Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

I need some ideas for my race outfit!! I don't want it to hinder my running, but was trying to think of doing something clever.. so I decided to bring my situation to the biggest Disney fans out there! Any ideas? What is everybody else doing? I am a male, by the way.:wizard:

Good morning Tinker Bell runners! :tink:

One month from today we will be racing! :yay: I keep obsessively checking the RunDisney site in case they post the waivers.

Summer, I think your outfit sounds cute. :goodvibes I see all those race pics in your signature and I'm sure this one will be as successful as the rest! :thumbsup2

Let us know how you use the WISH logo. An iron-on sounds like something other WIShers might be interested in. There are rules about the use but as long as it is just for WISHers, I think it is fine. That is why they used the feather on the sparkle skirt I believe.

You guys that are wearing skirts ------:worship: Wow !!! The mornings in CA have been SO COLD I can't even imagine wearing a skirt. (I always do for the DL 1/2 but we are usually running in hot weather)

I do have some black capris if it is really cold but I'm hoping for the skirt because I was so hot last year at the Princess -- I think that was one of the things that caused me to be swept. Hopefully the temperature will be just right for our race!

It's not my first race to run by myself and I'm not too nervous about that. I actually *like* being alone sometimes - I'm around people all day every day!! :)

I am, however, always excited to meet new people. :)

It won't be long now! :flower3:

Well, characters from Peter Pan are obvious choices but I imagine there will be lots of those. The prince costumes tend to be rather elaborate and maybe not too comfortable to run in. How about an original Mousekateer? Put a name on your shirt and get some ears and you are ready to go. Hopefully some other more creative people will have some ideas, too.

There were a lot of frog princes for the Princess Half in 2011. I couldn't see myself doing a half in that, so I went the boring route an just donned a pair of Mickey ears.

Have been thinking a lot about this race though. Ranged from Pan himself (although with the holidays my waste line looks a little bit more like Mr. Smee than Peter Pan). Thought about Michael or John (Wendy's brothers) but I am not sure how many people would get the correlation. And 13.1 miles in an ankle length night shirt and top hat....or jammies carrying a large teddy bear...maybe not. There are the Lost Boys, but once again, dressing in raggedy dirty laden clothes with mud on your face, people might not grasp it.

There is Terrance, the boy tinker fairy. But Disney is slowly phasing him into obscurity.:sad1::guilty::sad1:

And even though I may only ever see two dozen of the racers again, I don't know that I have the gumption to don a tu-tu and pixie dust.

We'll see. :scratchin :scratchin :scratchin :scratchin

Good luck on your frosty run today, Melinda! :cheer2:

I drive by your ski hill every year on my way to Lake Okoboji, Iowa for vacation. I live in Idaho and people understandably wonder why we go to Iowa but my husband's family has a place that's been in the family since 1893. :goodvibes

Speaking of outfits here are a few pictures of mine.

Here are some pics of my outfit:

The sparkly WISH feather -- it's on the bottom left hand side of the skirt when you are wearing it.

The whole outfit:

A little better shot of the skirt:

It is a Sparkleskirt. Here is a link to the page. http://www.sparkleskirts.com/sparkletech/
It's the solid black SparkleTech skirt.

There is a large zippered pocket in the front that will hold my iPhone, Carmex and probably my Clif Bloks. There are also two large leg pockets. I figure one leg pocket can be for the paper towel supply and the other could be a couple of gels and/or a small pack of Biofreeze. That just leaves figuring out the water situation. Also, I don't know if I will do the Bondi-band or a visor. I kind of need the sun block of the visor but I also have to have two pairs of glasses, my sunglasses and my regular glasses. :3dglasses

I'm sure there will be lots of cute costumes to see as we run around. :tink:

Thank you very much Lisa! It was cold... 18 degrees when I was out (it didn't really warm up at all like it was supposed to). It didn't feel that cold though. There was no wind, thank God. My friend that I run with a lot of the time didn't feel well,so we turned it into a walk instead of a run. Sometimes those things happen. She is usually the one who is dragging me along (she is quite a bit faster than me). When you're sick, you're sick, though. And then I had a 3:00 workout with my trainer and she had to cancel due to a migraine, and in almost a year of working out with her, this is the first time she has had to cancel. I guess it just wasn't in the cards for me to get a good workout in yesterday. We did end up walking 2.76 hilly miles, though. That counts for something. Today I'm working out with my trainer, and hopefully a run. Tomorrow I am running with my trainer as well.

Lisa, I must say I LOVE your costume! Its amazing! What is the story of the WISH feather? I love it! Did you get that custom done by SparkleSkirts? It is darling!!

