Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Just an fyi.... I saw a used PS2 system at GameStop for $25. Can't beat that price! :thumbsup2 My ds (who's life goal is to own every game system) has purchased several systems used and they all still work great.

We went with the Wii GH versus the PS2 GH because the PS2 isn't wireless while the Wii version just slips the wiimote into the back. We found our Wii GH at GameStop at the mall about 10 days before Christmas so I think you have plenty of time to get one by spring. :goodvibes

We had extended Christmas here - my family (over 18 people) on Christmas day, then dh's out of state family (over 30 people) for 3 days after Christmas. The Wii got a LOT of play time. Everyone kept playing GH or bowling with Dodgeball from the Playground game being the most popular game. We had to turn the system off Saturday night for an hour because things were starting to go haywire and I was afraid it was overheating.

Because of all the family here, dd and ds haven't really had a chance to play Super Mario Galaxy, Star Wars Complete Saga or Mario/Sonic Olympics. Based on the reviews, I think I would have told them to not open Olympics, so we could exchange it, but I was too late. Let's hope they figure it out!

ok i'm going to TRY and buy my kids a wii for christmas of 08, i figure i have a year to save and buy what we'll need. i've looked but not through 116 pages so Sorry but what should i buy for the wii besides the wii itsself the wiimote charger and some games? Thanks.

Sorry if this is answered somewhere...I can't get the search function to work.

Is there any way to save your game when you are in the middle of a level on Star Wars Lego? Once my son completes a level then he can start on that level, but when he only has a few minutes to play and then has to stop he gets very frustrated that he has to start the level over. Are we missing something? Can't figure out how to do this...we are new WII owners...just got it for Christmas!

Thanks!

Ever since we opened the Wii on Christmas Day we have gotten error messages when inserting discs. DH finally called Nintendo like the manual says to do and they are going to send us packaging and shipping info so we can send it back to them. They'll either repair it or replace it.

I am so not looking forward to 7 - 10 days of no Wii. I just know DSs will ask everyday if the new Wii came yet. :dance3:

I'm really happy that Nintendo is going to take care of the problem though. :thumbsup2

anyone play this game? Is it any good?

would this game or singstar 80's for PS2 be a better party game for adults in their mid 30's and lots of booze?

Go back to page one...the very first 2 post's should answer most of your questions...if you still need help after that ask away.

As far as I know....NO! (although try hitting the + sign...it brings up a menu in mpost games maybe there?) Most games in the style of LSW will not let you save in the middle of a level. My suggestion is if you only have a "little" amount of play time to play something like wiisports that is quick and fun. Sorry I can't make him less frustrated.

bummer....sounds like you had a bad disc drive in your wii. Nintendo is usually pretty quick with turn around. Let us know how long it officially takes for it to get back to you once you send it.

Boogie is TRASH! to put it nicely....stay away at all costs.

singstar80's will be way more fun for a bunch of 30's playing while trashed.((as is Rockband! Mario party = the greatest drinking game ever if you know the rules on who has to drink and when!))

So, DD15 got DDR for the Wii for Christmas. She was out last night and DS12 and friend decided to have a go at it......they must have played for 3 hours if not more!!! Who would have thought that 2 uncoordinated 12 year old would be so hooked? I didn't even think DS would have an interest in it, but he did. They had a great time! (They're terrible though! Nowhere near as good as DD and they couldn't unlock anything for her which was what they were trying to do but they had fun trying!)

My head was starting to hurt watching Zak and Wikki....I just don't have the many step thought process down...you know, do this then do this then go back and do this other thing...Argh! They ended up quitting on some level with a big guy who sweeps away your footprints in the snow. They had it mostly figured out but gave up. I'm sure it will be revisited today.

Mario and Sonic Olympics is getting played but still not a favorite or big hit.

So, that was my NYE Wii report. Was anybody else playing last night?

The WII Yes
wii mote charging station Up to you, if you don't get this, get rechargeable batteries
3 extra controllers and nunchucks If it were me, I'd start out with 1 extra remote which I would get by buying WiiPlay and 1 extra nunchuck
Wii points Only necessary if you want to download old games off the virtual console. My son does this and likes it but he's only spent a total of $35 in the entire year that we've had it so 1 $20 card should be fine to get started
charging stand You already listed this above, don't need 2 of them
cooling stand Not necessary at all, don't get this
wi-fi usb connector Not necessary if you have a wireless router
Carnival games A game of mini games. We don't own this but it looks fun
wii play Buy this to get an extra remote
m&ms kart racing Never heard of this
racing wheel I've heard this is worthless
shooting gun I've heard this is worthless
Kidz sportz soccer Never heard of this
Super mario galaxy Yes!!
Backyard football No opinion on this one
Cooking mama No opinion on this one
Playground No opinion on this one
D.D.r with mat Yes!!!
C.S.I Hadn't heard this was a game
Balloon pop Never heard of this
Ghost Squad Never heard of this
anything else?

My thoughts are in Magenta above

I found the games on the nintendo website and through ebay search,
csi would be for dbf along with ghost squad i thought the gun might make it like an arcade game um the m&ms kart racing looks fun it was at target this weekend
sorry it was supposed to be charging station not stand the wii mote charging stand is only for 2 wiimotes so i thought if i buy that and the charging station i could charge all 4 wiimotes at once?
Sportz soccer is supposed to be coming out soon it's not out yet,
all this wii searching (researching) makes me want one now and not wait till next year. Time to relax...

