For those who've done Goofy before I have a registration question. When I registered just now they only asked for my full anticipated finish time, nothing for the half. Is it always like that? How do they figure your half anticipated finish time?

I haven't done Goofy before (first time in 2013! :thumbsup2) but I do know that in 2012 Goofy racers used the same bib/b-tag for both the half and the full. So my guess is that whatever corral you're in for the half will be the same for the full, which is why they don't need 2 anticipated finish times. I could be wrong though.:confused3

I registered for Goofy today! Wow...can't believe I did that. No marathon running in my history, but I am excited to give it a try.
Happy running!

Disney visa holders -- check your emails!! I just received the email to register early with a discount. I'm all signed up for Goofy and ready to run. Now I've just gotta start training. :thumbsup2

I got mine today, too. Now I actually have to be brave enough to hit the registration button!:scared1:

I just signed up for Goofy as well!!! Used the Active.com discount too (without needing a Disney VISA card). Woo Hoo! :thumbsup2

I ran my first Goofy, and ran a 1/2 the weekend after I got home this year. It wasn't horrible, but my race pace dropped about 1:30 minutes a mile, even though I was pushing hard. Just know you won't be at your peak since you'll be recovering from marathon weekend still.

I doing it! I completely agree w/ you on the schedule change, wish they would keep Tink the same b/c not only is it the week after, it's MLK weekend so it'll be busy. But maybe that's their thinking and they're hoping more people will stay to Monday.

As for the races back to back, I'm doing an ice bath both Sat and Sun. The tricky thing is that I'm staying in WDW until Wednesday morning. I am definitely bring my stick and foam roller out w/ me for that weekend and Monday morning. I also have a Yoga for Athletes DVD that I'm going to bring to do Tuesday morning before the parks to really stretch out. Then a 3 or 4 miler Wednesday night just to get my legs under me again and then 5 or 6 Thursday or Friday depending on when I go down to DL.

Thanks for the advice! I am still debating. My other option is to run the back to back 1/2 races and just get the C2C, but I think if I have to choose one at this point it would be the Goofy. I pan on registering for the Goofy and deciding on the Tink 1/2 sometime before the registration fills up.

I had not thought about MLK weekend as I have been living in Canada for 3 years now and it is not a holiday up here. Will also likely make the airfare and hotel more expensive...

So many would think I was nuts for running the Goofy... but the thing is I had planned to also run the TB 1/2 and get the C2C medal. But with Disney changing the schedule and making them a week apart I wonder if this is realistic?

This is what I had planned on doing...but now I'm not so sure. My hesitation has nothing to do with my ability to actually finish all 3 races; I'm not being egocentric, my plan was to go much slower than usual and mostly walking Tink. My hesitation is work related, there's a very good (1,000%) chance that I won't be at my current job next January, but since I haven't started looking yet I'm not sure when I'll start and/or if I would be able to take that much time off.

I'm hoping that it will all work out, but with my luck, it'll work out and then Tink will be sold out. Although this IS a good motivator to actually get my resume updated and out there!

Does anyone know anything about the Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend Commemorative Necklace that is available to purchase with registration? Is it cute or cheesy? Pics?

Officially registered to go Goofy in 2013! :woohoo:

Now my next task is to beat my 10-miler PR on April 28 and/or my half marathon PR on May 20 so I can send an updated proof of time to Disney. Fingers crossed! :goodvibes

I put up a thread on the main WISH board, and was pointed in this direction.

I'm considering running Goofy this year, but truth be told I'm scared as anything to pull the trigger because aside from the whole 39.3 aspect, I don't really know what's in store. I'd really love to have some Goofy alums offer the pros/cons of the training, running the event, and recovery to help me make a more informed decision than "I want to do it" (which under most circumstances is good enough for me).

I've run a handful of full and half marathons, one ultra relay, and tons of 5ks and 10ks. In the past few years, I've stuck to the half and lower distances since I've put on a bit of weight, so I'm a total turtle these days. I'm hoping that with an actual goal of something like Goofy, I'll be more likely to keep on my training-- since that is something I struggle with when work gets busy.

At this point, my biggest fears are waking up so early both days and being well-rested and hydrated enough for the back-to-back, and the potential for being too slow to reasonably finish. These days I'm running around an 11 mm for 5k/10k, and averaging 14mm on my half time. Again, I haven't been taking my training too seriously. A few years ago, my marathon pace was around an 8:30/9mm, and I'd REALLY like to get back to that.

I know it sounds silly, but at this point, I know I have the spare time to commit to training-- but I'm a little frightened. Can anyone put my mind to ease and offer some advice?

I can’t offer any Goofy advice, but I would ask yourself why you want to do it. Is it important to you to say you ran 39.3 miles in 48 hours? Do you really want the third medal? Stuff like that. If your answers aren’t good enough for yourself, why put yourself through the training? You might be better off going for a PR in the half or full distance.

Goofy is so much fun! I ran goofy this year, and plan to next year, not to PR, but to have as much fun as I can. Having done both distances before, I knew there would be twinges of jealousy for me if I didn't run both races, I'd feel like I was missing out on something. The biggest con to me for Goofy is the price. If you can get past the $300+ price tag, the early mornings back to back aren't so bad. Recovery wasn't too bad for me either. I didn't hydrate properly for the marathon, so I was miserable and sick on Sunday, but after re hydrating and getting a good nights sleep, I was ready to conquer the parks for the next week. The most nerve wracking thing for me going into Goofy was the unknown about how I would feel. I'd never done anything like Goofy before, so I wasn't sure how I'd feel. I just took it super easy all weekend, enjoying the sights of Disney while I ran!
