Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

Hey all, I am Bib # 42768 for the 1/2 which I believe puts me in Corral B. I have a few questions, are there porta-potties in the actual corrals? I am a go to the bathroom at the last minute kind of person and am trying to plan.

No. The porta-potties are generally behind or next to the corrals.

Also what is everyone wearing? I know it's kind of dependent on the weather but I don't like running with sleeves. Anyone else wearing a tank top?

I'm trying to remember but I don't think there are potties in the corrals but I do recall some nearby.

I will wear a tank if it is above 50 at the start. I am hoping for cool weather so my Donald costume can be more authentic;).

No potties there...I remember cuz guy ran over to the grass to do business....then many guys followed him shortly thereafter.

Anyone have their corrals adjusted at the Expo? What do they require? Do I have to print out something or do they look it up for you? Do you do that in the area where you pick up the bibs or the main expo area?

Thanks!

I do not remember potties nearer the start than corral D... I may be mistaken and there may have been some for evry or every other set of corrals. Note that even if there are, there are only a handful per corral. Many will hop the right fence and head over to the canals... or the alternative phenomena is that immediately after the start we pass a wooded area course right. It can feel disorienting as a large percentage of folks head over there.

Current weather forecasts will have be in a singlet for both mornings. If the weather gets closer to 45F, I may wear a short sleeved shirt for the half.

Unless things change, the runners relations desk is in the HP Pavilion (where we get the bibs).

With regard to adjustments, printing the results with the race name, distance and then your results is what is required. I ahve heard of folks pulling the results up from the smart phones... but i think I would have the paper copy just to be safe.

I would also recommend a paper copy as they compare your time against a chart on a computer and a highlighted line on a piece of paper is easier to see. I have done this and have brought a friend to do it too. As my 6 year old would say; it is easy peesy lemon squeesy. Lol

I was in D and don't remember any PoP's in D. I do remember running off to the side of the road. Watch the bushes, they have sharp edges. Not cool on a bare hiney!!!! LOL

Ran last year's half in a tank top, will probably do the same this years full. I've been doing my training in long sleeves just in case it starts off super chilly, but (With the exception of this morning), it's been a warm last few weeks.

I've also used the printers there for the waivers to print out previous times so if you don't remember to bring it, you can print there.

Well, my last long run topped out at 18. I just couldn't make the full 20. Looking back, I suspect it was more mental than physical.. but I didn't finish all the same. Luckily my knee felt good. (Foam rolling has been my friend!:thumbsup2) I really like to give it another try on Wednesday, but I know that it's just time to slow down and trust that Disney magic pixiedust:will get me to the finish line.

All of you guys have been so inspirational and I can't wait to run with you in just 3 weeks time. Stay safe and healthy!

Oh, and regarding the weather.. I vote for a little warmer than too cold. Blue legs will not look cute under my Minnie running skirt. :rotfl2:

I see the race instructions are up. What is the "Ice Tent"? I must admit, I usually don't pay attention to much in the finish area other than food and the exit!

Not in, near. Could be nearer the entrance to E or in the very back of that side

Saw that yesterday and was not sure. I was making a mental note to look for it post race. I am wondering if it is a tent for those minor joint issues where one can get a baggie of ice wrapped around a knee. Though I would have expected that at the med tent. But the med tent is hard to see when the medals are gleaming in front of you. Maybe it is to prevent folks from swimming upstream back to the med tent.

I too am confused.

I would hesitate to try a 20 this close to an 18... Enjoy your taper. Your knee will

What do folks think about the advice that I got to do NOTHING for two weeks prior to Goofy? It comes from a very good runner friend who has competed a lot, and most recently ran a 100 miler trail run. He is advocating that I not run at all. The thought is appealing because I do always have some inflammation somewhere after running and it would be nice to heal it nearly completely, but I dunno!

Heading out shortly for 18 miles. My last long run! I would have liked to get up over 20 miles but it didn't happen when I got seriously sidelined in September and everything got set back a few weeks. It is snowy, blowy and below freezing. yahoo......

think how warm FL will be as you run.

I say, maybe. If you have an injury then the time would allow for some healing. The negative is that you will lose some aerobic capacity with two weeks off. It is the upper end aerobic so not a huge loss. I find tapering maddening so I personally NEED a few runs. As a compromise, take the next week completely off then hop back onto your training schedule the middle of the week and grab the 10k the last weekend.

Thanks Coach! I appreciate the advice. I think your plan is what I will do.

Ran out of time to run due to a client issue so am delaying my long run 'til Monday when it is projected to be a bit warmer and we have the whole day open. We need to leave early this afternoon for a big family Christmas do, so just going out for 10k in a few minutes. Relieved to not have the stress of completing the big distance and running off to a family thing right afterwards.

Hope everyone is happy, healthy and spending time with loved ones.

Can someone add me to the list at the beginning of the thread please? I'm running the full bib #13685 in corral H TIA :)
