, the existing set of features will no doubt be tweaked/expanded as Magic Connection nears release.

Hope that gives you the info you were looking for.

I am torn about this DS idea at the parks. It's hard enough for me to get my DD and her friends to put their Nintendo's down to do anything. Now, they'll be walking through the parks with their noses in the game rather than watching where they go. But the game idea does sound like a lot of fun. I just don't know how many people would want to rent a DS while on vacation. Maybe I'd just bring my DS as the "responsible" adult in the family, if that's how they release this.

"Eject the game disc and turn the wii off, see manual for more information."

This is what I'm told the error was when playing Madden 08. When playing NBA the tv went dark again, so maybe we have a tv and wii problem?

The kids have taken the cords on and off to switch the Wii to another tv since we bought it so maybe the connectors are going bad???:confused3

HUMMM never had that happen..Could be the cords, but usually they wound't cause an error to pop up on screen just cause it not to be seen. I suggest callign nintendo...thier customer service is always very reliable.
