Hi Kim, I hope the Honolulu Marathon went well for you and you'll come here and tell us all about it! I saw that they are starting the 1st annual Honolulu half marathon in March, it would be so tempting to do that race someday too!
Wow, I saw the FB page and couldn't believe some people's experiences. I hope they fix the problems for next year, it looked like a fun race. I'm not surprised that in addition to all the problems there were so many first timers that seemed very underprepared.
The most important email is the next one! I'm sure we'll all be posting when we receive the waiver/bib # email so if you don't get it you know to contact them.
I think that race has changed the way many of us look at water stations, that's for sure!
There are many half marathon first timers here, including myself! I know I've gotten a lot of great advice and inspiration from the people on these boards.
I don't have much treadmill advice, I've done 7 runs on the treadmill so far in the last couple of months and hated every one of them! As for movies, I'd say nothing that requires you to hear a lot of dialogue, since its difficult to hear over the noise of you and the TM! I saw that you went to Aulani for you honeymoon in your siggie, how was it? I'd love to visit someday.
As for gloves, I get my cheap ones from Target, they have 2 packs for $1. I even got a two pack on clearance last January for 75 cents. I've found they are very handy and if you need to dump them, its no big deal.
I hope everyone has great runs this weekend, I'm doing my first 10K on Saturday. Have a great day, Tinks!
OMG! I ran the Vegas rock and Roll Half Marathon on Sunday and it was a disaster. They ran out of swag bags, shirts and medals but the worst was they ran out of water and cytomax and were taking down the tables way before the race ended.
They didn't let us go in waves so there was NO room. I finished in 3:11 and my usual 1/2 time is 2:45. There was just no room to go any where.
Take a look at their facebook page or just google RNR Vegas problems and you will see what I mean.
After the race we were all funneled into Mandalay Bay and 1,000 of people were stuck in the hallways for hours. People were passing out left and right.
The worst part was that the water they did have must have been contaminated (they were filling trash cans from fire hydrants and then dipping the cups in the trrash can with their bare hands) because 1,000 of people were sick after the race.
I ran RnR Vegas on Sunday as well. I didn't have the same experience as what others are posting on Facebook (I feel so bad for them) and I think it is because I didn't need to go in to Mandalay Bay after the race. I also didn't take any water/Cytomax from the stations because I had my own water. I definitely think things could have been a bit more organized. When we came up on the first aid station and they were out of water, I thought that to be completely unacceptable. Although I didn't need the water, others did. All in all, I had a good race though. It was totally packed and never thinned out. I think this race attracted everyone from walkers to runners to in-between. I also think it attracted people who thought they could "party" while they walked the race route. I saw multiple people drinking alcohol and celebrating that. 13.1 miles is pretty serious and to be drinking bottles of beer at mile 1...that's just not smart IMO!
I'm excited for Tink but will definitely purchase some warmer clothing to run in. I nearly froze at the end of the Vegas race. Thankfully my DH was there to throw his sweatshirt on me and quickly usher me back to our room at Luxor.
To the person asking about what to wear for cooler weather, I find that I need gloves. I start with the gloves, at some point take them off, but then I find I need them again.

I wonder if I typo'ed my email address when I registered for this race because I haven't gotten any emailsI must have.
I haven't gotten an e:mail yet either.![]()

re: rnr vegas - my dad ran rnr miami this weekend and he said it was very organized. he's done so many races over so many years, so i hold his opinion in high regard. i also found it interesting that rnr posted on facebook right before the race that "miami was a non-hydrant market" and they will be using bottled water.
dare i say rnr learned from some of it's mistakes?

I'm so happy I found these boards. I'll be running in my first Half at the Tinker Bell race and am soooo excited. I can't believe it's almost here.
I"m coming off a new injury and just now trying to back on track with training. There's so much to do still. I haven't even decided on a costume.
I've enjoyed reading the posts here. I'm sure I'll continue to spend time here.![]()

Looking forward to my 10 mile run this weekend... not!its been so cold that we have to do them on treadmills. Does anyone have a good idea for a movie we could watch that would make the two hours fly by? All I want for xmas is these last few long prep runs to go quickly!
