Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

Oh and on our walk to school this morning I found out all the sidewalks are ice. Sigh. Unless it melts today or tomorrow morning (doubtful when the high is in the low 20s) I am going to have to move my 20 miler. Now to decide to move it to my tamalada (tamal making) day or Christmas Eve day. Either day won't be convenient but don't want to risk a fall.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. I am going to hit the TM for today's run because falling is just not something I want to risk. Hopefully, the path will be dry/clear on Sunday for my 20-miler. I cannot imagine myself running 20 miles on the TM at the gym.

Rick,

I have been giving serious thought to doing my 20 miler at the gym! Mostly because I'm looking for an easy bail depending on how I feel. At least I know the temp is constant, no wind, shorts and a T-shirt, an even pace, a soft surface and if I time it right...football!

(Let the lemonade making begin!)

AND you my well get a preview of Orlando weather :)

Though, the latest iteration of lack-a-accuweather would mean that you may need to be under a fire sprinkler..... Something about rain both Saturday and Sunday.

Anyone have a Grand Villa Ressie they want to trade for a larger OKW Grand Villa? We did not go all the way back to 2002 in the previous post and my stay at OKW... The only marathon with rain. Yes, any negative weather seems to relate to me staying somewhere other than at the Epcot DVC resorts.

That is true. Running in the gym could mimic Orlando conditions. But I am praying for 40-60s and not 70s. :)

Maura, I just don't know if I could keep myself motivated to run 20 miles on the TM. I would be so bored! I guess I could bring my iPad and have 2 action movies lined up. LOL

I got my 20 miler in this morning. Storm was supposed to start last night, but it rained all night and then was clear (well, a little snow and lots of wind) this morning, so I took a chance. Got it in, felt great, and feel ready for Mickey!

I was surprised since I ran Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and also stood and baked for 3 hours on both Wednesday and Thursday nights. But I felt great!

I hope everyone's runs go well and the weather doesn't impact you too much!

Kill Bill works well for me when running at the gym. The music is awesome!!

I think I am moving my 20 miler from Sat morning to Sun morning. Temps look a little better and winds will have diminished somewhat. I REALLY don't want a repeat of the indoor 18 miler with over 200 laps on the rec ctr track :faint:
so am hoping by Sunday it will be decent outside. :wizard:

Had my PT appt yesterday and my therapist doesn't see any issues with completing the full. She TOTALLY gets it because not only is a she a terrific runner (won one of our half marathons with over 8,000 entrants) but she is a member of the Endurance Athlete Team at OSU Sports Medicine. I am definitely in the right place!

Look out Mickey here I come! (okay - relatively slowly, but I will meet you at the finish :;))

Great news... Good to get things check out.

Does you indoor track change direction on the hour? If not, it can be a real bummer on the outer leg as it continually picks up the stress on the corner. think nascar and the right side tires.

I have a followup on the knee for the first week of January. The doc and I discussed a follow up cortisone injection if needed and over the last couple weeks it has started to need it. I am sure he will want to do a full diagnostic workup this time - i.e. MRI. Hopefully a lowering of time on run in the last half of Jan will resolve some of the issue and allow the rehab work I am doing time to build up the inner knee.

The great thing is there's more than one movie!! LOL

Ran with Soul Surfer the other day. Usually default to football or other old time favorite. Afternoon runs are to Judge Judy..... can't find anything better. Hate running to the news

Disney Marathon merchandise (shirts, etc.)- does Disney discount the run merchandise after the race as they try to get rid of whatever is left?

Nike would progressively discount stuff from the Honolulu Marathon when I ran it years ago. Thanks.

Just finished my last 20 miler on the TM. Stared at the white wall in front of me for the first 12 miles then watched a video for the remainder. Got it in in 2:44 but don't know how I am going to run the final 6 on race day. My knees are killing me once I stopped.

Hope everyone's last long runs go well this weekend. I feel for those of you that have to run in the cold and the snow.

No, not until it unceremoniously heads to the local outlet shop in Orlando a few weeks to months after the race

The final race instructions were just posted. I highly encourage all runners to review these at least once. You will also receive at packet pickup. I thought the start line viewing area would disappear with the slight movement north of the start line...

The other thing I expected to happen is that the marathon wave times now match - the surprise is that the waves are on 7 minute intervals.

It also looks like the staging area now takes over part of the Explore Lot next to the Wonder Lot where it currently resides.

Thank you for letting us know. I sent an email asking about them yesterday because I was starting to get very nervous.

Thanks, Coach! Really appreciate the heads up, especially as I have been totally clueless about how the kids' races will work. :) Two sets of instructions to beef up on now. :):coffee:

I want to clean up a cut and paste section that is CONFUSING if you read it and do not understand the January Event

host resorts
Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend transportation has been arranged for Guests staying at Walt Disney World® Resort hotels including Shades of Green® and Walt Disney World® Swan and Dolphin Resort. Buses will be indicated by runDisney signs placed in the front windows. Please note, transportation is only provided to and from the host resorts. If you are staying at a host resort, please check with your front desk for a pick-up location. Because parking is extremely limited at event venues, Guests staying at host resorts are strongly encouraged to use provided transportation to all Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend events (excluding The Cool Down Party at Downtown Disney®). Guests who do not stay at a host resort will need to provide their own transportation to weekend events.

This section was written for the other race weekends where only a few of the WDW resorts are 'host resorts' In the case of the Marathon weekend, ALL RESORTS are covered by marathon transportation. I understand cutting and pasting language but in this case, they should have stuck with the original language. It IS good to see the SoG will be included in the bas transportation this year.

ALSO NOTE - the monorail does NOT run for the 5k. Please head to the convention center at the GF and CR for 5K transportation. I have not seen this question asked this year, but the instructions reminded me.

For some reason Disney placed this NEW paragraph in the final instructions.
For the safety of our Guests, we ask that you use provided transportation and do not opt to run or walk to Epcot ®. For those Guests staying in the Epcot ® Resort Area, International Gateway is not available for entry into Epcot® prior to 9:00 a.m. Guests must utilize event transportation located at the front of their resort. Participants must board buses and monorails no later than 4:00 a.m. in order to make it to their corrals on time. You must be in your corral at the start line by 5:00 a.m. or you will not be allowed to start. Please note, it takes 20 minutes to walk from the Family Reunion area (Epcot® Wonder Lot) to the start line

I fully understand the I Gate warning as I usually see a runner push off and head out the back door of the Epcot resort when I stay there. I read on occasion of a runner who nearly missed (or once missed) the start because they just thought the gate would be open. This was especially true when there were two starts and the left hand course would run right by the IGate.

The reason I post the paragraph is that the walker warning, while not saying DO NOT walk to the start, leads me to believe that the Mouse is looking. They may well look to curtail walkers to the race at some point in time. I think a wise person who is thinking of walking to the start would scope out the bridge to the start corrals to see if folks are being allowed to pass prior to the last bus marathon bus runs. Again, I personally think that they are only asking to not walk at this time, but it may be a firmer warning than the language suggests.

ADDED - If you read this and decide to call runDisney to seek clarification, expect a no you cannot walk answer in support of the new paragraph.

Oh, Depending on where are building is located, I will try to get out and look with enough time to still have an alternative on Saturday. I will try to report to this thread for the full runners.
