Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread

I have had several trainers tell me that Carbo Loading is best done 48 hours before the race, not the day before. It takes 48 hours for the Glycogen to be replenished by the meal. So the meal the night before is not doing as much benefit as eating well (and being well hydrated) starting at 3 days before and then 2 days before. Your meal the night before can be a 'lighter' meal.

It really works best done slowly and gradually during the week before the race. Adding more carbs and more water slowly allows your body to more easily absorb it. One reason why my pre-race meal is always sushi. :)

Morbid curiosity speaking here since I can't eat sushi (been told since I have a disorder which causes my body to load up on iron to avoid sushi) why sushi?

:drinking1 if we're lucky :lmao:

I know everyone likes to drink alcohol when running these big ones (or it seems most people of age do, I don't) but its actually a bad idea since it dehydrates a person. If the temperatures are anything like 2012s I would avoid alcohol that day in any form if they are so kind (but considering its Disney I seriously doubt they would serve that on course). My biggest inclination for the surprise at mile 20 is maybe a big character stop (like they did at Tink, see TR of Princess (which I need to update badly) for pic). But really my guess is as good as yours.

I am in for the Full Marathon...hopefully will be my first ever Marathon! I started training a month or so ago. Getting faster and not fatiguing either mentally or physically!

They say having a beer, just 1 not going crazy, is actually good for you after a marathon. It's the combo of carbs and something else, I forget. I've heard this a lot in the past and there was a short 1/2 pg article on it I just read. I forget if it was in a RW or Running Times email article.

I think I'd rather have some chocolate milk after the race instead of alcohol. But that's just me. I am not much of a drinker....

Just what I have heard and what I tend to do on race week. "Your mileage may vary." :)

I've heard that as well and my dietician, a marathoner, says the same thing. For my marathon a few weeks ago, she suggested I do protein the night before. I ate Mahi Mahi, some rice and some grilled veggies. I didn't feel 'pasta stuffed' on the day of the race like I sometimes feel. It worked for me.

My DH and I ordered pizza in our room the night before the Princess. Not very light or low fat, but I ran well, so I guess it was ok!:thumbsup2

So many would think I was nuts for running the Goofy... but the thing is I had planned to also run the TB 1/2 and get the C2C medal. But with Disney changing the schedule and making them a week apart I wonder if this is realistic?

Thoughts?

I run 3-4 times/week now and did before I hurt my back last September. But it does seem a bit out there on the doable chart.

I would just run the DL 1/2, but it always lines up with the start of school for the kids and would overall be very bad timing.

I ran my first Goofy, and ran a 1/2 the weekend after I got home this year. It wasn't horrible, but my race pace dropped about 1:30 minutes a mile, even though I was pushing hard. Just know you won't be at your peak since you'll be recovering from marathon weekend still.

Sashimi/sushi is light, easily digestible, and the pure protein provides lots of good fuel and energy the next day.

Disney visa holders -- check your emails!! I just received the email to register early with a discount. I'm all signed up for Goofy and ready to run. Now I've just gotta start training. :thumbsup2

My favorite after my long runs on Sunday morning is a Chocolate Peanut Butter smoothie! So good!! They handed out chocolate milk after the Nike Women's Race, and I loved it. It's big sponsor is Safeway so that's why I think they have it, but I wish more races would hand it out as well.

I doing it! I completely agree w/ you on the schedule change, wish they would keep Tink the same b/c not only is it the week after, it's MLK weekend so it'll be busy. But maybe that's their thinking and they're hoping more people will stay to Monday.

As for the races back to back, I'm doing an ice bath both Sat and Sun. The tricky thing is that I'm staying in WDW until Wednesday morning. I am definitely bring my stick and foam roller out w/ me for that weekend and Monday morning. I also have a Yoga for Athletes DVD that I'm going to bring to do Tuesday morning before the parks to really stretch out. Then a 3 or 4 miler Wednesday night just to get my legs under me again and then 5 or 6 Thursday or Friday depending on when I go down to DL.

Thank you for posting Tanya!! I didn't get an email yet but I logged into my Disney Visa account and the deal was there. I am registered for Goofy 2013!!!!! And I bought all the pins.

If they are holding the kid's races over 3 days, how do you know what day your child will be racing on? Or do you put your preference when you register?

You pick which day. My kids did Friday and we picked up their race packets that morning.

Amanda

For those who've done Goofy before I have a registration question. When I registered just now they only asked for my full anticipated finish time, nothing for the half. Is it always like that? How do they figure your half anticipated finish time?

Well I guess I'll be saving my pennies and running Goofy again. I told myself the deciding factor would be a price less than $300, which I didn't really think would happen with price increases. :woohoo:
