Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Why would you lose interest? It's a fantastic game. I'm still playing mine (we've had it for a while). It definitely has a major lasting appeal, much more so than other games.

We lost interest quickly in Guitar Hero, I barely find time (or space) to do Wii Fit, and it's been a while since we've played Mario Kart. So I'm worried about buying a game that will take up lots of space and not get used.

Yes those were exactly my thoughts too. Ever since RB was announced my kids have been saving up their money for it, then the day before it's out we find out about GH World Tour (Oct release date), so needless to say they weren't thrilled about having to wait until Oct now for the same type game.

But like you said, I can't see having 2 sets of everything since they aren't compatible with each other.

I read where RB for the Wii is releasing a new disc with additional songs in a few months because the Wii doesn't have the hard drive space, don't know the cost of the disc.

An another topic, GH On Tour (released yesterday also) for the DS got a 9.0 rating over at IGN, anyone have any first hand experience with that. I read the review and IGN was surprised the game was as good as it is. It's definitely not the same as playing with the guitar but for something to take with you and is portable they really liked it.

Yep, we have it. DH already played through on easy and is working on medium now. I think he really really likes it. It's very sturdy and works really well. I'll let him tell you more.

I lost interest in GH too and I only played Mario Kart once!

We have friends over every other week to play games and since we got RB, it's what we do. We all take turns on the different instruments. As soon as I'm bored with singing, I switch to drums or guitar. It's a super social, super fun time. By yourself...not so much. Though I do play that way to get better for the group. It's very very different from the other games you mentioned due to the social aspect. But with big doubts--I wouldn't drop that much cash.

Maybe you can find someone else you know that has it and try it out first?

hello eveyone. I have a coupon for $20 off wii game. I received it last week when I purchased Wii Fit. I need help deciding what game to purchase.

We have
Mario galaxy, Smash Bro, MArio Kart, Smooth moves, Carnival games, Ravin Rabbids.
I was hoping to get a game that utilizes the motion controllers.
I was looking at Star Wars: complete sage but, we have it for PS2.

Any suggestions would be great. DS=10 and DD=7, DH loves to play Wii Sport tennis

Thanks

For my money...Mario Galaxy is BY FAR the best of the bunch...but Smash and Kart are super fun also...and have online play!

The only system we have is Nintendo and right now we aren't planning to purchase another. Our dilemma is that the kids wanted Rock Band and now they see this and want that but we don't really want (need) both. Just reading the info the GH World Tour seems like it has more features than Rock Band so now we need to decide what to do and if we wait, Oct. seems far away.

Save and wait for World Tour....the bands I have already seen listed as havign songs by far blows Rockband out of the water!

$29.99 will have 35 additional songs(songs already avaliable for download on the 360/ps3 version)--which is a good deal seeing as the songs are aprox $2.00 a piece!!(x's35=$60.00 value) At least that was the last price I heard...they had the info at ign...you'll just have to search through the site.

FANTASTIC!!! It by plays far better then I ever Imagined!
I beat it on easy yesterday..and am halfway through medium. It is a different challange then holding the guitar...but it's still fun and addictive.

The early stages have alot of POP ROCK..No Doubt, Maroon 5, ect. the later levels get more classic rock and get much harder.

Only 2 complaints...1) With only 25 songs it's not nearly as long as playing it on the wii or 360. 2) because of the weight of the ds..my wrist holding the system seems to get sore quickly..I can only play for about 45-60minutes before havign to take a break.((I know it's alot of play time..but it doesn't feel like it while playing))

Any Questions about it?

BTW the Guitar Pick Stylus is so cool!!! The game is super responsive..Activision did a great job!

off topic...Toys R US has a buy2 get one free DS games this week...and yes GH:DS can be used in it...I bought that along with a copy for my buddy(who paid me) and got Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers for the wife free..(a $34.99 value)

It's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates (ha! I typed farts instead of fates....lol:rotfl: ) :p

Boom Blocks is an incredible game. I've found Nintendo platforms (Wii, DS) to be very kid friendly. The platforms are geared towards protecting our kids from a random stranger's influence. From a parents perspective, it's almost too restrictive (although I tend towards being safe versus the alternative).

BB is the one created by Steven Spielburg. That's a big name for a video game!

Glad you all like it!

glad you all like Boom Blox...definately wasn't the type of game I was hopeing Speilberg was going to make...but at least it's a fun game.

I just bought a Wii [will get it by mail end of this week] and read thru the first 6 pages but did not find the answers I need. So can someone please help me with my queries

1. Do we really need another remote and nunchuk? Its just DS5, me and DH.
2. I understand Wii has a hard drive so if I rent a game say from blockbuster can i just copy it on my hard drive or a SD card?
3. Is browsing the internet thru the wii [i understand we have to buy the browser] same as regular computer browsing? Like I can come on dis and everything thru there?