Congrats to everyone on your runs/workouts/eating right/getting excited and prepared for the big day! Every day I tell myself that this is the longest point I have until the race and any good changes I have to make to my body--today's the day. The closer I get to race day the less chance I have to make those last miniute tweaks.

Have a great day everyone!

If any of you use the app RunKeeper feel free to add me to your street team. My user name on RunKeeper is the same as here... MelindaRuns. If you need my email address it's mvmguitar@aol.com. Hope to add some WISH'ers to my street team!

Lisa, your outfit looks really cute! I'm really slacking on mine for this race! I think I may just skip the skirt altogether this time because I haven't put much thought into what color I would want. (but typing this post is making me sad about that decision so I'm betting I have one ordered by the end of the day :lmao:) I did buy a lime green running shirt from Target that I plan to add some sort of Tinkerbell-themed iron-on to. And while I was looking at the pics for your outfit, I was reminded that the WISH shirts are lime green too so I may have a little WISH logo made up to iron onto the sleeve or something so I can be identified as a WISH-er! I got a new pair of running shoes from Santa, so I'm going to add lime green laces to those to keep with the green theme I have going. I was going to have an iron-on made for a bondi band again too, but I just haven't had the time to put any thought to it...so I'm thinking I'll just buy the one they always have pre-made for the race at the expo and wear that one.

Also, today I ordered a pair of CEP brand compression calf sleeves. (in lime green!) I've been wanting to try compression sleeves on my calves for a while so I decided to go ahead and check them out. Does anyone have a pair of these in this brand that has any opinions about them?

Hi Summer! Did you order that skirt? I love the idea of the WISH themed iron on. Do they sell any WISH items at the expo? Where do you get the WISH bondi band? Are there bondi bands with the race logo at the expo?

Good luck with the calf compression sleeves. I have used Zen-Sahs and really liked them. They were very comfortable. I used to get shin splints and in a race they gave me peace of mind that I wouldn't get them (and I didn't). For me I just think I had to run more to get used to a certain amount of activity, but the sleeves really made me feel like they were doing something. I don't (knock on wood) get shin splints any more. Maybe it was the sleeves. Plus, I think they add some flair to a costume type running outfit, when you're trying to stick with a color theme.

Reading all these posts is getting me MORE excited.

I finalized my costume last night - and didnt' have to buy anything  I'm going as Minnie. I wanted to go as Alice in Wonderland (since my name is Alice) but I found her costume a bit plain :rolleyes1

I already had a red running skirt that I'm going to put white dot stickers and a black tech tee. I'll have to decide which Minnie ears to wear. I SO wanted to get yellow shoes, but don't have time to break them in. Maybe I'll get some yellow laces instead.

For those running alone, don't feel bad. I'll be alone - it's my first Disney race and I figure I'll be busy running, taking pics and soaking in the environment to notice that I'm by myself :)

That sounds like a really cute costume!

WISH items will not be sold at the Expo, as they are specific to the DIS WISH team and there is no both space paid for by the WISH group to sell merchandise.

As for the other questions, Summer will have to field the answers, she is far craftier (and stylish) than I.:goodvibes

Anyone use CW-X Pro Tights (http://www.amazon.com/CW-X-Womens-Pro-Running-Tights/dp/B001MS8BA0/ref=pd_sbs_a_1) or something similar? I'm looking at them for this race for both weather purposes as well as the compression function. Looking for feedback.

Thanks!

I have a pair of exactly those, but they are the insulated ones for winter running. They are black with the blue stitching. Because of the blue, I call them my "blueberry muffintop pants". lol. They provide so much compression, and not just in the legs, that on me, everything just spills over the top. lol. It's not a good look (for me) but I think thinner people look great in them. Mine are just very, very tight. I love the compression on my legs, but on my waist, not so much. I know people swear by these, and I do love mine, but I will love them more when I'm closer to my WISH goal. :)

Ok, so far for my costume I have (from eBay) a light up Tink costume that consists of a dress, wings, tiara, and wand (please note that I will NOT look like that model in this..) :lmao: :

A tink wig (from eBay):

tinkwig.jpg

A green tank top from eBay:

tinkshirt.jpg

A tink mask from eBay (just for fun and pictures, not to run in):

tinkmask.jpg

And to round it all out, a pair of my current favorite running shoes (Nike Free Run 2's) customized at Nike ID in Tink green (or very close). This was one purchase I had to justify (which wasn't that hard, lol) because normally I wouldn't buy a new pair of running shoes right now. However, even though they are for a costume, I will run in them until they are worn out.

