Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

We'll prob end up buying NCAA, but it may be a christmas gift. I like the all play features of the EA sports games because I can actually play and at least make the game somewhat competitive without knowing all the controls.

Anybody getting Topspin Tennis when it comes out next week? To me tennis is probably one of the things that best uses the wii motes so I can't wait for this one. I get a bit bored with the tennis game that came with the wii, I like the ability to choose different players and customize and all that stuff. Plus Topspin Tennis is so much more realistic.

I'm a big fan of past tennis games, and as you said Top Spin is one of the best out there. Also as you said the wii fits perfectly to this style of game. I prefert Mario Tennis as I like the super moves and the over the top action it provides, but for true simulation of the sport I'll bet top spin will nail it right down the line.

As the wife said lets wait and see what the reviews and testers are saying about it first.

Hmm, titled NCAA 09 All Play but still has advanced features. I like all the themed stuff but not sure how much my son will like it. He still plays his old Madden, NBA, and FIFA for the GC instead of the Wii versions! Maybe this will be the game to get him to switch?

Although not sure when we'll get this, as both kids really want the new GH Aerosmith and Rock Band when they come out and have been saving up for these, I doubt they'll have enough money for more than these 2 games.

Yeah to many games=hard decisions. I'll probably buy NCAA on the Wii just to show support for bringing it back. Besides I'll take the controls of snapping throwing and stiffarming over classic button tapping anyday....It was getting stale the old way (Then again when you have bought the same game with minor changes for 15+years in a row that tends to happen)

Any ideas of where to find a Wii Fit or when they will be out again????

My mom really wants this for the Wii and I'd love to find one for her :goodvibes

Funny you should ask! I just bought a Wii Fit this morning online from Circuit City. If they're sold out, I suggest you to to this website: http://wiialerts.com/

I set up an alert for a Wii and I found one in a couple of weeks! :yay: I set up a Wii alert on Monday for a Wii Fit and got the alert this morning that they were available at the Circuit City website. It's awesome! Also, I recommend that you have an alert sent to your cell phone as well. Both times I probably wouldn't have gotten it without it!

More games coming to use the Wii Fit Board:

Already an unqualified hit with gamers and those longing to lose a few pounds (not always two mutually exclusive groups), Wii Fit is attracting even more buzz thanks to upcoming titles that take advantage of the game's balance board.

Not surprisingly, many of these games are fitness oriented. Jillian Michaels, the trainer best known for reducing the morbidly obese to tears on "The Biggest Loser," will lend her likeness to a game hitting shelves this holiday. Ominously titled "Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009," the game drew some notice on PhillyBurbs.com.
Also picking up steam is a rumored Spider-Man game that will supposedly work with the balance board. Gamers can apparently lean to and fro to control the ol' Web-Head. Not exactly like being Spider-Man, but a step in the right direction for obsessive fans.

Finally, some gamers aren't waiting for publishers to come out with games that work with the Wii Fit's balance board. Instead, they're taking things into their own hands. UberGizmo reports that some folks are using the board to play World of Warcraft. Meanwhile, according to Wired, others have found a way to use the balance board with a custom game called Body Surf.

If only people could track down a copy of Wii Fit, they might be able to try these games, too.

I think the new Raving Rabbids will use it too. That's the one I'm most excited about.

No way! A Jillian Michaels game?! I'm all over that!

Thanks for the update!

hello eveyone. I have a coupon for $20 off wii game. I received it last week when I purchased Wii Fit. I need help deciding what game to purchase.

We have
Mario galaxy, Smash Bro, MArio Kart, Smooth moves, Carnival games, Ravin Rabbids.
I was hoping to get a game that utilizes the motion controllers.
I was looking at Star Wars: complete sage but, we have it for PS2.

Any suggestions would be great. DS=10 and DD=7, DH loves to play Wii Sport tennis

Thanks

Hi guys! So I just got a Wii today :cool1: I was wondering about the Gamecube games and the downloadable games.

I know that you can use a Gamecube controller or a "Classic controller" with the system. Are they basically interchangable or does the GC one only work with GC games, and the classic only with the downloaded games?

Thanks!!

It depends on the wii game. I know super smash brothers and mario kart you can either use the classic controller, GC controller or the wii controllers. It will say on the back of the game what controllers you can use. MOST about 98% of the wii games, you can only use wii controllers. As for the downloadable games off the wii shop channel, same concept. Certain games you can just use classic or game cube or both. It will say when you go to download. As for the games you can download off the wii ware channel, I believe its strictly wii controllers but that might change in the future. As for game cube games, you can ONLY use game cube controllers.

