Any suggestions on a wii game for a 5 year old girl?

Or should we buy her a nintendo DS and a game? She's not terribly responsible and she can't really read yet.

ETA: She really likes animals, sponge bob, pokemon, anything active/sports. Not much of a girly girl except when friends are over.

Try Disney Princesses or Go, Diego, Go's Animal Rescue Adventures. My DD6 loves both of these games! You may even be able to buy them used at GameStop or other used game seller.

My best advice is try to rent the games before buying them...I've heard so many people rave about the " cooking mama " and I bought this for 35.00 and I personally don't really care for it, I wish I would have rented it and took my own advice.

I do think you should wait a bit for a DS. At that age my DD had the Leapster. The games were age appropriate and educational. (ETA - the system also can take a good beating.) As for the Wii, Mario Kart would be fun as long as they don't get upset if they lose. We haven't tried out Diego, because I don't need my 2 year old also taking up the Wii.

Thanks! We decided to pass on the DS. Her brother got one in 2nd grade (age 7). She can wait.

I think we're going to buy mario kart and also it's a good suggestion to look used for licensed stuff and I want to see if I can find the princess game for when she has girly friends over.

A friend borrowed our wii notes. Now how do I get them back to working on our Wii? I can never remember to get the person in the know in our house to do it. The lights just blink on them.

You need to sync them. I can't remember exactly haw to do it. You have to hit the red button on the Wii and stuff. It's all in the Wii user manual with nice pictures.

It's probably on www.nintendo.com somewhere too.

To sync the wii mote back to the wii all you have to do is press the red button on both the wii and wii mote. Press and hold for like 5 seconds. Press the one on wii first and then immediately press the one on wii mote. Make sure the wii mote is also facing the sensor bar when you do this.

Mario Kart for the Wii!!

IMHO giving a young child a DS is a BAD idea. It could very easily get broken, the touch screen could get very scratched even with screen protectors.
I would recommend giving a child a DS unless they were about 10 yrs old.

I think it depends on the 5yo. We gave DD6one for her birthday, she took care very good care of it physically but she snuck it to school where it was stolen.

Where did you guys get Mario Kart? I want to get it for DS' Birthday but can't find it. I haven't seen it at Costco and Amazon is selling them from a 3rd party, which I don't want to do. I just don't have time to visit several stores to find it. I'd prefer to get it at Costco. Do you think it will be easier to get in a few months?

I picked up Lego Indiana Jones at Costco for $44. I figured if I can get MK I'll save IJ for Santa.

We preordered it, so I can't really help. I am surprised you can't find it. I saw it at Target & Walmart the other day.

Maybe ask at Costco when they might get more in?

Hmm, titled NCAA 09 All Play but still has advanced features. I like all the themed stuff but not sure how much my son will like it. He still plays his old Madden, NBA, and FIFA for the GC instead of the Wii versions! Maybe this will be the game to get him to switch?

Although not sure when we'll get this, as both kids really want the new GH Aerosmith and Rock Band when they come out and have been saving up for these, I doubt they'll have enough money for more than these 2 games.

Anybody getting Topspin Tennis when it comes out next week? To me tennis is probably one of the things that best uses the wii motes so I can't wait for this one. I get a bit bored with the tennis game that came with the wii, I like the ability to choose different players and customize and all that stuff. Plus Topspin Tennis is so much more realistic.

At least you have the option of getting it! Especially after we had doubts it would ever come back to Nintendo.

I suggest you wait for the reviews. A lot of these games are either good or horrible, so don't chance buying one of the terrible ones.