1) You DON'T have to have a nunchuck for most games. I highly suggest a second wiimote however. IF you guys want to play any 2 player games you'll need it!((I also suggest investing in the $29.99 wiimote charger by Nyko.))
---TO further talk about the wiimote/nunchuck subject, on the back of the games in the upper right hand corner of the the case you will see some a list of how many and what type of controler you can use/need for the game.
2)Not sure what you mean copy it to your hard drive?...you will put all game saves on on the wii itself. You should have plenty of room unless your going to download a ton of old games. If this doesn't answer your question please clarify the question for me...I think I understand what your saying.
3)In Short Yes....it's a little tougher since you won't really have a keyboard to type with...it's very tedius(sp?) to point at the keyboard on screen...I mostly use my internet on there to watch youtube videos on my tv....but I have posted to the dis form there.

hope that helps...any other questions feel free to ask and welcome to the club.

Just a quick post about Lego Indiana Jones. We used our free game rental from Blockbuster this month on it and have been enjoying it a lot. Two player the whole game, not just for one or two mini games like so many of the games that say they are two player are. Lots of fun. Some frustrating moments trying to figure out what you are supposed to do, but nothing a little Googling can't fix, haha. We love the lego horses and camels, they make us laugh every time. A good bit of humor thrown in and all of the music is straight from the movies so it has a great soundtrack. This is one we might end up buying.

I am trying to ask is if I rent a game and the return it can i save it on my wii and then play later without the DVD?

No. You cant do that with any game for any system. You HAVE to have the disk in order to play any game including Wii, PS2 / PS3, Xbox, etc. Only way you dont need a disk to play a game is if you download it off the wii shop channel. If you ever found a way to copy a game onto a hard drive, it would be copy right infringement and its illegal. It would be the same thing if you copied DVD's. And if you ever got caught you would be facing jail time and a lot of $ in fines. Dont think you wanna be put through that for a $50 game ;)

NOPE!! you can't do that on any home system! (remember the goal is to get you to buy the game for $50.00 not pay $5.00 then let you play if for free!!)

In fact it's harder and harder to even do that on the computer without hacking the games codeing, which is possible with a little know how ;)

You can keep a save file that will let you pick up where you were if you buy it or re rent it..but you cannot save a whole game to play later on the internal memory or an sd card. (which would be highly illegal if you could do it)

ok so i came across some $$ and I really want a Wii. Now the thing is I have two little ones 3 and almost 5. Are there kids games that I could get for them.

So talk me into buying one or talk me out of buying one.

Pros and cons. My best friend has one with guitar hero and I thought it was awesome!! I would like to get the wii fit also if I end up getting it. HELP! I really shouldnt buy it but I think my kids and I deserve it!! ;)

We managed to snag a Wii Fit (just came in on the truck the night before :cool1: :cool1: ) and it was a lot of fun and hard work :thumbsup2

I was really suprised at how detailed it was. Even the running - off the board - was highly realistic to my body movements. I can see why this one is so hard to find! I can already see it as the "it" product at Xmas :goodvibes

All I can say is...As long as you still have money for food...BUY IT!!!

Games liek Guitar Hero, and Wii fit would be perfect for you.

While the 3yr old may have a hard time with most games...the 5 year old should understand enought to play games such as Baseball, Mario Kart.

There are plenty of "kids" games avaliable...again the 3yr old may have a hard time without help..but there should be some even they can do. The 5year old may also need help now and again, but should find plenty more game that are age appropriate.

I do not have any kids, so I can't answer in any more detail as to specific kids games for those ages, but someoone on this thread should be able to point out a few perfect games for those ages.

4 NEW NINTENDO SUMMER GAMES ANNOUNCED!

2 for wii and 2 for ds
From IGN.COM

Nintendo Unveils Summer Lineup
Mascots return and new titles are announced.
by Daemon Hatfield
June 25, 2008 - Today Nintendo shed some light on what we can expect for the Wii and DS this summer. The company has at least four first-party games in cue, two for each system. First up will be the baseball game Mario Super Sluggers on August 25. No big surprise there. But then things start to get interesting.

Nintendo revealed the secret project Big Fish Games has been working on: Mystery Case Files -- MillionHeir for the DS. The long-running series has been puzzling Macs and PCs for years. Players will use their stylus to find hidden clues in various scenes. There will also be puzzles involving the DS microphone. MillionHeir will be a DS-exclusive Mystery Case Files, and the first in the series to include a multiplayer mode. This one is launching September 8.

Then September 29 will see the return of two popular Nintendo Mascots: Wario and Kirby. Wario Land Shake, recently announced for Japan, will make its way stateside with the title Wario Land Shake It! The bad guy's latest adventure is a 2D side-scroller that requires players to shake the remote to perform various actions.

The new Kirby game is a DS re-imagining of a Super Nintendo favorite, Kirby Super Star. The update will be titled Kirby Super Star Ultra and will include fully animated cut scenes. Kirby will once again copy his enemies' abilities and battle King Dedede and Meta Knight. The DS game will feature new modes called Revenge of the King and Meta Knight Ultra, and new touch screen mini-games for Download Play. There is even a local co-op mode for two.

2 player the whole game? So one person can't play by themselves? Are you sure they didn't select 2 player? My kids have said they want this but I'm afraid if it's only always a 2 player game that it won't be a good game for my kids as their interests are different. My one son loses interests quickly in role playing games and would rather be playing his sports.

I tried to search and find the answer but didn't find it addressed anywhere, only that it said it was for 2 players but that didn't exactly say always only 2 players.

I know for sure that you can play one player. It would be crazy for someone to make a 2 player only game. Even Rock band with it's party aspect allows for 1 player--mario party does too...
