Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

That's a great point!! I've been assuming it will work but I completely forgot about the new features. I still believe the old guitars will be compatible, but I can't answer for sure right now. :(

If you've opened it and played it, I don't think returning it is an option.
GHWT comes out in October. I wouldn't be too upset. RB is awesome and very well supported with new songs and stuff. ANd that is a very good price if you got all the instruments with it. I don't know why you'd want to use the HSM mic and the RB mic since you can't have two singers at one time, but it's good to know if one of the mics bites the dust!

I wouldn't be too upset with the purchase. RB is proven to be totally awesome and while I trust in GH, no one knows how good it will be yet.

But again if you haven't bought RB yet, I would wait until GHWT comes out if you have another GH game.

Hopefully the guitars will work with any GH and you just won't use that extra feature.

For returning RB, if they like it, I'd keep it, but if you really want to return it, if Sams is like Costco they'll prob take it back, but like I said if they're playing it and they like it how can you take it back for something that comes out in 3-4 months? I think the Costco price was $157 for RB.

I have to say has anybody played GHA yet? I am a little dissapointed with the song selection and the game play. I thought it woul dbe more like GH3 where you do boss battles but you only get to battle joe perry at the end and then a couple songs and you beat the game. I guess im just a little disapointed. anybody eles played it yet?

My DH likes it but we never bought the other ones so we have nothing to compare it to.

I got CSI om WII yesterday and we have not been able to stop playing it! It is soooo fun...we have only been playing things like WII sports and game party, but the CSI game is great....I got it at gamestop for 19.99 and the guy told me if I finish it before 7 days to return it!It has 3 cases and we have been on it so much we are on the 3rd case lol the big help is dh is a cop so he is really on his game! lol

I had heard that the game was surprisingly good. Thanks for the review!! It's always nice to find a good game at a great price!

I am frustrated. I got Rockband for Wii and even though we love it I am wishing I could get a 2nd guitar. Any news of them coming out with one? I was hoping Nintendo would get one to work between RB and GH, but that looks like a definite no-go with the new GH:WT coming out. Maybe I should've waited til October....

Just Thoguht I'd tell you...YOU CAN GET A 2ND GUITAR!!!!
I saw the official Rockband Guitar(for the wii) for sale at Best Buy today...$59.99.

Thanks! I'll have to check it out. I looked online and thought I read somewhere that there wasn't one out yet. Guess I need to do better research. THink they'll come out with another version with extra songs and a guitar? If so, maybe I can hold out for that....

Yes GHIV:WT will be sold in a "band set" pretty much identical to the rockband set of game, guitar, mic, and drumset. Rumored price is $179.99 ($10 cheaper the RB)...and the guitar has new features that no prefious guitar has had(a touch pad nech for moding sounds more like a real guitar)

What exactly is the nech? The buttons are the fret, right?

Less than 2 wks now for NCAA football on the Wii. :yay:

This is from the first post on this thread. Lots of faq's answered there but as far as best games I quoted the text here. It all depends what interests your child has, go to ign and read the review. Also if you're unsure of a game consider renting it first. One of my kids likes the role playing games like Mario Galaxy and Lego Star Wars and the other likes sports like Madden, NBA and FIFA. They both like Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart and Guitar Hero.

If you want a specific review for a specific game go to this site FIRST!!! http://wii.ign.com
Game recommendations are at the end of this post!

If you’re just getting started go here, it’s much prettier than this little FAQ:
http://wii.ign.com/launchguide/

Game recommendations:

General (our favorite games):
Mario Galaxy, Zack & Wiki, Harry Potter, Rayman, Guitar Hero, Paper Mario, Zelda, Madden (football), Wii Play (for the extra remote)...

Best Party, Family or mulitplayer games:
Mario Party 8 (not as good as old ones), Rayman Raving Rabbids (2 especially for multiplayer), Wii Play (just for the extra wiimote), Wario Ware, Carnival Games, EA's Playground

Ages 5-7:
All of the Party games + Mario Stikers (soccer), MySims, most movie games if the child really loves the movie/character (be careful and check IGN first though). High School Musical Sing It?

Ages 8-12:
Party games + Lego Star Wars, Madden, MySims, Mario Stikers (soccer), Paper Mario, Harry Potter, Zack & Wiki, Mario Galaxy, Dance Dance Revolution

Ages 13+:
Zelda, Guitar Hero (only b/c it's rated Teen for the song lyrics, younger kids can play and will enjoy), Metroid, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles for the older teens (bloody zombies).

This list will grow and evolve. Don't hesitate to ask for more personal recommendations!
I'll add more as I think of it!

thanks for the list. I had gone through the list but wondered which games they could play without reading. My DD4 found My sims hard, because she never knew where to go. The games that talk and let you know where to go are good. Our kids selection at our video store is limited, did try my sims, and and few others that were supposidly all ages, but most she could not do. She did enjoy Surfs up but even i found it hard to unlock some areas ;) .
How would the Barbie and Princess games be for the younger girls?

I think it's later this month or next month they already have a second disc of Rockband songs arriving for the Wii....It will be sold as Game only and should retail for $29.99 (should have about 35 new songs)

I ment Neck....I obviously can't type...my mind thinks faster then my fingers, and I'm just too lazy to go back and fix typo's! :)
That's why the wife made me put the typo gif in my signature.

yes the buttons are supposed to be the frets of a guitar. The touch pad will be sitting just below those on the neck of the guitar.

As far as I know Barbie and the Disney Princess game should be just fine for your DD4.

How would the Barbie and Princess games be for the younger girls?

We have the Disney Princess and the Diego (from Dora the Explorer) games for my DD (5). Haven't seen the Barbie game, will have to look for it. The princess game she really enjoyed once she figured out the different ways to use the wiimote as the magic wand and had played through the story once. I don't recall there being a lot of words on the screen to tell you what to do, it seemed to be mostly verbal suggestions from the fairy creature that helps you out.

Diego was actually better than I expected. The game tells your child what to do using verbal commands and a little demo shows them how to do the motion at the bottom corner of the screen. She finished the game in under a week, (her dad's a bit more lenient with Wii time than I am) and has started going back to collect anything she missed on the first go-around.

I think the princess game was $19.99 at Target, and I found Diego for $29.99 at GameStop. We also have MarioKart and Cars, but she still gets frustrated with the driving and controlling her vehicle; she definitely prefers the princess game and Diego.

The Barbie game is called Island princess. I will definetly check out Diego. I thought i would pass on Mario as she gets frustrated with controllers.

We just got MarioKart and DS4.9 (lol, he turns 5 on Wednesday) is having a great time with it. He doesn't read yet but can figure out which button to click for Quit, Next, etc. I love how they have the retro courses. There's a SNES one that I remember playing with my brother ages ago!!

I know he's getting Boom Blox and Diego for his birthday. I hope BB isn't too hard for him, but he saw a commercial and begged his dad for it :confused3

So is there a thread or willing to share where we can ask for help with games? I am not the most skilled and my oldest is stuck on Kung Fu Panda. I am sure there will be an easy way to get past it but need help. does anyone know of forums where you can get help with games?:badpc:

1st place to look is http://www.gamefaqs.com

Only problem you may have is that Kung Fu Panda isn't a game that many of the people who use that website would take the time out to create a walkthrough for.

Obviously you can try asking if anyone on this thread has played or or has a child who has.

Lastly you can try the forums at nintendo.com

I'll see if I can track down some info for you.

We got Boom Blox in June when we finally got a hold of a Wii. Just submitted a review to Harley. Long story short, I don't thing there should be an issue here. In many games you place a target on a block and then flick the controller forward to try and knock the block down. Some games are competitive, while others are cooperative. Vintage gamers, such as myself, may experience some Wii elbow after a few days of playing.