What I would still like to find: green running tights (because I have to wear something under the dress!! :lmao:). I have black ones, but green ones would be super cool. Capri or long length.. I wonder if full length tights will be too hot?

Also, I'm looking for another top to wear under the dress.... in Tink green. Anyone know where I can find something like this? Do you think it will be too hot for a long sleeve running top/should I go with a short sleeve?

:)

I plan on wearing my whole costume in the 5K and seeing how that goes, and have a backup outfit of tried and true running clothes, just in case this isn't going to work for the half.

I didn't order the skirt yesterday but I am going to this week, I've decided. I'm wearing a green top so I don't think the green Team Sparkle skirt is going to go with it...I'm working on a white/silver Tinkerbell design for the green shirt, so I think I'm going to go with the "gunmetal" silver Team Sparkle skirt...then my normal black shorts or capris underneath, depending on the temps....lime green laces on the shoes and maybe the lime green calf sleeves if I decide that I like them. Oh and for the bondi band, I just meant the official race bondi band that they normally sell at the expo in the "official merchandise" area...not a WISH bondi band. I've only seen WISH items available for sale on different race threads on these board. Hopefully the race bondi band will be cute...if not, I'm sure I can find one to go with my outfit at the Bondi Band booth at the expo!

My calf sleeves should be delivered sometime this afternoon so I think I'm going to try them out this evening on my 5 mile run. Hope I like them!

love that wig...that is too cute! I found a lime green running shirt (the Champion C9 brand) at Target that I am wearing...it's short sleeved...it might be an option to wear under your dress. Your whole costume looks great...and I really really love the shoes! The shoes I run in never come in crazy colors and I sooooo want a pair! I have to spruce them up with bright laces and bright socks.

I agree w/ the Peter Pan idea. You can get a green running shirt and running hat and if you find one, you can stick a red feather in the hat. I do know that they sell Pan hats at DL and the Disney Store in DTD if you're not going in the park. Another easy one is Mr. Smee. That's what I'm doing for the 5k. I got blue pants, a blue stripped shirt and a red beanie. I'll try and post pics this weekend.

Melinda~ I love your costume! The wig is so cute.

Got in 7 this morning and have 14 this weekend. Trying to decide which day to run it~ leaning towards Saturday b/c I think it would be safer if people are still out driving at 5am on Sunday.

And can I tell you how much I enjoy that the countdown on the race site is less than a month!! I got the 1st flight on Friday, so I get in around 8 on Friday.

I started the thread for bib #'s too. I was hoping it would they would be released today b/c it's 1 month out and that's when they usually release it, but maybe b/c of the holiday and next weekend they won't do it until later. But it's up anyways! If you guys want, I can do hotels too? Let me know. Here's the thread:

One month from today is my arrival day, when is everyone else arriving?

I am coming in Thur. the 26th, probably mid day, still have to book my flight :rolleyes1

I can't wait to hear how you like them. I ordered some Zensah compression sleeves on Christmas Eve and they will hopefully be here before my 13 miles this weekend.

You guys that are wearing skirts ------:worship: Wow !!! The mornings in CA have been SO COLD I can't even imagine wearing a skirt. (I always do for the DL 1/2 but we are usually running in hot weather)

I'm stressing about the cold mornings ---I can't get moving when it's that cold. I am still praying that we will not have any rain.

I have been keeping an eye on the weather in Anaheim and it has been pretty warm (70's up to the 80's) I am planning on wearing a skirt, but over my capris. I wear capris year round so I think I will be fine.

I have had my costume planned out pretty much ever since I signed up (June or July I think) and yet I have not even started on it. :sad2: I really need to get a move on because I know that petti skirt is going to take me quite awhile to sew.

I was not going to really wear a costume but DH bought me light up Tinker Bell wings at DL --they are great BUT-----How in the world am I going to try and run with them here at home to try them out?? I can't imagine wearing them during a run at the park or the track. :rotfl: What to do??? I know I would really get some strange looks !! I swear someone would probably call the police about some crazy women running wearing wings. :lmao:
I have a Tink green Nike shirt that I was going to run in along with my grey & green trim capris pants.

Just 30 days away ....I can't wait for the race and to get back down to DL. We're driving down on Thurs. :cool1:

Do you have a dreadmill? I know that is what a lot of people use for their Princess test runs, me? I just live dangerously and try it on race day :P I will probably do a test run with my petti skirt but I am not sure yet. I would hate to ditch it since I am going to put a lot of time into it.