Announced yesterday is Guitar Hero World Tour.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/883/883120p1.html

Here is the first paragraph of the article.

Bringing Guitar Hero World Tour to Wii
Downloadable content. Online multiplayer. Music Studio. It's got it all.

June 20, 2008 - Last year, Activision debuted Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, developed by Vicarious Visions, for Wii. The title -- the only in the Guitar Hero franchise to remain in the top 10 best-selling games list of May, according to NPD data -- has quickly become one of the greatest third-party success stories on Wii, amassing domestic sales beyond two million units. If ever there was any doubt about whether or not Wii owners wanted the music series, GHIII obliterated those doubts. Now, Activision and Vicarious Visions are hard at work on the official sequel, an ambitious undertaking that strives to outdo Rock Band in every regard. It's called Guitar Hero World Tour, it comes not only with a guitar, but a microphone and drum set, too. And there's a music mixer program. And downloadable content. And online multiplayer. Guess what? The Wii version includes it all.

Lego Indiana Jones all the way! Especially if they really like Star Wars.

We're getting this for the 360, I just don't trust that the online support will be as good for the Wii.

But no matter what system, the game is going to be amazing! New drums and guitars, with completely new functions, plus, maybe the most exciting thing...a create a song mode that DH can't wait to mess around with.

If you want more info go to IGN and read about the 360 version, which I think has more info out about it.

The only system we have is Nintendo and right now we aren't planning to purchase another. Our dilemma is that the kids wanted Rock Band and now they see this and want that but we don't really want (need) both. Just reading the info the GH World Tour seems like it has more features than Rock Band so now we need to decide what to do and if we wait, Oct. seems far away.

By online support, do you mean downloadable stuff or playing online?

Anways, the one feature that makes my kids want this over RB is the music mixer/create a song mode. I'm sure the next version of RB will prob have a similar feature whenever that may be? So I'm wondering if it's better to go with the RB or GH version?:confused3

Was at Costco yesterday and they had RB for the Wii but I didn't purchase, so let's hope Oct is here quickly. Summer is a much better time for a new game like this to come out rather that Oct when we'll be busy with school, soccer and swim teams.:headache:

I got Rockband! :cool1: Got to Target about 5 minutes before opening and there was a line. I didn't think I'd get one, but most people were waiting for Wiis. There were only 3 RB boxes (that I saw) and we got the 3rd. Brought it home and hid it because DS had to leave yesterday for camp and didn't want him to freak out about leaving without playing:rotfl: So DD and I opened it up last and played. I stink at it--it's hard! She is pretty good at guitar.

We haven't got an extra guitar yet. Does the GH guitar work? Wouldn't it be better to buy GH and get the guitar that way than to buy just the guitar? Any recommendations? I am clearly NOT the gamer in the family.

I pre-ordered Rock Band. Now I'm trying to decide if we buy it and keep it, only to lose interest in a week. Buy it and sell it on eBay and hope to make money on it. Get our deposit back and make some other person very happy.

Any thoughts?

Both, really. The 360 has such great support, because their network is so good. I'm not sure yet about WiiWare and the lack of memory for the system. I'm sure it'll be totally fine and if I didn't have a 360, we wouldn't hesitate to get it for the Wii.

If I were you, I would wait for GH4 for sure. Who knows when the next RB will come out...I bet not until at least Christmas 09 and even that is a stretch. RB is continually being updated online, so there's no need for a new game until they decide to do something new with the guitar or drum kit.

But the feature they are most interested in is not on RB and who wants to drop $179 for each game and have all of the drum kits and guitars everywhere?

Every report I have seen is that the guitars are not compatible. These are two different companies that are mad at each other and they are doing everything they can to make sure things won't work together.

Hold off a bit and I'll watch and see if anyone gets it to work.

Why would you lose interest? It's a fantastic game. I'm still playing mine (we've had it for a while). It definitely has a major lasting appeal, much more so than other games.

Yes those were exactly my thoughts too. Ever since RB was announced my kids have been saving up their money for it, then the day before it's out we find out about GH World Tour (Oct release date), so needless to say they weren't thrilled about having to wait until Oct now for the same type game.

But like you said, I can't see having 2 sets of everything since they aren't compatible with each other.

I read where RB for the Wii is releasing a new disc with additional songs in a few months because the Wii doesn't have the hard drive space, don't know the cost of the disc.

An another topic, GH On Tour (released yesterday also) for the DS got a 9.0 rating over at IGN, anyone have any first hand experience with that. I read the review and IGN was surprised the game was as good as it is. It's definitely not the same as playing with the guitar but for something to take with you and is portable they really liked it.