For those of you interested in a shooting attachment, I wouldn't recommend it. DS#2 insisted that a Wii Blaster was one of his top 3 things to get from Santa. So Santa brought it for him. I really wish we hadn't wasted the $20 for it! It is bulky and not really easy to use. DH is scared that one of the wiimotes will be broken taken it in or out of the blaster so it is just sitting in the corner being unused now!!!

If anyone wants to get something like a wii blaster, get the wii zapper. Its only $20 PLUS it comes with Links Crossbow Training Game. I got this for my brother in law and for my DH for christmas. I dunno about any review from my brother-in-law. As for DH he hasnt even unwrapped it since hes deployed, but will at the end of the month. So I can give you the review then. The wii zapper has always gotten good reviews while the wii blaster have always gotten horrible reviews. Even the guys at the gamestop I go to all the time, told me the wii blaster was crap. To read reivews go to gamestop.com and type in wii blaster. It should come up with search results for both wii blaster and the wii zapper.

we played carnival and had a blast! We also enjoy Mario Party!

The WIIYep, check! ;)
wii mote charging station Not completely necessary, but worth it IMO--Nyko brand only!
3 extra controllers and nunchucksprobably a good idea, but you might not need the nunchucks right away if you want to cut costs
Wii pointsonly if you want to download something--better to look and see if there is something they want and THEN buy the card--we still haven't used any points.
charging stand ? The wiimote charger? You said that already--no other stand needed
cooling standDO NOT BUY THIS! You don't even begin to need it.
wi-fi usb connectorif you need it(no wireless router) We can give more info if needed--this can be confusing
Carnival gamesa family favorite
wii playif you get this you only need 2 more wiimotes not 3
m&ms kart racingMario Kart will be out by Christmas and I HIGHLY recommend it over m&ms
racing wheelit's just plastic, but up to you
shooting gunNyko is releasing a new zapper next month and it's the one I recommend(see next couple of answers)
Kidz sportz soccerNever heard of it--Mario Strikers Charged is the best soccer game
Super mario galaxydefinitely
Backyard footballit's not great, so it would be down on my list
Cooking mamagood
Playgroundyou're getting an awful lot of games, esp multiplayer
D.D.r with mat:thumbsup2
C.S.Ihaven't seen anything about this one
Balloon popor this
Ghost Squadfor DH right? not kid friendly
anything else? Nothing you NEED, but I think there are better games coming out that might replace a few you mentioned by next Christmas

Responses in Purple--thanks Cruisin for giving your opinion too!

How much did you pay?
sorry it was supposed to be charging station not stand the wii mote charging stand is only for 2 wiimotes so i thought if i buy that and the charging station i could charge all 4 wiimotes at once? Confused here...I think I know what you mean...you're better off buying two wiimote charging stations...you don't need the whole cooling-charging station.

Our Wii zapper is just sitting there too. It probably won't hurt the wiimotes, but the crappiness of it is more of a reason not to use it. It's too bulky, but Nyko is releasing a handgun looking version which is what Nintendo should have done(they wanted to be PC tho). It's highly recommended by IGN and I think it's the best way to play any shooters.

Actually the wii zapper is what I don't like. It's huge and bulky and isn't responsive. I think the new Nyko one will be the way to go.

As for NYE, we played Rockband on the 360, which I love. And we played Lego Star Wars, which is awesome. And we broke out Happy feet for like 5 seconds cuz it was terribly boring for us 27 yos. lol

Happy New Year!

Are you guys sure we're talking about the same thing here? The WII ZAPPER. NOT the wii blaster. I saw the wii zapper out of the box and its not that bulky at all. Sure its a little big, but it has to be in order to fit the wiimote and the nunchuck on it. As for the gun Nyko is releasing, does it hold both the wiimote and nunchuck? Something tells me it just holds the wiimote and thats it. I just found out from my sister they love the wii zapper. They dont have any problems with theirs whats so ever. maybe your settings on your wii is off.

VERN,
Just letting you know you do not have to buy wii point cards. You can very simply just go under the wii shop channel and purchase your points right on there. You pay with a debit or credit card. This is how we buy our points instead of having to run out and buy the cards. This is also good if you dont have the points and theres a game you want to download. You just simply buy the points on the wii shop channel and they instantly show up on your account.

We got Wario and Raw vs. Smackdown tonight, more Wii games to try out...=o) This $250 system is adding up...lol.

ok iso i played carnival at my neighbors house and it was a blast, i want to get it for myself, as an update i have 15 stars in super mario and you were right its not getting anyeasier, but i have been able to manage altho i have had to go online to read some walkthrus before continuing...lol

Nope.

I have the lego games, though for 360, and you can't save "mid level" in any of them.

Slightly OT, but in the same vein:

My wife and her best friend were hanging out, scrapbooking, and I was playing Rock Band (the drums, that night).

By the end of the night, my wife was singing, her friend playing guitar, as I pounded on the drum kit.

LOTS of fun! :)
